Enjoyable, imaginative animation with weird action and sense of humour

A young man creates a computer virus with the intention of it entering the student loan company's records and wiping out his debt. The virus is an a hand that enters a library of books protection by eye balls and anti-virus syringes. Can the hand infiltrate the security to wipe out the debt?

I wasn't sure what this was when I taped it – but man I'm glad I did. This start weird – it's hard to jump from real footage to footage of a hand with an eye on it's finger fighting an eye ball with a hand. But once you get into it, it becomes funny and imaginative. The action is clever and quite funny to watch as the action is generally in fact. The end is a little sad but it's mostly very good.

The graphics are great – OK it's not Toy Story stuff – but comparing the budgets Infection shows what can be done – you don't always need big bucks. Writer/director Cunningham is currently doing computer graphics on Lord of the Rings with Weta Digital – hopefully he keep making the shorts when he gets a chance.

Overall this isn't one of those arty shorts with hidden emotion etc. Instead this is clever, inventive and very different. It may be a little weird – but for a film that only last just over 8 minutes to be this rewarding – it must be good….and it is!

A most excellent piece of art.

The visuals and the details are simply amazing. No wonder that it went to Cannes as a competitor for best animated short.

My favorite parts include the free-cell playing security eye and the emulation of John Woo. You can really feel the pain the syringes experience as a result from a beat down by a disembodied hand.

My highest regards.

Infection is THE BEST cgi short film I have ever seen.

Infection is based on a student who is trying to erase his student loan by creating a computer virus.

James Cunningham has brought his computer generated characters to life in such an exciting and realistic way that you can only leave the theatre thinking 'wow'.
