Weekday morning debate and potential fights
chris_gaskin12311 April 2005
As I write this review, Trisha Gooddard has just defected to Five to do a similar show there and ITV are still showing repeats of this, but not for much longer.

Trisha Goddard was the host and a different subject was debated each morning. A lot of these subjects were on peoples' relationships and affairs and the guests at the front of the studio often lost their temper and fights almost started.

How this can be classed as entertainment I will never know. Who wants to see people shouting at each other? Trisha certainly had some scum on as guests.

I never really saw this properly but I wasn't missing much.

Trisha herself was the only reason to watch as she is rather friendly and cheerful. Just a pity about some of her scumbag guests, who seemed to like to try and fight. Depite all this, Trisha was a popular show.

Know-it-all lectures morons.

Go to the poorest areas of Britain, ask the locals who the idiot family are, get them on telly to be lectured by a sanctimonious 'been there, done it' woman and you've got Trisha. The hostess with the mostess' speciality is to blame booze for everything. I swear I saw one show where the guy said that he did not drink but still got the 'cut out the liquor' lecture.Mildly entertaining, but absolute trash. If it wasn't on, perhaps we could use that hour for a property makeover show, a show detailing how to become an antiques dealer or a show about moving to a different country. Think of the possibilities! (If you're not British, you may not know that property, antique and relocation shows already take up the other 23 hours of the day)

Hmm?? Passable entertainment

I like Trisha Goddard. She's beautiful, talented and has a wealth of common sense which she never passes on in a high-handed manner. So how come I'm not full of praise for the show? It's the guests Trisha!!!! I know there are around 59,000,000 of us in this crowded island but I never realised there were so many ugly, retarded, attention-CRAVING, drug-taking, 'pierced', boring, vacuous, tedious, moronic losers around. The show has the potential to be good, it just needs more attractive guests - and some gratuitous violence ala Springer. Chuck in a few rubber chairs and a couple of 350lb security guys and away you go. It's a shame really because Trisha herself is such a good presenter. She never hogs the camera like others in he genre and always allows the guests to be the stars of the show - and that's where the problems begin. I dunno what to suggest, except perhaps the execution-on-air of the most boring guest.

A British Ricki Lake

Trisha has been on ITV now for 4 years and I still find her show fresh and entertaining. The Trisha Show is a mixture of topics simular to those found on Ricki Lake and Sally Jessy Raphael. Trisha is the best of the British talk show hosts.

Trisha uses her own life experiences to help her guests on the show and is always very sympathetic to her guests. The show is filmed in the same studio as Jerry Springer UK.

Long may the Trisha Show continue.

Got a Problem?

Until I saw this show I thought the Vicky Pollard character from "Little Britain" was exaggerated. Little did I realize how close to reality it was. When you see a few episodes of "Trisha" you get the impression that every teenager in Britain is a loutish, binge-drinking, drug-addicted gang leader with an attitude. (I'm sure it can't be like that in real life. It can't be!) For some reason other people's problems tend to attract audiences. Maybe it makes us feel better about ourselves when we see someone worse off. On "Trisha" an attempt is made to talk about whatever problem the guest has (it usually involves alcohol) and hopefully reach a resolution. There are the options of boot camp or a makeover.

Trisha Goddard is a good presenter with a warm, friendly personality. When she lived in Australia she was in the children's programme "Play School". She understands kids. In the past she has had her own demons to battle, so she speaks from experience when trying to help the guests. Members of the audience are also invited to give their opinion and offer helpful advice to the guests. It's usually along the lines of "Sort your life out, give up the drink, and get a job." They make it sound so simple!

"Trisha" is obviously a popular show in Britain, it even gets a mention in the film "Shaun of the Dead". In Australia it is shown on the channel UKTV, the episodes are from 2005. Seeing people scream and shout at each other may seem entertaining for a while, but there is the danger that it will become an unhealthy obsession. Watch "Trisha" by all means, but don't let it take over your life.
