Sex & Nudity

  • One of the movie's main themes is adultery. However, there is little nudity and no graphic details.
  • A man is a gigolo. He kisses and then has sex with a married woman; her husband interrupts them. The gigolo is naked but only his bare chest is seen.
  • A man gets out of a bathtub; he is initially naked (nothing is seen) but then puts on a towel, so only his bare chest is shown.
  • Men are seen in a brothel. The prostitutes wear alluring clothes. Moaning is heard in the background.
  • A man and his wife talk in bed. They are both clothed. He implicitly tells her they could have sex, but she refuses.
  • A man strips down a woman; her breasts are briefly seen, but not her nipples.
  • Churchmen's secret sexual activities are talked about. A churchman asks a woman to get down on her kness, implicitly asking her to give him oral sex; she refuses.

Violence & Gore

  • Two men have a sword duel. A woman shoots one of the men, who then is meticated for having a couple of bullets in his butt. The duel is serious but the aftermath is comedic. There is no blood in this sequence.
  • A woman is flogged and then branded (no graphic details).
  • Another woman is hung (offscreen).
  • A man, while talking to a woman, menacingly mentions a girl getting killed, cut apart from her pubis up to her throath.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A woman has a discussion with a man. She pulls him against a railing, which breaks, and he almost falls.
  • Marie Antoinette is burnt in effigy in the streets by people.
  • Occasional intense and dramatic scenes, including: one chase, an execution, a woman being flogged and branded, a man jumping off a bridge in a river, and one pheasant hunt; all are brief.
