surprisingly enjoyable
witchbabybat77730 August 2001
I didn't expect to enjoy this movie as much as I did. The part I enjoyed the most was watching Nicole Sullivan and her funny Texan sidekick. Annabeth Gish was pretty boring, and the male lead- Kamar was nice eyecandy. The Texan actors were great(really great, especially the sidekick and Aimee's brother played by Texan actor Lee Burns) and the cinematography was nice. It is a nice little movie that really makes one want to get a PR. boy and SALSA!

Formula anyone?
swayback8010 March 2005
Absolutely, w/out a doubt, one of the most pretentious, idiotic, formulaic, pieces of unadulterated garbage to come from Hollywood in years. This one has everything- the "sultry" Latin dance instructor, the slutty companion, the overbearing mother, and of course, the "confused" woman (A. Gish). As for the fiancé', he is portrayed as the ultimate jerk, idiot, asshole, etc. You are directed towards the conclusion, & inevitable question, "why was she with him in the first place?" This is typical Hollywood- Justify her amoral, cheating, low-life behavior by showing the man she's committed to, as a HUGE mistake! One that she has to dump, just to "find" herself. Be afraid, be very afraid!!!

Her Heart Had Salsa and Mambo
claudio_carvalho2 December 2005
In Houston, the aspirant to photographer Amie (Annabeth Gish) receives a complete Salsa and Mambo dancing course from her close colleagues and friends as her wedding gift. Her wedding with the wealthy and arrogant Jason (Daniel Cosgrove) is close and she intends to dance Salsa in the feast. Amie meets the Porto Rican instructor Nicholas (Kamar de los Reyes), and she feels a great attraction for him. When Nicholas bet with his former mate Cristina (Tessie Santiago) that he would teach Amie to be a great dancer, they daily train together for long periods and they fall for each other. Amie breaks with Jason, but is not sure about with whom she really wants to stay.

What a delightful movie this "The Way She Moves" is. The story is very predictable, follows the success of other romantic comedies having the dance as the theme, but I liked this one a lot. The pair Annabeth Gish and Kamar de los Reyes shows a great chemistry; the Latin music score and the choreography are excellent; the conclusion of the romance is very funny; and the sexy Tessie Santiago is delicious, really a collyrium for the eyes. I found this movie surprisingly cute and pleasant and I really intend to see it again in the next future. My vote is seven.

Title (Brazil): "Ritmo da Sedução" ("Rhythm of the Seduction")

If it wasn't for
gemini31317 September 2001
Nicole Sullivan, Kamar de los Reyes' body (Oh yes!!), Tessie Santiago (*singing* "Behind the mask . . ."), and the choreography, this movie would have been terrible. That's unfortunate, because I feel VH1 has produced some of the most original movies/series on Basic Cable.

I like stories that have cultures coming together, because that's how it should be (!), but I REALLY feel they should have gotten a better lead actress. Annabeth Gish acted like she ate a cold, 3 day old burrito prior to shooting this movie. She was extremely dry. There was a moment when she was supposed to look pensive, but she looked braindead for about 40 seconds. I thought it was an outtake. Nicole Sullivan would have been so much better in the lead role.

The movie had a decent plot, but the screenplay lacked. Plus, everyone was pushing someone away from something they wanted without a significant reason for pushing them in the first place. That's not drama, that's a reason to take a screenwriting class--or to pick another career.

I have to give this one a 4, because what I did like, kept it from being disqualified. I can't save the last dance, because the dancehall is closed--indefinitely.

Great Movie
s_shipman6 September 2006
This was one of the best movies I've seen on t.v in a long time. I would like to know how to purchase it. The story line was wonderful and exhilarating. I think that the writer was holding back a little and can do much better. I gave it a 7 out of 10 for that very reason. He showed us a taste of his true talent in "Save The Last Dance." I hope to see many more of this writers movies on the big screen. The raw talent that Duane has is very refreshing. He is a force to be reckoned with in the future. If anyone reading this knows how I can purchase this particular movie please e-mail me. I already own "Save The Last Dance" and I would like to continue to build my library with movies by this writer. Keep up the good work Duane!

Worthy addition to Dance movie genre
escaped26 January 2002
For anyone who likes dance movies such as DIRTY DANCING, STRICTLY BALLROOM, and SAVE THE LAST DANCE this one is a worthy addition to that genre. Like those films, this one shares the standard plot of romantic leads from different backgrounds overcoming obstacles with comic relief from their sidekicks and lots of enjoyable music and dancing. Once again we have the awkward heroine who faces antagonism but blossoms while taking dance lessons from a hunky homeboy. Kamar De Los Reyes and Annabeth Gish were very appealing as sensitive soulmates. I have two complaints though- it was unbelievable to me that she would even consider marrying the numbskull fiance after connecting with Nick and it didn't make sense that her friends and mother would object to Nick simply because he was Hispanic- when he was a cultured college educated school teacher and even Catholic like she was. Movie writers seem to keep wanting to perpetuate cultural biases by presenting conflicts intended to show that there is something shocking about people of different ethnic backgrounds having relationships when in the real world it has become quite commonplace and accepted-at least in MY world.

Dirty Dancing redone.
fgunther2 September 2001
Warning: Spoilers
Annabeth Gish has always been one of my favorite actresses, and she does a very good job in this movie, especially the dance sequences. Kamar de los Reyes is excellent. Too bad these two fine actors weren't given better material.

The plot is very much "Dirty Dancing", with novice dance student falling for charismatic Latin dance instructor, and a whole lot of very sensuous dancing going on. Potential spoiler: the ending is cribbed right out of "Dirty Dancing", except it's even cornier.

I enjoyed the movie's visuals, and tried to tune out the schmaltzier parts of the storyline. BTW, the two women who play Annabeth's coworkers are excellent; unfortunately, in the TV version I saw, they scrunched the credits to the side to make room for a promo, and I couldn't get their names.

If you like fantasy love stories (I do), and can suspend your brain for a while, you'll enjoy this movie. I gave it a 7, largely because of some very fine acting, and wonderful dance scenes.

Pleasantly surprised
sweetrupturedlight25 July 2003
this one surprised me. i chose it at the video store, just because. i'd never heard about it, nor the actors, except for Daniel Cosgrove, thanks to life in Pine Valley (AMC) so, i had no bias.

after the first watch, i thought it was ok, but the second time round i enoyed it much more. The leads were well cast, esp Kamar, who plays Nick. He is sexy, a good actor to boot, and he was made to move to music. i could have spent the entire movie just watching him dance. Annabeth Gish was good also, although i thought that she lacked a little in the rhythem department. i will say though, that after the wonderful, natural moves of Kamar and Tesse Santiago, Amy was more than passable.

there were of course little things that irritated me. the fact that she chose to re-commit to her loser fiance, and then practically go through with the wedding! hello! also, her mothers attitude about Nick's heritage as well as her friends anti-nick advice, then the sudden turnabout from both parties in the end, including Tesse's character.

despite that, this movie is a treat for anyone who loves the sultry music, the wonderful beats, the dancing and the eye candy in the form of Kamar. i loved it.

10!

I love this movie
gidgetnascarfan2 January 2005
I loved this movie. I loved the story, the music and characters. I was lucky enough to get it and I watch it often. I really wished they had made a soundtrack to it. I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I recommend this movie to anyone who loves music and romance.

This movie is great for the hopeless romantic and music lover. It shows how love can overcome anyone or anything that may be put before you. The best lesson to learn is we all have a right to make our own choices of whom to love. Its best to follow your heart and your first instincts most of the time you can't go wrong.

The movie shows you should marry to love and love alone. Whether someone has money or not, does guarantee you a happy life.

Great Dance Movie
Taram10 January 2002
If one has ever been to ballroom dance classes, one will see the reality of the film. One CAN learn to dance, but those who can dance already can dream watching. The love story adds to the intrigue. Tessie Santiago's performance is a classic and is what the sells the film. The choreography is what makes it a joy to watch.

A film where you can lose yourself in Salsa
ali-brown6 June 2005
I thoroughly enjoyed this film and it has made me want to learn to Salsa dance in the hope that my teacher is as lovely looking and fit as Nicholas (Kamar De Los Reyes). I would really love to own this film on DVD or Video so if anyone knows of a way I can get hold of a copy please let me know. Has Kamar De Los Reyes been in any other films - if so I would be keen to find out which ones. The whole film left me with that real feel good feeling and that happy endings do happen. If you haven't seen this film and you love dancing and romance then it is definitely worth watching. Well done!! If Kamar De Los Reyes would like to teach me to salsa dance then I am a very willing student.

Nicholas
kristynamy2 May 2008
I love this movie, it took me years to finally get it on ebay. I love salsa dancing and Kamar De Los Reyes was the perfect man to play Nick character, he represent salsa dancing so well. I really wish Tessie though would have been the one to play (amy's)character, she played her character with confidence and she showed she can really dance, and I could watch her and Nick dance all day long, the look so good together. The only thing I am having trouble now is just getting the songs that come out in this movie, so if anyone knows them please post a note here,or I'm @yahoo.com.The songs are excellent, and I already know that the main song "born to fly" is not available, which is ashame it lyrics are so inspiring as the movie.

A love story you get lost in.
sonya02714 April 2009
I loved this movie, the soundtrack was brilliant and i couldn't take my eyes of Kamar, he is just so sexy it's unbelievable and i could watch him dance forever. Annabeth Gish, played her part really well and i have to say i was so glad she didn't marry that spoilt brat that she was engaged to. It was a love story which you just got lost in, i just wish it had been me (fat chance) but here's hoping. I just didn't want it to end. I only seen this movie for the first time 2 weeks ago and i had to get the DVD for myself and i haven't stopped watching it since. I wish there was more films like this one. The finale at the end of this movie the song Born to Fly just gets stuck in your head and unfortunately there has never been a soundtrack released. This movie is up there with the likes of Dirty dancing and Save the last dance, i think i enjoyed this more.

Romance coupled with practice, practice...a very good lesson for anyone!
gladysjm6 September 2001
A very romantic movie but also an excellent movie that taught one thing well. That one thing was that if you want to be good at anything, in this case, salsa dancing, it is very important to work at it and practice it until you have it perfected. This is a lesson that can be applied to anything in life including learning a musical instrument, acting on stage, etc. While the dancing in this movie was excellent the story-line was a more common boy meets girl story but with a twist at the end that was actually very comedic. The scene as Amy runs back down the aisle and out of church and the look on the faces of the wedding guests as she disappears on the back of a moving fire engine was priceless and one of my favorite. It almost makes you say "way to go, Amy"! :) Be sure to watch the movie if VH1 ever decides to play it again. The actors in this movie were believable. It was a VH1 Original Movie that aired over Labor Day weekend, 2001.

Love it

Warning: Spoilers
Love this movie! Annabeth Gish is luminous and believable. The romance is also lovely. She is being rescued from her own cautionary approach to life. The final dance is also quite lovely. The firebrick ride is a little cornet but it does not hurt anything. As a dance movie, it has more elaboration of characters. Her costar is of course handsome and ready for swooping her up. All dance romances get compared to Dirty Dancing, where the couple helps each other in some unexpected ways. This movie is similar. For my last line of comments, let me say I have spent an hour trying to get a copy of this movie! That is how much I like it.

annabeth gish is sooooo cool,,,how can anyone NOT love her????
oodlsofnoodles2 January 2003
annabeth gish is my favorite actress. she, once again, had an outstanding performance!!! she is so sincere in her work, it is impossible not to feel a part of it! there's an amazing passion that screams out from her eyes and you can see she's REAL!!! there are a lot of fake celebrities out there and she is the most legit there is!!! SHE made the movie as best as it could be,,,the material was really weak and and the plot wasn't the best around, but i'd still buy the movie because she did an amazing job!!!

Absolutely one of the best
rhondajean3818 April 2003
movies I have ever seen....I simply loved the pairing of Annabeth Gish and Kamar De Los Reyes in this movie. They looked good together and danced well together. I can't imagine Annabeth not doing her best at any show or movie, but I have to say this was simply one of her best. I have to say that this movie deserves a big 9 and all of the stars in it as well...simply because I never say 10, no one is perfect. I would (okay I have) watch this movie over and over again. Romance at it's best right there on the screen.

Tremendously enjoyable
brenda_senanayake2 March 2003
This Sunday afternoon fare was very good indeed. The music, dancing, and representation of Hispanics in a positive light and not as the usual gang member, drug dealing, etc. was refreshing. It reminded one of the need for courage to be yourself and to follow your own dream not that of someone else. As to the actors, Kamar De los Reyes is quite the talent. His sensitivity and display of frustration not to mention his DANCING! What can I say but that his solo at the festival was incredibly beautiful. I would recommend it to anyone of my friends and will do so. Hope to see more of Senor Reyes in a leading role. Bring on the music!

Great music!
lalis99_200017 May 2004
I think the movie is good and the music they used is great! it's just one of these movies you watch when you have nothing else to do, but anyway they entertain you. just like I said, for me the best thing was the music.

I really like it, mostly because is latin music(salsa, merengue, etc) but in English. They dance really good and have great salsa moves! Oh, just a little question, maybe someone can help me! can someone please tell me what is the name of the song they dance at the end of the movie in the salsa festival? Thank you!!
