What was he thinking...
DesiBaba14 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
With his last name I am surprised that he would even touch this kind of movie. It is an all around cheaply made, low quality film. It is a typical formula movie where the entire plot is predictable. The actress looked like she was in her mid 30s. I doubt if she did any other movies besides this one. She did not appear to be fluent in Hindi either based on her dialogue delivery. Farida Jalal in her mom's role acted really well, so did Paresh Rawal. But the rest of actors and the movie itself is worse than mediocre. No wonder AB Jr had a rough start in Bollywood, picking scripts like these would kill anyone's career. Music is also terrible, not one decent number. The comedy actors in the movie are largely wasted. Avoid at all cost!

Average Time pass film
bobcreature21 August 2000
The first film I have seen of Abhishek. His acting was average. It was not helped by a poor storyline and lack of a well known heroine to boost the interest factor. Nice views of Agra / Taj Mahal. There were too many songs (I liked one of them).

Picture Perfect!
Sherazade5 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This film is titled 'Picture Perfect' at our local library, I think it's weird that they didn't use its Hindi title because it took me a while to find it on IMDb but anyhow... My sisters didn't like this film, they said it was too corny and too tacky but I enjoyed it. This was Abhishek Bachchan's second film following his debut in Refugee (2000) and he shines thoroughly. It's sort of a cliché character now when you look back at his body of work so far. The typical "girl dreams of boy and boy (wherever he is) knows and is so sure of himself that he will get the girl in the end" storyline. But I give the film props because it's old and heartwarming.

That trouper known as Kirty Reddy made her debut in this film, and you can see that she did not just develop a penchant for whining along the way in her other films, she had it from the beginning, in fact, her incessant trademark whiny voice borders on annoying in this film, but thankfully she is a good enough dancer and has cute enough lines to sustain her performance as well as her audience. It was a good debut and she held her own against the likes of Junior B, Johnny Lever (who is a classic riot in a dual role as Maggi the sidekick of Reddy's character as well as a cross-dressing telly show host), Paresh Rawal (hilarious as usual as Kabir's foster parent) and a host of others. The main story revolves around Reddy's character, who dreams that she will win a major award someday and her dream guy will arrive in a Mercedes Benz and sweep her off her feet someday. This turns out to be true but the guy in the Mercedes Benz is far from what she has been dreaming about. Bachchan plays a boy named Kabir who lives in Agra and believes that Agra is only famous for two things; The Taj Mahal and himself. If you're gagging right now, you have every right to do so. I laughed my head off when Kabir actually did a song number about his fame/infamy and the Taj Mahal. If only he wasn't dressed so much like a fashion disaster. Perhaps, he was famous for his tacky wardrobe, who knows.

Anyhow, the two characters meet when Reddy's character comes to Agra for a wedding. Kabir falls instantly in love with her but she doesn't notice this. After the wedding, she returns home of Mumbai and when a mishap at work almost gets her fired, her sidekick Maggi (Lever) steps in and lies that Reddy's character (Pooja I think her name was or Priya) got engaged during her trip to Agra and presents a picture that she took with Kabir to their boss. The boss apologises and doesn't fire her anymore. Now, they are stuck with a fake engagement and no groom. During the course of all that hoopla, her dream guy appears in the form of her boss's son and sweeps her off her feet, she then plans on telling her boss that she has broken off her engagement to Kabir, only to find out that not only has Kabir come to Mumbai, but he is also the hero who rescued her boss from a mugging on the same day. Every lie she tells after this, only makes her family and boss like Kabir even more and she is stuck with the dilemma of how to let Kabir know that she doesn't love him, tell her boss that there's no engagement, so that she can be free to love his sinister son (played by Sanjay Suri). The songs were cute as were the dances and the backdrop was nice, especially the scenes shot on location at the famous Taj Mahal.
