Gripping and Exceptional
twanurit7 June 2002
The famous play within a play is now set in a television studio and is beautifully cast and directed, by Stacy Keach. The show being videotaped is interrupted by the sudden appearance of 6 people. Andy Griffith is compelling as the spokesman Father of the group, Julie Adams displays true anguish and despair as a widowed mother (her lover recently died), Beverly Todd is electrifying an an outspoken daughter, James Keach (the director's brother) is most convincing as an outcast son. Two children round out this most dysfunctional family, with Pat Ast fascinating as a weird employer. John Houseman is terrific as the TV show's director, giving the grim proceedings frequent doses of needed humor; his TV cast is also good. This is drama at its best, now available on DVD. Buy it now!

A brilliant adaptation

A brilliant adaptation of Pirandello's timeless play. Nothing is lost in Stacy Keach's modern interpretation.
