Ignore the Haters
jmcnamara-114 September 2006
Lately there have been some people taking some huge jabs at this show, Shin-Chan (mainly known as Crayon Shin-Chan in Japan and internationally). From what I've seen on Adult Swim, it was actually quite refreshing.

The amateurish designs of the characters (hence the original Japanese title) are a part of what got me into it, since a lot more than what you usually see in anime, and the writing for it is air-tight, mostly because a couple of people who worked on "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" were involved.

The scripts may not be as close to the original as most people would have wanted, but since it's a comedy series, and usually involves jokes involving culture, most of the script had to be altered to match the similar jabs at our culture so it can be funny.

Let's hope that Shin-Chan will eventually become a regular running series on the Adult Swim line-up soon, and that it will be there for the long run.

Hilliarious even if it's different from the Japanese version.
emasterslake31 December 2008
Shin-Chan is about a kinder-gardener named Shin Nohara who has the mind of a high schooler. He's trouble-making, vulgar, and a real brat. Besides those characteristics, he lives with his family who find him to be a real pain in the shins whenever he's around. Everyday is something different for Shin when it comes to playing games with his friends, being flirted by a rich girl, or trying to collect the merchandise of his favorite action hero.

Despite the DVDs only containing the English version. Shin-Chan is one of those fewest anime that are watchable even if it contains English text edits and in-jokes on today's media. These were done so that way the show can survive the increasing anime industry in America. I'm not sure if it'll last long if it the English Dub was more true to the original version. I only seen one episode of Shin-Chan in Japanese which was still funny but less humorous than the English dub. One day we might get to see the Japanese version along with the English dub on DVD. For now the DVDs are the only way to see this anime.

Like the second Lupin III anime dub(which only had 79 out of 155 episodes), this anime has in the cheek humor. You'll be hearing jokes on various American movies, TV shows, and occasionally some recognizable anime titles. Along with Godzilla and Kamen Rider in-jokes that'll guarantee to tickle your funny bone.

If you're old enough to watch TV-MA material anime then it shouldn't be a problem for you to watch Shin-Chan. Cause there's a lot of swearing, and boy nudity in it.

An Anime series to remember forever
mahim-9207226 June 2019
Showing a story of a 5-year-old kid in association with both reality and animation.A excellent comedy series related to our life, showing a child's life olong with some unreal and mistery things too for drama.Although the movies were not great, but the episodes are awesome. But the kindergarten part could be more strong. Finally - Well done the voice artists. This series can make anyone's childhood worthwhile.

A very funny show
au_law20017 April 2005
Ahh, yes, I remember this show, I watched it sometimes back when it was airing here, it was a very funny anime that seemed very different from the rest of the popular and over-hyped series here, but nonetheless it was also a very popular show to a lot of people. The animation may not look very colorful like most popular anime shows but the humor is what makes it great, Shinnosuke or Shin-chan is like the Japanese answer to Bart Simpson or Stan of South Park, he gets very much in trouble with his parents like the time he got lost and went to a police station bothering the cops and citizens reporting sexual harassment, I also like the one where he messes up the restaurant they were in. I used to watched this on RPN until it was replaced by the Nick toon shows, they are fine, but I wish they would still air this. I see the movies based on this sometimes on BS WOWOW, so it's proof that this show is still good out there. Oh yeah, the Philippine dubbed version has Andrew E., a popular singer here in the Philippines, he voiced Shin-chan, but I believe he did it perfectly and not too cheesy.

Great Show, Love the Voice Actors
forsakeneliza11 April 2008
So at first, I thought what a stupid cartoon. The anime is horrible, do they expect us to watch such an ugly cartoon. But all it took was one episode to make me feel so foolish. This cartoon is awesome, especially for a mature family to enjoy together. I don't watch it alone. I watch it with the entire family. It's a lot more fun that way. I fell in love with Misty's voice. She is amazing and all the characters are funny and play perfect roles. Yes, this cartoon isn't for everyone, but those that get it will adore it. Basically it's a very funny show that reveals the truth about being a parent. It's really good, give it a chance if one episode doesn't change your mind, then you're not missing out and probably are a child to not fully appreciate it's humor.

one thing I like about shin chan is how it feels like a kid show with adult jokes. lol crazy huh?? it just honesty feels that way. the music, the parents, it's an adult show with a childlike feel. well, it surrounded with young kids who are way too mature for their ages. and in every episode there's a sex joke. but on some episodes there's a story with a valuable lessons. it's a warm hearted show. and I love it with all my heart. another thing i find quite strange about this show is there's five year olds talking about sex! now that's messed up! my favorite character of the show is shin. because shin is really perverted but he has a kind soul as a child. he's like an adult child. so, what are you waiting for? go check out shin chan!

A funny show despite its poor quality
Terrorantula7 March 2014
Shin Chan is a funny show if you can look past its poor quality. Sure Shin Chan (and a few other voices) sound like a 40 year old woman holding her nose and the animation is a pretty strange style, but its still got a funny mix of witty and shocking one liners, and innuendos if you're into that. There are lots of jokes in every episode and you have to admit, there's some good tunes in there. (The stalker song is super catchy!) Its the kind of show thats best to watch in order, or it can be hard to understand all the jokes, even with the occasional recaps. Unfortunately the show just sort of ends and the final episode is easily the weakest, really just not a good note to end on, but still an entertaining show overall if you give it a chance.

Shinchan, the mischievous and lovable protagonist of the popular Japanese manga and anime series "Crayon Shinchan," is undoubtedly a character with a unique charm that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. With his innocent appearance, distinctive hairstyle, and trademark red overalls, Shinchan has become an iconic figure in the realm of animated entertainment. While his good-natured personality and endearing qualities make him a beloved character, it is essential to acknowledge that Shinchan is not without his share of idiosyncrasies and less-than-ideal habits.

On the positive side, Shinchan's charm lies in his childlike innocence and unfiltered honesty. His genuine, carefree demeanor often leads to heartwarming moments that resonate with viewers of all ages. Shinchan's infectious laughter and boundless energy can brighten even the gloomiest of days, creating a sense of joy and lightheartedness within the narrative. His unwavering love for his family, especially his mother Misae, adds a touching element to the character, showcasing his softer side.

Furthermore, Shinchan's curiosity and adventurous spirit contribute to his overall positive image. He approaches life with an open mind, always ready to explore new experiences and face challenges head-on. This fearlessness, coupled with his ability to find joy in the simplest of pleasures, encourages audiences to appreciate the beauty of life's small moments.

However, amidst the endearing qualities that make Shinchan a beloved character, it's important to address some of his less favorable habits. One prominent aspect of Shinchan's persona is his penchant for mischief and rebellion. His disobedient nature often puts him at odds with authority figures, especially his school teachers and the stern, but well-meaning, Miss Yoshinaga. This rebellious streak, while intended for comedic effect, can be interpreted as a negative influence, particularly for younger viewers.

Shinchan's love for mischief is further exemplified by his tendency to engage in inappropriate and cheeky behavior. His knack for making crude jokes, often involving his posterior, raises eyebrows and can be seen as a departure from conventional standards of polite conduct. While this is a deliberate stylistic choice by the creators to inject humor into the series, it does prompt concerns about the potential influence on younger audiences.

Additionally, Shinchan's insatiable appetite for sweets and snacks, particularly his love for chocolate and his favorite snack "chocobi," highlights a less-than-ideal dietary habit. This aspect of his character, though amusing in the context of the series, may inadvertently send mixed messages about healthy eating habits to young viewers.

Furthermore, Shinchan's lack of interest in academics and his nonchalant attitude towards his studies can be viewed as a negative influence on the target audience. While his carefree approach to life can be endearing, it may inadvertently downplay the importance of education, potentially sending the wrong message to impressionable minds.

In conclusion, Shinchan is undeniably a good-natured and lovable character with qualities that endear him to audiences worldwide. His innocence, curiosity, and adventurous spirit create a character that resonates with both children and adults. However, it is crucial to recognize and address some of his less-than-ideal habits, such as his rebellious nature, cheeky behavior, unhealthy eating habits, and disinterest in academics. While these traits may contribute to the comedic and entertaining aspects of the series, it is essential for viewers, especially younger ones, to approach them with a discerning eye and an awareness of the boundaries between fiction and reality.

A very good show.
avneelshishodia29 October 2019
This show is just amazing, animation is not that good but the freshness of plot is extraordinary. It is way better than Indian animated shows. Every story is different and not only children but adults and teenagers can also enjoy this show. Ignore the haters and tell them to watch Chhota Bheem.

moluscolikowski30 January 2021
This show is lame and the artstyle and the animations are ugly. I've never seen such bad animation ever in my life. If you have bad tastes then you can watch it. But if you're normal stay away from it. I wish i could give it 0 stars.

Extremely Funny, Crazy
damar_cahsolo30 August 2002
When the first time I watch this TV -series, I can't stop laughing. Even though it was already being censored, it's still extremely funny ( The comic/manga is more crazy and dirty). Too bad I can't see it anymore since I moved to New York. I really miss it, this is the funniest cartoon I ever see, more funny than Spongebob Squarepant.

I grew up with this show and found it very funny. I rewatched a bit today and am suprised how vuulgar it is, but in such a way that only adults will understand. It's amazing and brings a lot of old memories back, but at the same time it feels like a complete new show with new jokes.

All outstanding, just the Hindi version...
shikhapuffin20 March 2022
I gave 10 stars to the makers of Shin-Chan. The popularity of Shin-Chan shows that even a normal family's routine could be amazing. I just want the voices of the new episodes of it to be dubbed in their original voices in Hindi. Except Kazama, Himawari, and Yoshinaga, all other voices are changed. As from me, the voices were at there best during when Himawari was born and when their house was blasted. It seems oil and water that the original voices could match the actions of the characters.

Worst dreck since Super Milk Chan
offers-930 August 2006
If this could be rated 0 out of 10, I'd do it.

You might say I've been biased because I'm watching the version on Adult Swim. And you might be right.

But, simply, this is the worst program since Super Milk Chan, which I also thought was pure dreck. If you thought Milk Chan was good, you'll probably like Shin Chan. But, hopefully, Shin Chan will have the same length of run or less.

Summary of the show: Child with dirty mouth, with parents with dirty mouths, try to make you laugh by finding how many obscene comments they can get away with. Novel and original scripting? Maybe. But it's nothing but the animated equivalent of toilet humor.

Wake up Williams Street, before you lose all your audience with craptastic shows like this.

Great Anime Series
swdarin16 July 2002
It was airing in Japan and on Kiku TV, a local TV network in Hawaii. It was on at 7pm and all the episodes are subtitle in english. First there was Bart Simpson, then there was Beavis and Butthead, and now the next mischief making youngster in TV history is Shinosuke from the longest running anime TV show Crayon Shinchan. Shinosuke is a only 5 years old and he's only in Kindergarten, he's even a perverted boy who likes to flirt at tall beautiful women. And his mother is only 27-years-old Shinosuke makes her go crazy. It was a great TV series, Kiku TV somehow recently stopped airing the show here in Hawaii.
