Sex & Nudity

  • Martin and Barbara have sex on a secluded area of a beach, Martin is seen thrusting slightly, but nothing too graphic.
  • in one scene, Barbara is seen giving Martin a bath, but only rear nudity is shown.
  • martin is seen urinating on a tree, but nothing too graphic however.

Violence & Gore

  • Martin gets Alzheimer's disease and as the disease worsens later in the film he has depressive episodes and sometimes behaves disrespectfully and/or violently towards Barbara.
  • in one scene Martin and Barbara are swimming in the water just off a beach, Martin begins to have difficulty swimming, he disappears underwater before surfacing and dragging Barbara underwater with him. they are seen sinking for a few seconds, but both are rescued afterwards.
  • Martin shoves Barbara at one point when she tries to stop him from wandering, he no sooner after this breaks Barbara's violin, she becomes very angry and slaps him repeatedly.
  • the most violent scene is at a birthday party where Martin is seen urinating on a plant and when Barbara tries to stop him, he then begins to grab and beat her repeatedly. he has to be restrained and forced into submission once by others and again after a doctor arrives and he is given a tranquilizer shot.

Profanity

  • this film is in Swedish with English subtitles, however there is still some moderate swearing words including 1 F word.

  • some drinking occurs throughout the film

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Martin's Alzheimer's disease has a very realistic look and feel in the film and may be upsetting and frightening to those who either are getting dementia or those who know someone who has the disease.
  • Martin's dementia is not a serious problem at first, but as it progresses, it begins to greatly afflict the relationship between Martin and Barbara and is at one point so severe that Martin has to be placed in an assisted living facility
  • the swimming scene where Martin drags Barbara underwater can be intense.
  • also the scene where Martin becomes very angry with Barbara and hits her repeatedly could be quite upsetting to viewers.
  • towards the end of the film it is implied that Martin is dying.
