An outstanding performance by a legend.

Even at 82 years old, Victor Borge is still bringing the house down. I first saw this video a few times back in 1991. Last night I saw it with my wife for the first time since then and it's still very entertaining. Borge not only is a great pianist, he really has an inspiring stage presence that appeals to most everybody. The only problem with this video is that the sound could be mixed better in some places, which is why I only gave it a 9 out of 10.

Dry Wit & Musical Genius!
Sylviastel17 August 2014
Victor Borge had the longest running one man show on Broadway with almost 900 performances. Victor Borge was a legendary pianist with a dry wit. This hour long plus show features his classic routines in storytelling and jokes. The moment where he plays a Danish lullaby is quite touching and moving. Although I did find his humor too dry at times and maybe dated, I found him best at playing the piano. This concert was performed at a theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota. PBS stations sometimes still play this performance to viewers. If you never heard or seen Victor Borge, here is your chance. You will see introducing Mozart; My Favorite Barber; introducing singer Marylyn Mulvey; Aria from "Rigor Mortis" by Joe Green; the timid page turner; inflationary language; Sahan Arzuni with the 2nd Rhapsody by Fliszt; Salleri Opera; and a Danish Lullaby.

Combination man

I think it has been at least 8 years since I first watched Victor Borge. I cannot even begin to write all of Victor's talents. In just 80 (or so) minutes, he shows he is master of classical and crazy music, intellectual and slap-stick humor, and pure, people genius. At least for me, Victor connects with his audience. I think only my Grandpa has ever lost interest (went to sleep) when watching... and that was when Victor played Clair de Lune all the way through- go figure. I have two dvds of Borge, this one, and Victor Borge: Then and Now. They each have parts that are similar (ex. Phonetic Punctuation, Mozart Opera, etc.) but I still wonder how Victor comes up with so many acts. Everything he does is brilliant. I love his humor even though it takes me a month to figure out some of it. He is so quick.

I think most people would find Victor Borge extremely entertaining. The dvds are perfect for anytime. I don't think no one is too old or too young for Victor's acts.

I know that no one is perfect and even Victor has drawbacks. The most obvious with the two dvds I have is that they are not the greatest sound and picture quality. Possibly no one thought they should take time to improve the DVD quality since few people even know who Victor Borge is. Also, there are a few times when Victor seems to forget his next words but it is rare.

This is probably the best DVD to get to know Victor. If you do not know Victor, you should. I voted 10 out of 10 because the overall combination of such amazing talent blurs out the bad DVD quality.

An amazing, one of a kind entertainer

There was no one like Victor Borge, and this particular DVD, The Best of Victor Borge, shows you why: Beautiful piano playing in all styles, classical, popular, you name it, a great comedy act performed with perfect timing, and a warmth that's hard to describe.

This unusual man hailed from Denmark and escaped the Nazis when they came into power in Denmark while he was playing a concert in Sweden. He was able to travel to Finland and then to the United States. Later, disguised as a sailor, he returned to Denmark to see his dying mother. Borge later founded the Thanks To Scandinavia scholarship fund in gratitude for the heroic deeds of the Scandinavians who, while risking their own lives, saved the lives of thousands of people during the war.

Some of his comedy is legendary - falling off his chair when a singer sings a high note, giving sheet music to audience members and then saying, "That will be $1.50," his story about Mozart, asking late-comers why they were late, playing the Minute Waltz with an egg timer - all priceless.

Definitely check it out - it's fantastic.
