I recently had the chance to sit down with two of the talented writers (director Michael Dougherty was also a writer on the film) behind the upcoming film Krampus, Todd Casey and Zach Shields. Along with Dougherty they are also part of the team responsible for the four part collection of short stories set in the Trick 'r Treat universe, titled Days Of The Dead. While the original film has an extensive cult following, Days Of The Dead also serves as a little taste of what could possibly be a full-fledged film return to Sam's spooky little world.
Gt's Matt Mueller: One of the most noticeable things about all four stories is that at their core is an unexpected sentimentality. It is something I didn’t necessarily expect, but ultimately was a pleasant surprise. There is a lot of heartbreak and pain in these stories, but also a rather big splash of hope,...

The star, who has had a tough couple of years, tweeted "Merry Christmas!" and shared a recent photo of herself. In the shot, Bynes, 28, sports newly brunette locks. Ozell is heard in the laughing in the background as she watches her husband go through a myriad of emotions in the 37-second video that more than 13,000 people have viewed. Trick 'r Treat is my number one favorite Halloween movie of all time, as it perfectly captures the spirit of the holiday in every aspect. Unfortunately, it never got an official theatrical release because it famously got screwed over by Warner Bros. Regardless of that, the movie generated a huge cult following, one large enough that Legendary Pictures officially greenlit a sequel that writer and director Michael Dougherty is currently developing. This is a more recent Halloween film, but it's an instant classic to anyone who has seen it. If you're a true fan of the film, and you were following its story, then you might know most of these, but here are ten fun facts about the movie that you might want to go through just in case.
Many of the kids trick or treating in the film were actually Little people. They were used since the movie was...

Do you ever feel like Christmas has been hijackedc There's all that commercialism and people that want to replace "Merry Christmas" with "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings"... whatever that means... This is the start of what you are about to witness. I saw the poster for Kirk Cameron's new movie Saving Christmas earlier today, but held off on posting it, but now that the trailer has been released there is no sense in holding back any longer. The tagline alone - "Putting Christ Back in Christmas" - is ridiculous enough, but to know the film follows Cmaeron's attempt to convince his friend, who just so happens to be named Christian, the real spirit of Christmas has not disappeared is a bit too much for me to handle. Then you watch the trailer and, well, see for yourself. By the way, Mr. Cameron, "Happy Holidays" and "Season's Greetings" mean exactly what they sound like.

Season's greetings, TV nerds! Today is your holy day -- it is Dec. 23, also known as Festivus, the holiday made famous in a 1997 "Seinfeld" episode. The holiday was made up by "Seinfeld" writer Dan O'Keefe's father, and was then immortalized in TV history in "The Strike."
At Zap2it, we've already erected our aluminum Festivus Pole and scheduled the traditional Feats of Strength for later, but we wanted to share the third tenet of the special day, the Airing of Grievances, with the Internet so that you might be able to join in.
Here are our TV-related complaints -- and yes, there are some spoilers in here, so read at your own risk.
ABC, our grievance with you isn't that you thought Rebel Wilson was a talent worthy of her own show. What we take issue with, however, is that you let that show be "Super Fun Night." Never...

Though the majority of filmmakers never get the chance to expand upon the short films they make, it’s not all that uncommon for a feature film to be spawned from the kernel of an idea presented in a short. There’s really no better way to generate interest for a movie idea than to bring that idea to life in a short film; it's a much more attention-grabbing way of presenting a concept than sending out a script and hoping someone reads it. There are a handful of horror films over the years that started small before they got to the chance to grow bigger, and today we take a look a ten of those movies. Where available (which is thankfully nine out of ten cases), the original shorts have been included so that you can witness the small beginnings of these well-known horror flicks! Season's greetings from Tony Stark! Your gift: This brand spankin' new clip from "Iron Man 3," which comes out on May 3.
While you're going to love the above snippet, in which Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) lets the villainous Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) know he means business, you probably wouldn't love being on the receiving end of the audio postcard Stark delivers to the bad guy through the press.
Mostly because it involves, uh, murder.
"I've decided that you just died, pal. I'll come get the body," he says, addressing the Mandarin during a press gaggle and detailing his home address and the state of his doors (unlocked). Then, of course, he commits the requisite small property damage we all know and love him for, flinging a reporter's cell phone against a concrete wall.
Yikes, things are getting tense in here.
But, hey, if Iron Man is inviting the Mandarin over, maybe...

Now This is the kind of campaign I'm proud to endorse... We just received a message from a group of people who identify themselves only as "The Filmmakers." Apparently these folks are so determined to raise money for an indie horror movie they're making that they're prepared to end the life of their lead actress if their budget goal is not met. Read their invitation, er, warning after the jump. Here's what the insane (and insanely creative) showmen behind the "Save Jillian" campaign have to say... Season's greetings, Fearnet. If you don't hear "Jingle bells, Batman smells..." at least one time during the upcoming holiday update then Sony and DC just aren't doing it right.
Earlier this week, DC announced their "Season's Greetings" update for Dcu Online, which will add a bit of Christmas-y flavor to their Mmo and a new challenge involving the kleptomaniac Orange Lantern Larfleeze pulling a Grinch on the citizens of the Dcu and stealing all of their presents.
Here's the full text from the update:
The holidays are upon us and Dcuo is ready to celebrate! Citizens of Metropolis and Gotham City are dressing up and decorating both cities, and you're all invited to join in on the fun.
But not everyone is feeling the happiness and joy the holidays bring. Larfleeze, the crafty leader of the Orange Lanterns, is doing everything in his power to make sure there's nothing left under anyone's tree,...

This past week a handful of standout DVD's hit the streets including the highly anticipated Trick 'R Treat and the Ghost House Pictures shocker The Children. A few disjointed films also hit the public market, but I'll steer clear of those duds for the time being and share some insight into some worthwhile cinema.
Trick 'R Treat focuses on four separate Halloween tales that all intersect ala a Tarantino script structure. There's plenty of vengeful ghosts, sexy lycanthropes and odd ball creatures to keep the goose bumps surfacing. Also involved in the story is a father who could use some serious parenting lessons, unless of course his ultimate goal is to raise homicidal maniacs, in which case - kudos to him, he's doing a damn fine job.
One of the beautiful things about this picture is how smoothly Michael Dougherty (who wrote and directed the picture) ties each tale together.

Trick 'r Treat's long road to a release ends today with the arrival of the Trick 'r Treat DVD/Blu-Ray. Originally shot in 2006, with a scheduled release date of October 5, 2007, which was eventually un-scheduled. When the film had its West Coast premiere at the 2008 ScreamFest (read our review here), the cast attending were seeing for the first time. At long last, Warner Bros. is releasing the movie, but not in theaters.
Last night, Trick 'r Treat screened at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, CA, and writer/director Michael Dougherty was on hand to discuss his fantastic horror anthology that weaves together 4 different horror stories over one Halloween night in Ohio. While it's no surprise that Trick 'r Treat was inspired by Creepshow and Halloween (Dougherty said "the whole movie is like me giving John Carpenter a hand job"), Dougherty explained he had another, more unusual influence as well.

Michael Dougherty's long anticipated Trick 'R Treat is finally coming to DVD this Halloween. Dougherty told Fangoria what we can expect from the release: There will be a standard-edition DVD which will pretty much just have the movie, and then the Blu-ray disc will have all the special features, ’cause that’s the way things are moving these days. There will be a documentary, the animated short film, Season's Greetings that kind of inspired the feature, deleted scenes, outtakes, all sorts of fun. And there will be a few different audio commentaries that are still in the works; I don’t know exactly who’ll be on them yet, but definitely me and hopefully some of the cast.”...
