You might have seen word going around about the Irish Unification of 2024. No, don't worry, you didn't miss a bombshell news story; people are floating a line of dialogue from what's been called the most controversial episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" — "The High Ground".
In this episode, the Enterprise visits Rutia IV. The planet's western continent, ruled by its eastern neighbor, is home to the terrorist group the Ansata, who fight for self-determination. Around 20 minutes into the episode, Data (Brent Spiner) asks Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) about the moral arguments for terrorism, pointing to times when violence has affected political change.
Data lists three occasions: Mexican independence from Spain, the Kenzie Rebellion, and the Irish Unification of 2024. The first one is real history, the second is fictional, and the third is imagined but based on reality.
To be clear; the island of Ireland is divided between two governments.

Exclusive: Patrick Radden Keefe’s The Snakehead, a book described as a mix between The Godfather and Chinatown, could be heading to the small screen after A24 won the rights.
The company, which is behind series such as Hulu’s Ramy and Netflix’s Mo, beat out a number of rival production houses to score the rights in a bidding war. We hear that there were nine bidders for the book, which was published in 2010.
The Snakehead investigates a secret world run by a surprising criminal, a middle-aged woman from New York’s Chinatown who manages a multi-million dollar business smuggling people and providing safe passage to America. The Snakehead is a crime story and an exploration of the ironies of immigration in America.
The book tells the story of charismatic middle-aged grandmother Sister Ping who runs her complex empire from a tiny noodle shop in New York’s Chinatown.

Kieran Darcy-Smith’s Wish You Were Here was formerly titled “Say Nothing” – a perhaps more fitting description for several sequences in this relationship busting, mystery drama that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in 2012 (we were there for the premiere). In this exclusive clip provided by the eOne Films folks, we find actress-scribe Felicity Price’s character as not the root cause, but an unexpected burden on Joel Edgerton’s character continued state of distress and anxiety. Also starring Teresa Palmer, Antony Starr and a beautiful Cambodian backdrop, this receives a limited release in select theatres next Friday, June 7th.
Here’s the synopsis: Four friends indulge in a carefree Cambodian holiday, but their sun-soaked retreat quickly takes a horrific turn when one of the travelers disappears. As the search ensues, the others return home, racked with guilt and struggling to return to their daily lives. Does one of...

Our Sundance Film Festival adventure began by immediately setting a high bar with the sophomore film and acting debut (as leading lady, no less) of Cherien Dabis (Amreeka), May in the Summer.
May (Cherien Dabis), a successful and ambitious writer living in New York with her fiancée Ziad (Alexander Siddig), has come home to Amman, Jordan in order to complete the preparations for her wedding that takes place in a month’s time. In the absence of her fiancée, under the judgmental watch of her born-again-times-ten mother (Hiam Abbass) and the newfound presence of her usually absent father (Bill Pullman) and his new wife Anu (Ritu Singh Pande), May begins to discover that her once structured and well planned future just might be the wrong one for her.

"I've been quite outspoken about other artists, so I can't expect people not to be honest about how they feel about me. "You just shrug your shoulders and get on with it. Example has become embroiled in an unlikely feud with Wigan after 'insulting the whole town' with a tweet. The rapper received what he described as "death threats" from people based in the area, after tweeting: "What Twitter needs is a block button for the whole of Wigan, most of the abuse I get comes from Wigan. Are there any nice people in Wigan?" The 'Say Nothing' star later deleted the tweet, but not before it had been retweeted over 1,000 times. The jibe at the town in England's North-West immediately had an impact, and the singer later posted: "Tweeted earlier about how most abuse I get on twitter is from people in Wigan. One of the great things about Kickstarter is that it provides a venue of exposure for films that you may never hear about otherwise. Case in point White Walls Say Nothing, a documentary about street art in Buenos Aires. Now, you're probably asking yourself why you should even care about Argentinian street art. This isn't another Exit Through the Gift Shop looking at the evolution of art and commercialism. This is a documentary about how one city has spent years using graffiti to symbolize freedom of expression under a government that regularly alternated between democracy and dictatorship. The filmmakers behind it have actually been filming for two years already, so this isn't a project that needs help getting off the ground, it just needs help crossing the finish...

"White Walls Say Nothing," a new feature length documentary about public art and activism in Buenos Aires, recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to complete shooting, and we've got the exclusive trailer. Here's the official synopsis: Buenos Aires is a complex, chaotic city. It has European style and a Latin American heart. It has oscillated between dictatorship and democracy for over a century, and its citizens have barely known political or economic stability. Throughout Buenos Aires' turbulent history, successive generations of activists and artists have taken to the streets to express themselves, through words and through art. This has given the walls a powerful and symbolic role. They have become the city’s voice. This powerful tradition of expression in public space; of art and activism, has made the streets of Buenos Aires into a riot of colour and communication. There's a lot of reasons to love the Mass Effect series. It's got an extremely well-realized universe, rich characters, mesmerizing art direction, a fantastic score, and deals with some pretty heavy political issues like genocide and colonization. Plus, there are nifty space battles and giant sand worms. That's pretty cool, right?
But there's always been one glaring design issue that's severely dampened my enjoyment of these games; their cut and dry morality.
One of the main appeals to the series is that you have to make truly important decisions that affect how the story plays out. Some of these are small, like whether to encourage a woman to stick to her gut and refuse to genetically modify her unborn baby. Other times they're a matter of life or death as you pick which team member to sacrifice as they stay behind to ignite a bomb. And sometimes they're of galactic importance,...

For millions of people who have literally dozens of dollars riding on their fantasy football season, yesterday was a crucial Sunday as many pretend-leagues began their playoffs. So good luck trying to segue into the shocking Boardwalk Empire finale when your boyfriend is staring blankly into his bowl of Cheerios, lamenting his poor decision to start Matt Hasselback over Mark Sanchez. Say nothing. Give him time to mourn. But if he sulks a little too long, give him some tough love: “Why wouldn’t you go with Sanchez in December? Have the last two seasons taught you nothing?” And then run.

Filmmaker Kieran Darcy-Smith’s debut feature Wish You Were Here has been selected to open Sundance Film Festival.
The screening will also be the world premiere of the film co-written by Darcy-Smith and his wife Felicity Price and produced by Angie Fielder.
Encore spoke with Darcy-Smith in November: “It’s been an extraordinary 18 months and we were given this opportunity to make this movie. I’m thrilled with the response.”
“It’s as I envisioned. That’s probably one of the reasons I feel so good – all the stars lined up. My wife and I co-wrote the script. We had to get a nanny and shoot in cambodia and it was a low budget film. It was madness. A very alive period of our lives. And out of this madness came this film.”

Coronation Street stars have reportedly been told to avoid discussing the sexual abuse allegations faced by Michael Le Vell. Le Vell (Kevin Webster) was arrested at his home in Greater Manchester last Friday after police received a report of a historical offence. Show bosses have since warned cast members who use Twitter and Facebook to only post words of support for Le Vell so they don't affect the police investigation. A Coronation Street source last night told the Daily Star Sunday: "The advice to them is, 'Say nothing'. "If they must mention what is happening (more)...

Scream 4
Opens: April 15th 2011
Cast: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Mary McDonnell, Emma Roberts Director: Wes Craven
Summary: Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with family and friends, but it also brings about the return of Ghostface which puts the whole town in danger.
Analysis: Back in late 1996 when I first began covering film news, "Scream" was released and became more than just a sleeper hit. After years of genre movies being relegated to direct-to-video status, this comedic slasher spawned the biggest surge in the horror film genre since "Halloween" almost two decades before. Its post-modern stylings and witty self-aware dialogue went on to be a big influence on films and television in general.
Yet the "Scream" series itself never could quite capture that glory again. By the time the...

Q: I am currently employed full-time and grateful to have a job. I am in the finance department of a small company which has no accountability, multiple "hands in the pot," and uses unethical business practices. My suggestions to improve the department and to comply with Gaap (generally accepted accounting principles) are always met with, "That's just the way it's done here." I can't live with this. I have an exit strategy and the support of my spouse while I seek employment. How do I approach the issue in interviews with future potential employers? Although honesty is the best policy, I most certainly cannot discuss the wrong-doings. Suggestions?
A: You just need to say it the right way: "I want to work for your company because you are one of the shining lights in this industry. I left my previous company because as a small, closely held operation it behaved...

Last year, Michael Caine got into a heap of hot water when he merely dared to address rumors that Johnny Depp might play the Riddler in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight sequel. Well, Caine's no dummy. And when he was recently asked the question again by MTV.com, he definitively stated that Depp would not be playing the Riddler...which, of course, may be news, too. Back in April, I spoke with Christian Bale over the phone about Public Enemies, and asked him then about the Depp rumors, thinking he might support the idea since he had just worked with Depp. He didn't take the bait. After I asked the question, he took the phone away from his ear, turned to someone who was in the room with him (I'm guessing a publicist or agent or some other stone-faced gatekeeper) and asked them, "Is there any truth to the fact...

In addition to VH1, the film also will air on Canadian channels the Movie Network and Movie Central. Values is in production in Calgary, Alberta, with Los Angeles-based company Blueprint Entertainment (HR 3/25).
