A true icon and legend in the world of entertainment, actress Shelley Duvall has passed away at the age of 75, her longtime partner Dan Gilroy tells The Hollywood Reporter this morning.

Shelley Duvall is of course known here in the horror world for her all-time-great performance in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, playing opposite Jack Nicholson as Wendy Torrance.
Duvall got her start in the 1970s working with director Robert Altman, making her debut in the 1970 film Brewster McCloud. She went on to work with Altman on McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971), Thieves Like Us (1974), Nashville (1975) and 3 Women (1977), as well as Woody Allen in...

She last graced the screens in 2002's "Manna from Heaven" as Detective Dubrinski. Now, a little over 20 years later, renowned scream queen Shelley Duvall has re-entered the chat in Scott Goldberg's "The Forest Hills," set to release this month. This feature film is a take on Goldberg's 2007 short film of the same name, but that appears to be the only similarity as of right now. The 2007 short, alternately titled "Danielle's Revenge," takes place in Kentucky and is centered around two horror website admins in search of an urban legend.

After revealing to Dr. Phil on Friday that she's "very sick," Shelley Duvall is getting the help she asked for.
Watch: 'The Shining' Star Shelley Duvall Looks Unrecognizable, Reveals Mental Illness on 'Dr. Phil': 'I'm Very Sick'
The 67-year-old actress is currently receiving support via a GoFundMe page launched by none other than the daughter of revered filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. Kubrick directed Duvall in her iconic role opposite Jack Nicholson in 1980's "The Shining." His daughter, Vivian, created the support page for Duvall the same day as the Dr. Phil tell-all, and as of Saturday, the campaign has raised $16,000 of its $100,000 goal.
"Like many older movie stars, embarrassed finances is not uncommon," the page reads. "Showing your love and support for Shelley Duvall by making a donation can start her back on the road to independence and perhaps back to health and for her fans, more superb performances!"

Shelley Duvall’s blood-curdling screams of terror in the climax of The Shining are an indelible part of film history, and the leading lady of the 1980 horror classic went on to work in everything from comedies to children’s television shows in the decades that followed.
The actress, now 67, has stepped away from the spotlight in recent years, but that hasn’t diminished the imprint she’s left — those curious wide eyes, that high-pitched voice, her signature slender frame — in films like Popeye and Annie Hall, and in her collaborations with auteur Robert Altman (Nashville, McCabe & Ms. Miller, 3 Women).

As the great Ed Harris once said, “You gotta take a side.” And this year, you’ve got to choose between “The People v. O.J. Noah Hawley’s second season was even bolder than his first, but we’ve got to stick with our TCA pals and back “The People.” Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski’s anthology did what many deemed impossible by making O.J. relevant again, and the craft applied to...

A complicated curiosity about a reclusive actress.
Two of the most intriguing characters in Robert Altman’s Nashville are Tricycle Man and L.A. Joan. When considered together, it’s a wonder Shelley Duvall didn’t wind up becoming the female equivalent of Jeff Goldblum. She should have had a long career playing eccentric but charismatic women, just as he has done (in male roles). But that kind of thing works out better for actors than actresses. So instead, he wound up starring in movies where he fought fictional aliens, and she wound up a recluse gossiped to be living in fear of aliens that are in her body.
It’s been a while since I thought a lot about Duvall, outside of regularly enjoying her in many of Altman’s films, including 3 Women and Popeye, plus Annie Hall, Roxanne, and of course The Shining. I hadn’t seen her in anything new in forever, but...

A review of tonight's The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story coming up just as soon as I notice the smell of mint julip and condescension in the air... One of the more impressive aspects of The People v. O.J. is how generous and empathetic it's been. There are certain figures from the trial — O.J. himself, Shapiro, the Kardashian kids — for whom the show can't really disguise its contempt, but for the most part it's dug deep to find the humanity inside all these characters whom media coverage of the case long ago turned into cartoons. It looks at Marcia Clark and Chris Darden, for instance, and in no way excuses them for the blatant and easily avoidable ways in which they bungled the prosecution, but it also shows the many complications they had to deal with due to gender and/or race, the insane circus atmosphere of the trial,...

Things are not looking good for the prosecution in the O.J. Simpson case. That's a weird sentence in 2016, but if we pretend we don't know how this all ends, tonight's People v. O.J. Simpson, "Manna from Heaven," might have clued us in. As Ron Goldman's poor father said at one point, this is now a case about police officer Mark Fuhrman, his terrible opinions, and his habit of using terrible slurs, instead of a case whose main goal was once to bring justice to murder victims. After the defense was tipped off to the existence of tapes in which Fuhrman repeatedly uses the N-word, both sides were thrown into a tailspin. Cochran got Judge...

James Valentine is just "one of the out of focus guys" in Maroon 5, but the 33-year-old guitarist would like to keep it that way.
"Frankly, I’m just glad that I don’t have to deal with all of this s--t that [Adam Levine] has to deal with," Valentine told The Huffington Post. "I can go places and do things that I want to do. The other night, I went to the movies with Adam, and it was a s--t show! People were everywhere! Everyone wanted a photo with him, and it’s insane. That would be very hard for me to deal with."
Maroon 5's fourth studio release -- out Tuesday -- is called Overexposed, and it's symbolic in many ways. In recent years, Levine went from being the frontman of a chart-topping band to being an international superstar, after the success of NBC "The Voice," of which Levine is a celebrity mentor.

I was invited to attend the Dr. Phil show last week to offer commentary on their feature story about a young and beautiful woman who had a tale of unsettling circumstances in regard to her Hasidic background. As the Dr. Phil show unfolded, I listened intently to a young woman named Pearlperry Reich (aka Pearl) who, at the age of 17, was betrothed to a man for whom she was clearly unsuited at her parents' discretion and against her will. Pearl shared claims of sexual, emotional and physical abuse by a husband who had never trusted or loved her. Pearl depicted herself as a desperate woman with four young children trying to escape an abusive and loveless marriage -- distancing herself from the Hasidic community of her childhood in an attempt to seek her own path as an actress and a model. Pearl purported that her husband was so...
