Sunny Deol's only good film from 1998, though very clichéd

Sunny Deol acted in several films in the 90s and this decade was a good one despite flops and a few disasters. It has certainly a better decade than the 2000s as there he just flops and flops as an actor. Deol was mainly a good actor from 80s and 90s who messed up his career in the 2000s though he also had some good films in the 2000s too. Zor released at the time when the 90s was getting better as his most recent films from 1996 like Jeet, Border, Ghatak were super hits. From 1997, his Ziddi was a blockbuster. Zor released at 1998 and the film was an average grosser at the box office. The film was good but was heavily criticized if not critically panned. The film is good though very clichéd. The film has many good scenes including the comic ones with our heroine Sushmita Sen but many scenes are poorly edited. An action scene starts and suddenly without any explanation, the film moves to another portion of the story and then comes back to explain. This is the film's main weakness as the viewers can get confused. The action sequences are limited and this is a good thing as too much mindless action proves to be the main weakness of Bollywood films. The main story is well narrated, well written if only the editing was better. Sangeet Sivan is another unknown director who makes his debut with Zor impresses. However,the script lets him down because of several rough patches. The music is OK, there are basically 3-4 songs and 2 of them are good the others are just fillers. Sunny Deol is the main reason to watch the film, he brilliantly handles his role as the journalist trying to uncover the conspiracy. His explosion in the climax at the court is excellent and nobody could shout out better patriotic dialogs than Deol himself. Sushmita Sen has a medium sized yet good role. Though she has limited stuff to do, she does well and doesn't overact in comic sequences like her horrible role in her most recent No Problem. Anupam Kher is good as the widowed father of Sunny, he even does good in his emotional roles and when he attempts to suicide, it looks realistic and not made up like in most Bollywood films which lack emotions. On The Whole, Zor is another Sunny Deol flick which works even being labeled as an average grosser thanks to some brilliant performances but the biggest letdown is the editing!

Zor (Hindi for 'Force') is a decent action flick. Sunny plays this journalist, who will eventually uncover a big conspiracy, in which his father (Kher) is framed for. Sunny finds some hidden truths in this, and he does the action very well. His outbreak in court in the climax instantly reminds you of Damini from '93, and this goes to patriotic terms. This is a decent movie overall, if not the best. If you watch this movie, do it for Sunny Deol. He rocks no matter what, as he is truly the 'Force' as the title itself suggests. Everyone else gives in decent performances overall, but as usual, the movie belongs to Sunny Deol. Enjoy! 8/10.
