Pretty good show with a good message for kids

Warning: Spoilers
Pelswick is a very good show with lots of funny moments. The characters are all unique, and although Goon's voice can be a tad annoying sometimes, he is still a good character. Pelswick's Guardian Angel is one of the best characters in the show. Whenever he is on screen you can be sure that something funny is going to happen. Besides the jokes, this show also has pretty good messages that even some adults could learn from. For example, the first episode is all about not taking offense on behalf of others without knowing how they actually feel about it. This has happened quite a few times in recent years, with people automatically assuming that something is offensive to BIPOC people without getting any of their input. With that, I believe that more people should watch this show as it gives a different perspective to the world, one that most people won't experience: What it's like to be disabled and how others treat you for it. This show teaches people to treat disabled people just like you would treat any abled person. Overall, this show is funny with interesting characters and even has messages that adults can learn from.

This is one of the best shows Ever
peacemaker-720 September 2006
I started to watch this show by accident, but I love it. The fact that main character is in a wheelchair is something that lacking in television, especially for kids shows. My five-year-old nephew (as most children do) would just stare at people who were in wheelchairs or had some other type of handicap but after he watched Pelswick it just seemed to be a normal occurrence to him. Every time he saw a wheelchair he would simply say "Like Pelswick" and go on with what ever he was originally doing. And YES the animation is a little crude, but if you can stand to watch through the first season of the Simpsons then this isn't that bad. The "Genie" is actually an Angel who is there to help Pelswick learn lessons in life. He CAN NOT walk some else said he could walk some of the time, I've seen every episode and he never to my recollection walked, he is a paraplegic he has no feeling below his armpits (he mentions it in an episode). As for the humor if you can get a copy of the "Ntalented" episode, which lampoons boy-bands, you will instantly love this show.

Good TV

"Pelswick" is one of those shows that breaks the mould of it's subject matter. Produced by Nelvana, the Canadian company behind the US versions of shows such as "CardCaptors" and "Medabots," it's about the life of Pelswick Eggert, a young boy who's paralysed.

But, you see, this is NOT one of those after-school special shows where he must overcome the trials and tribulations of living life in a wheelchair. The fact that Pelswick is in a wheelchair has NOTHING to do with the show. There have, to the best of my recollection been roughly TWO episodes where the plot has had anything to do with his disability. All the rest of the time, it's a simple (albeit ker-ay-zee) story about teen life.

"Pelswick" totally passes by the disability aspect, and instead tackles the other aspects of teen life in an always-amusing manner. Various episodes have dealt with normal things like crushes, as well as as boy bands, trading card phenoms (an obvious swipe at Pokemon), freedom of speech, and other, more bizarre things such as pyramid scams.

Pelswick is aided - or more normally hindered - by his guardian angel, Mr. Jimmy (voice of David Arquette). It's an utterly bizarre addition to the story, but Mr. Jimmy is one of the funniest characters in the show, up there with Pelswick's grandmother, "Gram-Gram," and the school's eccentric principal.

"Pelswick" is the brainchild of John Calahan. Calahan himself is a dark-minded quadruplegic, which only serves to make "Pelswick" more enjoyable, as he is not afraid to make jokes about disability. For example, in one episode, Pelswick is trying to expose a phony psychic. The psychic tries to impress the townsfolk by saying "I see... an accident!" when looking at Pelswick. When asked for confirmation, Pelswick rolls his eyes, indicates his wheelchair and says: "No! This thing's just an elaborate belt buckle!" Indeed, one entire episode (one of the rare ones where Pelswick's disability is the focus of the story) is dedicated to how it's okay for jokes to be made about "differently-abled people" if the jokes themselves are being MADE by "differently-abled people" - an obvious statement on Calahan's position.

I also recently saw an episode of another of Calahan's creations, the name of which escapes me, but it's about a collection of disabled people living together. It's a more mature story, for adults (one of the characters is just a HEAD), but in one scene, the character with the broken spine is under a car, attempting to repair it, and remarks, "This is harder than I thought! I have no idea what I'm doing... AND I'm completely paralysed!"

Aaaanyway. "Pelswick" is bizarre, whacked-out television, that I urge you to watch. It's funny, and it's original. John Calahan has my deepest respect, and I hope that more shows will follow in the footsteps of this one.

Gods gift to man kind
This is a cinematic masterpiece truly above any other thing ever created. True art. God created this show in his own image Pelswick is God if god was a handicapped youth in a wheelchair. Gorgeous animation matched with brilliant writing and storytelling. Both hilarious and emotional.

Not as bad as you would think

This is a pretty good show. It may seem weird if you see a commercial for it, but when you actually watch the show, you will see it is weird. But that is far from a bad thing with this show. It has a good variety of characters. I recommend this show. You'll probably enjoy this show. I know I did.

Hilarious and Original

Once in awhile, a show comes along that is distinctly different from ones that have come before it. "Pelswick" may just be one of those.

It's a children's half-hour cartoon show produced by Canadian animation company Nelvana about a 13-year old boy and his odd misadventures. Oh, and another thing, he's paralyzed.

Now, the unique thing about this is this is *NOT* the point of the show. In fact, it is barely mentioned. "Pelswick" strives to show that a teen in a wheelchair is just the same as a "regular" teen. Pelswick is in every way like a regular boy-- he has a crush on a girl at school, draws cartoons during class, and deals with the school bully.

Most of important all, though, is this show is *HILARIOUS*.

Through it's obscurity and unique humour, "Pelswick" is certain to entertain not only children, but people of other ages as well.

John Callahan, the creator, is a genius. I'd reccomend anyone to watch this show. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. ;P

"Pelswick" is unlike any show I have seen before. This show is really funny and creative, as well as entertaining. It's about a 13 year old boy, who happens to be in a wheelchair, and his life at school. This show has got all the stock characters: a crush, a bully, and two hilarious best buds. I give it an A+

If you have seen this show, you probably thought "This is weird". So did I. This show is good, but weird. The guardian angel character is weird. Pelswick's grandma is insane, but watching her in action is pretty entertaining. You might enjoy this show, but might think this show is weird.

I give this show a B.

Weird, but good.

This is one of the best cartoons on t.v. that seems as though it's being overshadowed by portions of Nickelodeon's other lame programmming (Rugrats, Spongebob, Catdog, and Wild Thornberries come to mind). Pelswick's guardian angel, and his grandmother are the funniest characters on the show all the way! The show may not be a Dexter's lab, or INVADER ZIM, (2 shows i also recomend!)but it's still worth checking out though it's a little weird.
