The Most Controversial Violence Jack OVA.
c-conley9014 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sure Rape Town would probably would have not been a good title for this thing. Considering it happens a lot in it though. Hell Town's fine though.

The shocking second OVA in the adaptation of Go Nagai's rather grim series has Jack helping a group of models who live in a survivor community that is in three sections A,B,C. All of this underground. The first section is sort of civilized group of supposed normal men, but really they are just as evil as the 2nd section which is some kind of Road Warrior-esque gang that looks like they escaped from Fist of the North Star.

What comes next is a lot of disturbing stuff. But keep in mind this is suppose to be taking place during an apocalyptic earthquake that has leveled Tokyo. Grim stuff is going to happen.

And this OVA certainly is not going to shy away from even Child Murder in parts to show the grim reality of the situation.

The rape content is equally disturbing and there's even a added crop of cannibalism and necrophilia shoved in to make the OVA extra grim.

Which is of course why it was refused classification in Australia. And censored by Manga entertainment at first.

The most surprising thing about the acting of the whole thing, at least in the Japanese voice casting is the guy who played Jack in this one.

As usual the series of 3 OVAs cycled out Voice actors for Jack and this time didn't go with Tessho Genda who did it in Harem Bomber. But instead went with Kiyoshi Kobayashi. Now Kobayashi is actually more famous for playing Lupin the 3rd's famous right hand man Daisuke Jigen in Anime for years that it's kind of odd hearing his voice coming out of a ultra-brutal killer hulk of a monster like Jack.

Equally strange is the fact he would play the bad guy in the 3rd OVA not long after that.

"We meet again, General Cockroach."

"We meet again, General Cockroach."

Overview: Violence Jack 2 Electric Boogaloo.. What a trip. Our protagonist Jack finally finds his voice in this nonstop, brutal, shockfest of an OVA. The basic premise is still the same as the first movie: exploitative ripoff of a Mad Max world, only this time, much more emphasis on the exploitation. Let there be no questions about it: this OVA is strictly adults only. It has extreme violent sexual content and some grisly violence (this OVA is notorious as I understand, a sort of quasi Cannibal Holocaust in the anime realm.) According to my cursory Google search, it was banned in several countries at the time of release. (still banned in Australia, woot!) The sexual violence aside, nothing that should offend anyone over the age of 14. (If anyone under age 18 has ever even heard of this, I'd be about as shocked as a Maury Show paternity test recipient.)

Story: 5 Violence Jack is unearthed underground in a a pile of garbage (same place I found this OVA.. hmmmm) and then proceeds to deal with the three factions he meets in typical Jack fashion.. with extreme prejudice. We have something resembling a plot this time around: Jack meets a group of survivors trapped underground in a mall who have divided themselves into three sections, the Bros, the Models, and the Thugasses. Jack works with the Bros until he learns the super secret mystical conundrum that they'd been hiding the past 5 minutes: nobody is the good guy. Violence ensues, people die, somebody manages to walk away at the end.

Art: 7 A major step up from the first OVA, not bad at all for low budget 80's schlock. I especially liked the wire frame drawn fight from the end- added an element of cool to the otherwise Scooby-Doo level drawing.

Sound: 3 Nothing much stuck out to me. More cheeseball 80's D list porno music, with a bit of riffage here and there.

Characters: 4 Well, Jack finally gets to show off his much touted intelligence by... eviscerating anyone and anything in his way. At least he found his voice somewhere underneath that mall he was buried in. The other VA's are fine, nothing interesting enough to comment on.

Enjoyment: 5 Well, I'll admit it. I was shocked by the rape orgy scenes. It was pretty reviling in a can't-look-away way. There were some AWESOME disembowelments, complete with anatomically correct viscera, and at least a gallon of blood spewing forth. Head splits, face rips, and straight up butcher style slaughter- this film gives you what you want and expect from a movie with Violence in the title.

Overall: 5 Better than the first one, still not an objectively _good_ OVA on its own merit. They succeeded in shocking the audience with sexual content, necrophilia, and cannibalism combined with the odd ultraviolence. Violence Jack promises pain and delivers it with a jackknife to the face.

Action and guts, what else?
rob_studuk6 November 2002
This second installment of Violence Jack is probably the best out of the three. The earth has been obliterated by a meteor attack and a group of survivors build a small village called Hope Town. Everything is peaceful until a motorcycle gang 'Hell's Wind' attacks killing and burning everything in sight. Enter Violence Jack who rips a few of them to pieces to get warmed up while the others run scared. Jack is also aided by a girl who survived an attack from them in the past. The film continues to show Jack killing this motorbike gang with some fantastic gratious violence with his Jackknife ending with a gory finale. If you are looking for a film that has more guts and violence than a plot then this is what you should watch!!

The Very Definition of Insanity and Immorality
jenkinsfamily-101098 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen plenty of crazy anime over the course of my life; these range from "cutesy weird" to "OH MY GOODNESS, THAT'S SICK!!" Violence Jack is the pinnacle of the latter. In the beginning of the video, a few men dig up this giant ogre-like creature who is an amnesiac, and the man asks them to call him "Violence Jack". Then when Jack is introduced to section B, the women of section C inform Jack the men of section A raped them in their sleep. Then the video shows this prolonged mass-rape scene you'd normally find in extreme porno works. Jack joins section C and section B starts killing everyone in section A. What follows is the most brutal and mindless act of extreme graphic violence and mass-killings unlike anything I've ever seen. Section A starts to commit mass-rape again (cue more porno rape scenes) and Jack kills nearly everyone. Then the leader of section B graphically cannibalizes his transvestite girlfriend and mutates into a giant red devil (eh?). Jack kills him and everyone left alive escapes. You understand what I'm getting at? I'll make it simpler: The story is razor-thin at best, the characters are severely discriminating to both men and women, and the entire video is just a flimsy excuse for watching shameless amounts of extreme, gory, disgusting violence and gore. Please skip it.

Ultraviolent 80ies Anime.
Wetbones1 July 2004
Based on a manga series by Go Nagai that ran from the mid-70ies until 1990 and amassed a total of 9000 pages, HELL'S WIND was the third and to date last anime adaptation. I have the complete manga series in Japanese box set that includes the entire run in 18 volumes. The HELL'S WIND anime is based on a story that appears in the second volume.

Even though there are a number of differences between the manga and the anime the basic story remain the same.

A woman travels with her male companion and is ambushed by a gang of bikers - who call themselves "Hell's Wind" - who brutally kill the man and rape the woman. Years later the woman, who miraculously survived the abuse, has turned herself into a hardened fighter. When the same biker gang attacks a village she tries to get her revenge. Violence Jack, the mythic hero from Nagai's manga, also joins the battle. His name comes from the huge jack knife he uses to fight and as the finale reveals he's somewhat of a supernatural force as well. Like so many of our favourite 80ies action heroes (Schwarzenegger, Stallone etc.) in their best films, Jack is judge, jury and executioner all in one.

VIOLENCE JACK, no matter in what incarnation, does its name more than justice and HELL'S WIND is no exception. In fact it features some of the most unpleasant and excessive gore and torture ever animated and even veterans of such other "anime nasties" as FIST OF THE NORTH STAR and UROTSUKIDOJI should consider themselves warned.

The quality of the animation may not be up to today's standards but for an anime that is almost 20 years old and was produced for the straight to video market it is still quite impressive and hold up well. I have heard a few people complain about the "bad dialogue" but I attribute that to the English dubbing by Manga Entertainment. I own the Japanese DVDs and I couldn't find anything especially bad or wrong with the dialogue at all. It fits the story and the voice actors do a good job.

Of course this is hardly an anime for everyone. It's aimed at gorehounds and fans of 80ies action movies like RAMBO, ROAD WARRIOR, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and TERMINATOR as well as their cheesier (often Italian) knock-offs. If you're a fan of all that is cute and wholesome stay far, far away...

bad anime
The screen dweller9 July 2001
Violence Jack is back ! and this time our brave hero has to do battle with the deadly hells wind ! in this exciting tale of action and.........oh forget it. Violence jack is horrendous i was only joking. sorry for getting any ones hopes up.

As with the first violence jack we get more bad character designs, more bad dialogue , more stupid action sequences that annoy rather than thrill..... basically everything that made the 1st one rubbish is present and accounted for here so i dont really need to tell you about how bad it is. Nor do i have to tell you how unappealing the central character is . Do your self a favour and watch a good anime instead , there are tons to choose from .
