Sex & Nudity

  • Three sex scenes: One is very delicate, seen from a distance, lasting about 5 seconds, with no visible nudity. A longer, more erotic scene between a loving couple shows breasts and male and female butts. Marital sex is rebuffed in the third scene which includes similar content plus full frontal nudity of man and woman, but his privates are in deep shadow and hers look blurry and both are seen only fleetingly. Muffled sounds of sex are heard briefly in another instance.
  • One young girl tells another, with disgust, that she saw a man and woman "doing it".
  • Two men are said to be cheating on their wives, in one case resulting in pregnancy.
  • Women are seen in full-length slips a couple of times, and they discuss their body measurements.

Violence & Gore

  • A man slaps a woman in the face, a character holding a knife threatens suicide, and a drunk man threatens to hit a group of women.
  • There are a couple of scuffles without blood or serious injury.
  • A pet is thrown from a height and probably injured, but the impact isn't shown; a character is shown carried out on a stretcher, either injured by the thrown cat or just overstressed.
  • A man's death by heart attack is discussed.

Profanity

  • As English subtitled on VUDU, it's very infrequent: perhaps one or two exclamations of "damn", "hell", and "Jesus". Slightly more use of slurs: "bastard", "bitches" several times, "cows", "whore".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • One character smokes a pipe regularly, and cigars and cigarettes are seen a couple of times. One character was said to smoke, but not seen, and smoking in bed was referenced.
  • On multiple occasions alcohol is served socially. A group of homeless men drink rubbing (sic) alcohol that another character provides. One man is portrayed as regularly drunk and abusive; another man becomes drunk and abusive when things don't go his way.
  • No other drugs.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A couple of confrontations are intense, and are violent to varying degrees. It's mostly a very pleasant film, but more stressful near the end. As well as drama, IMDB lists it as comedy, and the number of homicides is small.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • This film is not, in any meaningful sense, a coming-of-age story. A girl's older female relatives briefly note that she is growing up. An older guy (20s ?) gives one extremely mild indication that he has noticed this.

Violence & Gore

  • Arson resulting in death is strongly implied.
  • A character behaving violently is hit in the head with a heavy object and dies. We see blood on their head and on the carpet.
