Satyajit Ray, after watching the film, commented "Singeetam Srinivasa Rao has created a love scene around a dead body". He appreciated the film and Kamal Haasan's performance.
It was seen as a bold move in the industry that a huge star like Kamal Haasan would do a silent/dialogue-less film at the peak of his career.
The Hindi Version of this movie is known as Pushpak, and the telugu one is famous by the name Pushpaka Vimanam, the grand chariot of King Ravana from the great epic Ramayana.
This was the first dialogue-less Indian film after the 'silent-era' of the cinema.
Pushpaka Vimana/Pushpak, along with Nayakan, saw the beginning of a new phase in Kamal Haasan's career where he started regularly experimenting with his films, changing his looks, bringing in new technology, writing his own screenplays and, most importantly, playing the kind of characters that would usually be rejected by anyone with a stardom.
