Eager to brave the extreme amounts of snow piling on every sidewalk and road in Park City, scores of freezing, malnourished, and often overworked film journalists and industry professionals line up hours in advance in order to secure a satisfying seat to that star-studded, Oscar-friendly, English-language stunner people have been raving about at every party or bus top around town. It’s understandable, they are desperate to become conquerors and be the first to plant their flag on the year’s big discovery. Trendsetting is a currency that in film criticism, like in many other occupations, is vital to acquire a certain level of recognition and validation.

Actress Amy Jackson is gearing up for a big release. Her Tamil film I boasts Vikram as her co-star with Shankar in the director’s chair and maestro Ar Rahman in the music director’s seat. Jackson recently appeared on Ashanti Omkar’s BBC Asian Radio Show to talk about the film and the music, and we have highlights!
Talking about the romantic thriller Jackson told Omkar, “I is visually splendid, there’s so much involved in one movie. You’ve got the action sequences, the comedy, the romance is there. It really covers a lot in one movie.”
Of course she had nothing but praise for Ar Rahman saying he is “an absolute wonderful music composer.”
A grand audio launch was held in Chennai and Amy and Vikram performed for not only the industry and the media but also Arnold Schwarzenegger who was there as a special guest. At...

You can conclude a lot about the mood of a commercial network by how it stages its upfronts presentation.
My abiding memory of Ten’s event last year was watching them handing out portable televisions from the back of a lorry. In the style of an episode of Oprah, everybody who attended got one as they left.
Watching drunk media types wandering into the darkness of Sydney’s Hickson Road with electrical goods tucked under their arms, the image that popped into my mind was of the looters at the London riots a week before.
This year’s event from Ten was a less over-the-top, slightly more considered breakfast affair.
Meanwhile Seven’s was the over-the-top one this year – complete with indoor fireworks.
Nine had a small event this week around its in-house branded entertainment and integration operation Powered. But its main TV season preview is still a few weeks away.

Cannes -- Oscar winner Shekhar Kapur will direct "Paani" (Water) from a script by David Farr, having secured the $30 million budget from Swarovski Entertainment and Adlabs founder-turned-producer Manmohan Shetty.
The project idea has occupied Kapur's mind for 10 years and, after pressure from fellow filmmaker Danny Boyle and Shetty's insistance that "he gets on and makes it before it's too late," Kapur plans to shoot in November with additional backing from Walk Water in Singapore, Dubai and on large purpose-built sets being designed by John Myrhe.
Boyle will get a producer credit of some kind for his efforts, Kapur said and the project also marks the first full-length feature backed by Swarovski's start-up entertainment arm.
A. R. Rahman has written two original songs for the project, Kapur said.
The project is a love story set in a mega city in a future where precious H20 has all but run out...
