Can a show jump the shark on the first episode??
planktonrules10 June 2020
"Turner & Hooch" was a popular movie about a cop (Tom Hanks) and his dog (a Dogue de Bordeaux). Not surprisingly, some folks thought this would make a great television series as well...and "Turner & Hooch" (1990) lasted one single episode on TV! Why? Perhaps it was because the show tried a plot to attract an audience. Instead of just a dog...now the show introduces a sassy boy to the equation. This is a lot like on "The Brady Bunch" when they introduced Cousin Oliver in order to try (unsuccessfully) to breathe some life into a moribund series....but "Turner & Hooch" tried this ploy in the premier episode!! Never can I recall a show that seemed to jump the shark on the very first episode!

Thomas Wilson ('Biff' from the "Back to the Future" films) stars as Turner and he seemed to try his best. But the material here wasn't great...with sappy writing and a story that apparently no one wanted to hear. I can see why this one failed...it seemed really wrong-headed from the start. But, at least it didn't have a laugh track...which is why I am generous and giving it a 3.
