Yes, it's worse than Plan Nine...but it's fun !
hellrick200112 August 2001
This movie is as bad as you want it ! Worse than "Plan Nine From Outer Space"...Worse than "Alien On Earth"...even worse than "Indepandence Day" ( yes, it's true )...But more funny than these three movies, too. There are lot of killer stuff in this one : a lot of gay scientist in pink uniform, some very fat dancing queen ( remember Divine ? ), some very gorgeous but silly female alien in platform boots, some incredibly bad acting, and, of course, a giant MOUSAKA ! Yes, a MOUSAKA. It's a kind of parody of the Blob but you can never tell if the director wants to make a normal serious thing or not. Some dialogues :"This moonlight looks like a sunrise" ; "The Z-Movies strikes back" or the explanations of the origins of the monsters ( with some words you only heard in "Star Trek" ) are really devastating. The theater was totally FULL ( with 30 minutes of queue ! )when I saw it. You laugh almost all the time ( only the end is a bit too much ! ) but it's something that must be seen to be true !

Cheap fun: a funny movie with a visibly low budget
dareios6020 March 2006
This film has no special effects at all, yet it features a flying saucer (with scantily clad, silly, blonde female aliens), a 20-meter-high blob of bechamel and eggplant devastating Athens, and as many film and comic book citations as you can find. The obvious ones range from vintage science fiction of the '50s to Almodóvar... Some (universally understandable) hinting at scandals involving Greek politicians is also there.

Corpses lie in the streets of Athens, sprayed with the killer liquid spewed out by the giant mousaka. They look like your average college roommate when asked to pose for the first test shot with your new camera. Only, the level of that first shot is usually higher, but it is all part of the fun. The main female role is played by a man... or is it the main transvestite role played by a transvestite? you get the idea.

Warning: Spoilers
The Attack of the Giant Moussaka, Greek: Η Επίθεση του Γιγαντιαίου Μουσακά; 1999), is a Greek science fiction parody film, produced, written and directed by Panos H. Koutras In this film the city of Athens is at war with a terrifying gigantic mousaka accidentally produced when an ordinary serving is hit by a ray from an alien space ship. The plot promotes the movie with humor as it puts feelings to a traditional Greek dish.Mousakas is violent and wants to accomplish its objective at any means.Tara the transsexual drag queen seems to be popped out of an Almodovar's film.Tara helps the director to serve the action and continue the plot. The movie also satirizes the Media which deform the news and put aside everything in order to accomplish their goal.Mousakas is an illogical creature in an illogical world.Of course the movie is a b-movie so the special effects are not great but they do well with the other parts of the film. The director doesn't fear the different and features many unusual things in this movie. If you wanna have fun and speak for a movie all night laughing then watch The Attack Of The Giant Mousaka, but watching it for a second time you will notice things other than the strange death scenes.

Movie Highlight: Antonis Boudalas's death after shooting Mousaka.

Fell as flat as a pancake

Having watched the film in Greek with French sub-titles, it is possible that I missed some subtle points in the dialogue, but I don't think so. This film reminded me of something that might have been made by a talentless group of students in the 60's - everything just thrown together for the amusement of the participants, so they could show it to their friends and say "Look that's my idea".

If you have masochistic tendencies watch this film, otherwise avoid at all costs.

Attack of the Greek B-Movie
igiskos26 July 2004
I'm not going to analyze anything from the script.....i can tell you though, its as lousy as it can be. But that was what director mr.Koutras(former musician) wanted to achieve in the first place. The idea was to make a hilarious b-movie based on some classic flicks right back from the 50's. But the fun part is that he totally distorted and humorised every piece of fact that used from that period of sci-fi cinema. The movie is fast paced, totally enjoyable and became an instant cult from the moment that was released in Theaters all around.

You know , small budget really takes the creator's capabilities a bit further cause of the pressure to conclude as fast and as cheaply, the movie, as humanly possible. Thats why Koutras made an effort to produce something not as corny as a 50's or 60's sci-fi b-flick, but faster, more up to date and definitely funnier than any other cult, b-movie film that came out. I think that this director is making fun of everyone and he enjoys every last minute of it. The good thing for this film is that the actors surprisingly followed the director's guidance and felt free to express their true selfes ,without having to worry about how the movie gonna look to the sci-fi audience that will see it.Finally, One thing i can say for sure...... that, i had a heck of a good time watching it.

A really weird Greek trash fantasy
Mikew300117 March 2006
No way, what do you expect from a self-declared trash-b-movie from Greece that is called "The Attack of the Killer Moussaka"? If you're not aware what a Moussaka is just ask the next Greek around, and he will tell you - it's a very spicy meat dish with lots of vegetable.

It's very big in Greece, and even bigger in this very strange movie, as a big Moussaka is blown up to a 20 feet tall monster meal that develops a life on its own and raids the city of Athens by killing several people with it's deadly, spicy ingredients.

Now it's the turn of several strange people such as some gays, several drag queen and transsexuals, an female reporter and a bunch of stupidly acting Playboy bunnies from outer space to fight the spicy power...

This film is really weird, has a really stupid plot, no acting at all and is completely non-thrilling, but it's fun to watch if you're into John Water, Russ Meyer, Ed Wood or Roger Corman movies. The film doesn't take itself seriously at all, and the wooden actors have really fun playing their roles.

Next to the legendary "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", there are some nice references to the mentioned trash movie icons, too. The fat transvestite looks like Divine in his/her John Waters comedies and some nice boobs in white bras are shown very Russ-Meyer-like style. The attacking moussaka monster is pasted into the picture like the monsters in an old Jack Arnold or Ray Harryhausen monster movie, and there even a funny reminiscence to Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Don't expect too much from this movie, except for lots of fun and a healthy appetite for a tasty Greek moussaka afterward.

Petite chef d'oeuvre
ensor_ostende-115 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has been misunderstood ! I've also seen it with french subtitles and is an one of a kind : parody of B and Z like sci-fi movies, with low budget FX and mainly, the characters mock everything ! I mean, a travesty is the lead lady (and heck, he look's more feminine than the minister's wife), the scientists more like a gay-pride rather than real ones (sic. scientists) and I pass...

This IS a movie to see !!! 10/10 or 20/20 as here in the old land !!! This worth for having a nice time, laugh with the silliness of every situation and acting !!!

And perhaps, you'll wanna taste a moussaka... oh lord, I'm vegetarian, so no problem for me !!! LOL
