Shamed broadcaster Don Imus is set to return to radio after being axed for making highly controversial remarks on the air earlier this year. The long-running program Imus In The Morning was axed earlier this year by CBS Radio after the veteran presenter referred to players on the Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team with racist and sexist epithets But the show re-aired on Monday after being picked up by New York station WABC-AM, who have not announced the show's format but insist at least one black person will feature regularly, along with Imus' longtime news anchor Charles McCord. WABC-am's program director Phil Boyce says, "I don't have any doubt on his future. He'll obviously be wiser, smarter and a bit more careful. He's learned from this. I'm not concerned that he'll have a repeat." The program will also be broadcast on 24-hour network Rfd-tv, which hopes the 67-year-old will help the channel increase its viewership from 30 million to 50 million homes over the next two years. Patrick Gottsch, president of RFD-TV, says, "There is a real void in the morning with Don Imus not on the air. He's apologized heavily for the comments. He knew he made a mistake. You learn, you move on and I think most folks already have forgiven him."...

Don Imus has been hired by Citadel Broadcasting to host his own nationally syndicated radio program, confirming rumors that the shock-jock's exile from the airwaves was near over.
Imus will start his new show, together with his longtime newsman Charles McCord, beginning Dec. 3 at WABC-AM in New York City and on the ABC Radio Network, which Citadel has purchased from the Walt Disney Co., will handle syndication.
Citadel announced the new Imus show at the WABC Web site on Thursday and didn't respond to repeated requests for further comment.
"Don's unique brand of humor, knowledge of the issues and ability to attract big-name guests is unparalleled," said WABC general manager Steve Borneman. "He is rested, fired up and ready to do great radio."
The former "Imus in the Morning" program was famously canceled in April after Imus, while on air, called members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos."
The furor that ensued, stoked by women's and minority activists, prompted such prominent former guests of the show as Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama to publicly chastise the shock-jock.

NEW YORK -- MSNBC will move into its new facilities at 30 Rockefeller Plaza with a change in management, the third such change in a little over a year.
The news channel made several rumored changes official Monday with the news that Dan Abrams, who had replaced Rick Kaplan in June 2006, would return to the air to stay with a nightly primetime show. Taking over for Abrams will be Phil Griffin, an NBC News senior vp whose responsibilities also include Today and who is an MSNBC alum.
It also confirmed that Joe Scarborough, a longtime MSNBC primetime host who had taken over the spot in the channel's morning lineup with the canceling of Imus in the Morning in the spring, would get to keep the day job. Morning Joe will air from 6 a.m.-9 a.m.
In an interview Monday, Griffin said the changes wouldn't have come about if it weren't for the hole left by Imus' program that eventually spelled the move of Scarborough to the morning and the 9 p.m.

Shamed broadcaster Don Imus will no longer be sued for slander and defamation by a member of the Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team. Imus was axed from CBS Radio earlier this year after he called the mostly-black team a racist and sexist epithet on his radio show, Imus In The Morning. Kia Vaughn filed a lawsuit in New York last month alleging slander and defamation of character - but has dropped the case in a bid to pursue a career in journalism. A spokeswoman for Vaughn's attorney, Richard Ancowitz, says, "Her strong commitments have influenced her decision to withdraw the lawsuit at this time," the statement said. Imus' lawyer Martin Garbus confirmed his client had paid no money to Vaughn.

Shamed broadcaster Don Imus is planning a radio comeback after reaching a settlement over his multimillion-dollar contract with CBS. Imus was axed from CBS Radio earlier this year after he called the mostly-black Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team a racial and sexist epithet on his radio show Imus In The Morning. Imus threatened to sue CBS for $120 million in a breach-of-contract lawsuit but the two parties reached an agreement on Tuesday. The terms of the settlement have yet to be disclosed. Now Imus is in talks with rivals WABC-AM radio to resume his broadcasting career.

CBS radio bosses have followed NBC's decision to axe the TV broadcasts of shamed talk show host Don Imus' morning show, by axing his radio slot completely. The radio bigwigs initially suspended Imus, the host of Imus In The Morning, for two weeks after he made racist comments about the Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team on air last week. But, following national outrage that Imus has been allowed to continue broadcasting at all, CBS bosses have pulled the plug on the show permanently. CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Les Moonves says, "Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society - all races, economic groups, men and women alike. From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision." Imus made headlines after referring to the mostly-black basketball team by a racist and sexist epithet. He has since publicly apologized for his comment.

US radio talk show host Don Imus has been suspended from his Imus In The Morning show after making an on-air racial slur during his syndicated show last week. The disgraced presenter was attacked by his own bosses at WFAN-AM after a name calling incident directed at the players on Rutgers University women's basketball team during his Thursday broadcast. He apologized for his comments on Friday, but that didn't stop African-American leaders in America calling for his dismissal over the weekend. Imus appeared on Reverend Al Sharpton's radio show yesterday, where he apologized again and accepted his comments shouldn't be dismissed. The radio personality's suspension will begin next Monday.

NEW YORK -- Things are looking up at MSNBC, with the channel registering double-digit gains in viewers and adults 25-54 for October while Fox News Channel led all news networks for the 250th straight week.
Leading the charge was Countdown With Keith Olbermann, which jumped 67% in viewership and 61% in the adults 25-54 demographic compared with October 2005. Countdown averaged 637,000 viewers (including 233,000 in the demo) for the month, according to data released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. It's nowhere near The O'Reilly Factor (which led all of cable with 2.1 million viewers) but it beat CNN's Paula Zahn Now in the demo and narrowly missed tying it in viewership.
"Keith Olbermann is the right person at the right time, and doing it in the right way," MSNBC general manager Dan Abrams said.
MSNBC was up in viewers total day and primetime as well as in the demo in both total day and primetime. Scarborough Country remained behind Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" and CNN's Larry King Live, but was up 13% in the demo. The 7 p.m. edition of Hardball was up 27% in adults 25-54 and up 5% in viewers. MSNBC's Imus in the Morning simulcast gained some ground on American Morning, averaging 324,000 viewers last month compared with 425,000 for American Morning.
MSNBC is in the best competitive position in total day since April 2003 in the opening weeks of the war in Iraq. Abrams said the strength was almost completely across the board -- praising Joe Scarborough, Chris Matthews and Don Imus as well as Olbermann -- but he said he was also cautious.

Tycoon Donald Trump has become a father for the fifth time, after his wife Melania Knauss gave birth to a baby boy yesterday. The 59-year-old billionaire made the announcement in an interview on US TV this morning, just 20 minutes after the young Trump was born. The Apprentice star told MSNBC's Imus In The Morning show, "Everyone's perfect. I continue to stay young, right? I produce children, I stay young." The couple have yet to decide on a name for the baby, a younger half-brother for Trump's older offspring, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric - from his marriage to Ivana Trump - and Tiffany, from Trump's marriage to second wife Marla Maples. Trump married Slovenian model Melania, 35, in a star-studded Florida ceremony in January 2005, after a five-year courtship.
