- In the mid-22nd century, the Earth ship Enterprise is launched under the command of Captain Jonathan Archer. When the crew rescues an alien from a crashed spaceship, Earth gets its first look at the alien's race - the Klingons. Archer and his crew must walk a fine line as they attempt to communicate with the Klingon pilot, whose language is completely unknown, and whose homeworld wants him back. Is this the beginning of friendship...or interstellar war?—Brian Barjenbruch
- 2151. Starfleet has constructed its first vessel that is capable of exploring the universe and the launch of Enterprise is imminent. Then two alien races land in a cornfield near Broken Bow, Oklahoma. A Klingon is being chased by two yellow-skinned creatures. The Klingon gets rid of the two, but not of a farmer, who shoots him with a plasma rifle. Back at Starfleet headquarters the Vulcans, who have been advising and restraining the human race since Dr. Zefram Cochrane invented the plasma engine almost 100 years ago, announce that they will take the Klingon, Klaang, back to his home world Kronos. They urge the humans to postpone the launch of Enterprise. But for the first time Starfleet will not listen to the Vulcans and the decision is made to let Enterprise bring back Klaang. Barely underway Enterprise' systems fail and the ship is entered by the yellow-skinned aliens.—Arnoud Tiele (imdb@tiele.nl)
- Archer, Trip, T'Pol and Hoshi have been captured, but it turns out this group of Sulibans is lead by Sarin, the person Klaang last spoke to before crash landing on earth. She tells Klaang was carrying an important message to Kronos that must prevent a breakout of civil war in the Klingon Empire. But another group of Suliban attack and before dying she urges Archer to find Klaang. The four humans escape from the planet, but Archer gets wounded in the leg. He loses consciousness and T'Pol announces she is taking command of Enterprise. To everybody's surprise she modifies the sensors so that Enterprise can track the ship that captured Klaang.—Arnoud Tiele (imdb@tiele.nl)
- In 2151, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, a farmer shoots the Klingon Klaang with his plasma rifle after the explosion of a methane store in his farm and the Klingon is sent to the Starfleet Hospital. The Vulcan ambassador Soval proposes to unplug the life support system and bring the corpse of Klaang to his warrior empire in planet Kronos with honor. However, Captain Jonathan Archer proposes to go with the Enterprise in her first voyage and bring back Klaang alive to his home planet. Jonathan invites Ensign Hoshi Sato and Dr. Phlox, who is treating Klaang, to complete his crew, and the Vulcan Sub-Commander T'Pol is assigned to participate in the dangerous first mission of Enterprise. When the equipment of the starship is shut-down, Klaang is kidnapped by Sulibans after a shooting in the hospital. After the autopsy of the Suliban killed in the shooting, Captain Archer is informed by Dr. Phlox that the alien was actually a mutant, altered in a sophisticated genetic engineering process. T'Pol modifies the sensors of the Enterprise to track the Suliban spacecraft until she reaches planet Riger X. They investigate and disclose that Klaang was a courier, bringing an important message about the Temporal Cold War from the Suliban Sarin to the leaders of the Klingons in Kronos.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Captain Jonathan Archer, T'Pol and Trip meet Sarin and she explains that Klaang is a courier, bringing an important message from her to the leaders of the Klingons in Kronos about rebels Suliban that intend to promote the Temporal Cold War among the Klingons. Archer feels the need of rescuing Klaang and travels to the Suliban mother-ship with Trip to bring the Klingon back to Enterprise. T'Pol seems to understand that loyalty is an emotion that cannot be avoided by humans.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- On Earth in 2121, a young Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) is painting a model spaceship with his father, Henry (Mark Moses), principal designer of Earth's first Warp 5 engine. Without fully understanding the reasons behind the Vulcans' constraint, he believes that there must be an explanation for holding the human space program back.
Thirty years later, in 2151, a Klingon named Klaang (Tommy Lister, Jr.) crashes in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. He kills his two Suliban pursuers, but is then critically wounded by a farmer. Archer, now Captain of the soon-to-be-launched prototype star-ship Enterprise NX-01, is called to Starfleet Headquarters, where he discusses the incident with Admiral Forrest (Vaughn Armstrong) and Vulcan ambassador Soval (Gary Graham). The Vulcans say that Klaang was some sort of courier, carrying vital information back to Kronos, the Klingon home world. The Vulcans have convinced Klingons that the corpse (they propose to remove Klaang from life support, which will kill him) will be handed over to them and in exchange the Klingons wont attack Earth. The Vulcans wish to delay the launch of Enterprise. Archer (who thinks this is another Vulcan ploy to delay human space flight, who have been delaying humans for over a century now), after consulting with the Denobulan Doctor Phlox (John Billingsley), convinces Forrest to allow the new ship to take Klaang to Qo'NoS (Kronos), while he is still alive..
Prior to departure, Archer seeks additional crew-members, including Phlox and linguist Hoshi Sato (Linda Park), while Sub-Commander T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) is assigned as their "Vulcan liaison" (as they need Vulcan star charts to get to Kronos). Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker III (Connor Trinneer), Lieutenant Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating) & Ensign Travis Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery).. The ship is made ready in double quick time. the transporters are not yet authorized for organic material and deflector shields are not fully functional yet. Doctor Zefram Cochrane (James Cromwell) the man who created the warp drive, dedicates the ship to humanity at its launch ceremony. This is the first mission of the ship Enterprise NX-01 and the launch of human space flight into deep space..
Archer engages T'Pol in conversation to understand why Vulcans don't support human space flight. T'Pol replies that humans have yet to embrace patience or logic and are still impulsive carnivores (Vulcans are vegetarians).
Meanwhile, on a Suliban vessel somewhere, Silik (John Fleck), leader of the Suliban Cabal, speaks with a mysterious, nameless humanoid figure from their future. The figure orders Silik to recover Klaang. On Enterprise Klaang regains consciousness, but the universal translator does not allow Archer and Sato to communicate with him effectively. Meanwhile Sato can feel tremors on the ship. Suddenly, Suliban attack the ship and main power is disrupted. During the chaos, one intruder is killed and Klaang is kidnapped. T'Pol wants Archer to return to Earth, but Archer says he is sick of having Vulcans tell humans what they can do, and vows to complete his mission.
Later, in Sickbay, Phlox shows Archer the autopsied Suliban corpse, and points out several genetic enhancements (5 lobes in lungs, instead of 3. Ability to process different kinds of atmospheres. Subcutaneous pigment sacs and compound retinas which can see things that even sensors cant detect). Sato completes a translation of Klaang's speech, and keywords reveal that T'Pol has been withholding information about the Vulcan investigation, including the fact that Klaang had been on Rigel X (Vulcans had known from Klaang's ship navigational logs that it had been to Rigel X before crashing on Earth). Meanwhile, an alien officer aboard the Suliban complex interrogates Klaang in the Klingon language. Klaang admits that he met Sarin on Rigel X, but he was not given anything to take back to Kronos. He has no information.. Arriving at the Rigel X Trade Complex, Archer, Sato, Tucker, and T'Pol are seized by Suliban agents.
