It’s no secret that the DC Extended Universe has had more than a few stumbles since its inception. Truthfully, the franchise only has one bonafide hit – Wonder Woman – and it seems the studio continues to make the same mistakes over and over again. It shows in the frosty reception that their films receive, too, with Justice League being the most recent example. Yet, when you actually sit down and look into the numbers – which, let’s face it, are all that really matters in the end – Warner Bros.’ burgeoning cinematic universe is actually more successful than the McU.

Following the mixed critical reception and middling box office gross of Justice League, everyone is wondering what’s next for the DC Extended Universe. The franchise has a host of upcoming projects on the slate, but it seems likely that Warner Bros. will have to rethink their strategy and streamline their output.
One film that’s been touted is Man of Steel 2, the long-awaited sequel to Henry Cavill’s debut as Superman back in 2013. Earlier this year, we heard various bits and pieces about the movie, including that Kingsman‘s Matthew Vaughn was in talks to direct and that it could see Supes go up against Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. However, lately the trail has gone cold, leaving the future of the project in question.

Joss Whedon has remained controversially quiet about Justice League throughout the DC movie’s production and release. Despite delivering the final cut of the film for Warner Bros., after working on some extensive reshoots throughout the summer, the usually active Twitter user has had nothing to say about his latest project online. At least, until now, that is.
The former Avengers director has finally mentioned Jl on his timeline… and cleared up a fan debate while he was at it. In reply to The New Yorker’s Emily Nussbaum quoting the lyrics for Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows,” Whedon piped up to admit that he “stuck it in Jl.” In other words, he’s responsible for the movie’s opening credits montage, over which plays a cover of the classic song by Sigrid.

Maybe there’s still hope, after all?
Though Justice League got off to a rocky start at the box office last week, pulling in a very underwhelming $94 million on home turf, it now sounds like the pic could still make a strong finish thanks to a decent second weekend. After hitting it big in China over the past few days, we’re learning that DC’s tentpole pulled in another $16.5 million in North America yesterday, which should bring its worldwide total up to $400 million at the time of writing.
What’s also nice to note is that it’s only seeing a drop of 57% from opening day, which is better than Man of Steel (77%), Batman V Superman (81%), Suicide Squad (79%) and Wonder Woman (58%). Still, as Forbes notes, Justice League will make less in its first 10 days than Avengers, Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3 and Civil War did. And even with...

Justice League might not be the hit that Warner Bros. were no doubt hoping it would be, but there really is much for fans to love in the movie – no one can deny that. As it brings together six of the DC universe’s biggest names, there’s a lot of history to draw from and, while it doesn’t have much time to do that in its surprisingly lean 120 minute runtime, it tries its best to call back to a few classic comic book arcs and characters, as well as paying homage to previous DC pics that have come before.
It’s not only the easter eggs that fans need to be on the lookout for, though, as the film is also stuffed full of cameos, including one from its director: Zack Snyder. Yes, as he so often does, Snyder snuck himself into the movie for a very brief appearance,...

Those who’ve seen it will know that a fair bit of Justice League takes place in Gotham and the filmmakers don’t miss the opportunity to squeeze in a few references to Batman’s friends and foes along the way. For example, we get Alfred’s lament about the dangerous threat of Steppenwolf.

Now that Justice League‘s opening weekend has come and gone, it’s certainly given us much to ponder when it comes to the future of the DC Extended Universe. Admittedly, this writer agrees with the masses in saying that the film was awesome, but it’s impossible to deny that it fell short of financial expectations. That said, we can only wonder when we’ll be seeing more of Superman, whose own cinematic future is yet to be decided.

DC hasn’t exactly embraced the Marvel model of sticking two post-credits scenes at the end of their movies before now, but Justice League bucked the trend and did just that. The first was a brief but very fun sequence which saw the Flash and Superman challenge each other to a race. The second was much meatier, though, featuring a set-up for an Injustice League headed by Lex Luthor and Deathstroke.
At an earlier stage of production, however, Justice League’s post-credits scene paved the way for another upcoming movie: Green Lantern Corps, set to arrive in 2020. This juicy piece of info comes from Reddit user LND_Film, a visual effects artist who worked on Wonder Woman and has several friends who were involved with Jl. According to them, here’s what the scene originally showed.

Well, the numbers are now in and we imagine the folks at Warner Bros. are probably sweating pretty hard. Though it didn’t bomb – far from it, in fact – Justice League stormed into theaters this weekend and failed to make much of an impact at the box office. Or at least, nowhere near as much of an impact as the studio had no doubt hoped it would make.
The final numbers won’t be here until Monday morning, but analysts are estimating that the team-up pic pulled in a decent but not terribly impressive $96 million on home turf (with $185 million internationally), putting it far below the expected $110 million mark that it had been pegged at prior to release. Undoubtedly, the so-so reviews and storm that hovered over it during production led to this underwhelming opening, and it’s uncertain now which direction the Dceu will head in.

Justice League is now out and, unsurprisingly, it’s splitting people right down the middle. Many fans love it, but critics are giving the film a pounding. Everyone, however, is intrigued to know how it was changed from its original cut.
In case you’ve missed all the behind the scenes upheaval, Zack Snyder had to hand the keys of the movie over to Joss Whedon due to a family tragedy, meaning the reshoots changed Justice League in some major ways. We’re told that only 15-20% of the final cut is Whedon’s, but we suspect this might be underselling it somewhat.
Thanks to some new info from the surprisingly reliable DCEULeaks subreddit, we now have a rundown of the major changes that Whedon made to Snyder’s initial cut, as well as the scenes of his that remained intact. The list is very comprehensive, so we urge you...

I’ve had my fair share of cinematic grievances with Zack Snyder over the years, but you’ve got to feel sympathetic for him right now. Not only is he still recovering from a horrible family tragedy, but being removed from Justice League prior to its release and having a fifth of the film reshot must be rough for a director.
Consequentially, he hasn’t even seen the finished project and seems in no rush to. When chatting with a fan on Vero, he noted the following when asked if he’s had a chance to watch the pic yet:

Justice League may not have been the slam dunk Warner Bros. was no doubt hoping for, but it also wasn’t a complete dud and left a lot of interesting plot threads hanging, planting numerous seeds for the future of the DC Extended Universe along the way. Of course, the most intriguing of these was in one of the post-credits scenes.
If you’ve already seen the film, you’ll recall a moment where a guard at Arkham Asylum goes to check on Lex Luthor in his cell only to find a decoy – a man who looks a bit like Lex, but isn’t, as the supervillain has already escaped. And while we never get this individual’s name in the scene, we see him laughing uncontrollably. In and of itself there’s nothing especially odd about that. After all, he is in Arkham, meaning he’s obviously psychotic.

While speculation continues to swirl around the big screen role of Batman – thanks to the seeming inability of Ben Affleck and Warner Bros. to make an actual commitment on that casting – the release of Justice League has focused attention once more on the proposed Flashpoint, which remains in-development. These two points of discussion are inextricably linked, because any Flashpoint adaptation worth its salt would include an alternative Batman – and this is exactly what Ezra Miller and Geoff Johns have been teasing.
Miller is currently emerging from a tense Justice League release as one of the high points of that film – giving us his first real outing as Barry Allen, also known as The Flash. We’ve seen glimpses of him in the role before – in Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice – but this is his first opportunity to really flesh out that performance, and it’s certainly...

The rumours that Ben Affleck is about to hang up his cowl for good and bow out of the role of Batman are nothing new, but – with Justice League hitting cinemas this week – the story is really intensifying at the moment. Apart from Affleck himself seeming noncommittal about his Dceu future, new reports have arrived claiming that, not only does The Batman director Matt Reeves not want Affleck to star in his movie, but that he’s already got a replacement lined up: Jake Gyllenhaal.
Still, it’s worth remembering that nothing official has been announced by Warner Bros. yet and, according to them, the actor is continuing on as Bruce Wayne for the foreseeable future. This position is backed up by DC producer Charles Roven. While chatting with Cbr, he echoed his previous statements by saying that he believes the star is “certainly planning” on starring in The Batman.

Justice League is a “step in the right direction” in that instead of tumbling down an upwards-climbing escalator on an endless loop, DC has now managed to brace itself on a bottom step, clutching the handrail in a dizzied, confused daze. Forced “humor” clashes with Snyder’s brand of glib intensity, action sequences rage with no captivation, backstory establishment gets tossed aside – but yes, it’s far more “fun” than Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. For whatever that’s worth? Marvel cultivated their rivaling luminescent, “bright side” universe through patience and genuine charisma – DC just wants to bottle the same magic, hellbent on replicating an existing formula without understanding.

Ben Affleck out, Jake Gyllenhaal in?
That’s the latest allegation from John Campea, who claims the current Caped Crusader will be relieved of his crimefighting duties soon after the launch of Justice League. His successor? Jake Gyllenhaal, who has allegedly been shortlisted to headline The Batman – and, by effect, a whole new trilogy – under the stewardship of Matt Reeves.
Gyllenhaal has long been rumored for the role of Gotham’s Dark Knight, having just missed out on Batman and Spider-Man in the past. Indeed, the Oscar-nominated actor has never once strayed into the world of costumed crusaders and superheroes – unless you’re counting the tour-de-force performance of Stronger, in which he played Boston Marathon bombing survivor, Jeff Bauman.
As for The Batman, evidence continues to mount that Matt Reeves is working to replace Ben Affleck in the title role, similar to how his page-one rewrite ostensibly removed Deathstroke from the Gotham-centric spinoff altogether.

Looks like Arrow‘s Oliver Queen won’t be the only CW superhero donning some new threads this season. The Flash‘s Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) will also be sporting a new costume when the series returns for its second season this fall, and fans of the comics will certainly be excited, as Barry’s Season 2 suit, similar to Oliver’s Green Arrow ensemble, is much more similar to the character’s original comic book look. Even more interesting, however, is that Barry’s new suit, which appears to be a little bit of a lighter shade of red and is now featuring the signature white background and the gold lightning bolt symbol, looks to be nearly identical to the one that The Flash of the future was wearing the night Barry’s mother died, as we saw in the Season 1 finale. And if that is the case, we can...

We’re about 11 weeks out from the return of The Vampire Diaries (Oct. 8, The CW), but save for the dilapidated Mystic Falls we saw at the tail end of May’s finale, it’s hard to imagine what Season 7 will actually look like.

Sure, we got a few juicy teases at Comic-Con — including Stefan and Caroline’s amped-up game of cat and mouse, as well as a potential new love interest for Bonnie — but there’s still so much uncertainty about the new, post-Elena world we’re about to enter.

Everyone gamer loves dissecting a good story or drinking in a narrative progression across a few weeks’ worth of playtime, but for those in-the-moment concoctions of code where everything comes together to provide all manner of satisfying or memorable scenarios? There’s truly nothing better.
Already you’re probably be thinking which modern titles gave you some of these set-ups, as although 2015 has definitely seen a better showing of top quality entertainment than the barren wasteland that was last year, it’s far too easy to gravitate towards the ‘big three’ of Bloodborne, Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3, rather than shine the spotlight on the many other games worth your time.
Obviously those three key titles everyone’s raving about (or mounting a case against) are going to find their home here too, but what better celebration of all things game-related than...

As if last night’s stellar episode of The Flash wasn’t good enough on its own, after the excellent hour ended, the series debuted a whole new, minute-long trailer for what’s to come during the remainder of Season 1. And while this comment may sound a bit cheesy, it’s certainly not undeserved: the rest of The Flash‘s first season looks super. The video below not only focuses on the show’s central conflict between Barry and Harrison Wells, who Barry now knows is the Reverse Flash, but it also gives us great peek at the cool and fun events that The Flash has lined up for its final six Season 1 episodes. Not only will we be seeing Ray and Felicity come over to visit Central City, but Laurel and her father also will also cross over later this season, leading Lance and Joe to teaming up together on a case (and from…...

The Blair Witch Project celebrates its 15th anniversary in the UK today (October 22).
The frightening, low-budget, found-footage horror movie was written and directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, and featured an unknown cast who used their own names in the film.
The Blair Witch Project 15 years on: The horror movie that changed everything
It became the first of its kind in Hollywood due to its commercial success and viral online campaign, which was created to make the production look like a real documentary. The Blair Witch website with details on the made-up mythology still exists.
And the clever campaign worked on some gullible and vulnerable viewers. We remember witnessing real tears of fear being shed by some audience members in the cinema (and definitely not ours...).
It purports to be a documentary shot by three inquisitive, daring, and at times daft students investigating the local Blair Witch legend in the Maryland forest.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is in Seoul, South Korea and that means they’re shooting outside where we can get our first glimpse of another Avenger and how they’re going to look on this second go-around.
This time, we get to see Captain America’s stunt double (Not Chris Evans) doing some action shots on a moving truck. The costume looks like a happy mid-point between Cap’s World War II outfit that incorporated some paratrooper padding and his Avengers garb which looked a little too smoothed and polished. This version of Cap’s costume has no connection from the helmet to the suit, has some visible white on the arms as well as shoulder pads and elbow pads. The red and white stripes on his midsection seem to the the touchstone for the character (after what happens to him this Friday in theaters).

Avengers: Age of Ultron is now shooting in Seoul, South Korea, and one fan got close enough to the set today to capture a video of a stunt double in action wearing the new suit which will be donned by Chris Evans’ Captain America in the sequel.
The suit in the first movie was perhaps one of the few flaws that fans found with Joss Whedon’s $1.5 billion blockbuster, as it didn’t quite seem to fit the actor, and was a little “busy” looking with all the zips and whatnot.
However, based on what we can see here, it appears as if they’ve combined the best parts of the suits from Captain America: The First Avenger, Avengers Assemble and Captain America: The Winter Soldier in order to find a much better look for the patriotic superhero.

The New suit for Marc Webb's 'Amazing-Spider Man 2' has been unveiled above and you would forgive us for thinking but apart from the eyes he may have just nicked it off the Sam Raimi films?
The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti (as the Rhino) and Sally Field.
In "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away – but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
