“Sentinel,” by Hollywood legend Phil Tippett, and “Sister Inconnue,” the first solo directorial outing of Rkss’ Anouk Whissell, cold well be two highlights at a 2024 Cannes Frontières Platform that looks set to underscore the robust range of genre as it is embraced by Hollywood, big independents, horror devotees and auteurs alike.
Creator of creatures for “Star Wars” and “Jurassic Park,” Tippett may have terrified more people than anybody alive. If a teaser is anything to go by, “Sentinel,” a project, may well pick up on the style of 2021’s experimental and nightmarish stop motion/animation “Mad God.”
“Sentinel” features a battleground reminiscent of WWI hellish horror, giant bugs echoing “Starship Troopers,” Tippett’s last big job, attack droids and the statuesque figures of Osiris, Horus and Anubis, the last of which saves the hero, the gas-masked Sentinel, from a gruesome battlefield.
Sure to be a huge draw, an expanded version...

IndieWire asked dozens of filmmakers to put together a list of their favourite 80s movies, and the results are as widely varied as the decade itself. Which 80s movies does Bill Hader hold dear to his heart? What are some of Nia DaCosta’s favourites? Can Edgar Wright actually contain himself to just ten movies? What horror movies of the 80s top Eli Roth’s list?

It’s Evil Dead Week as director Lee Cronin will see his brand new movie Evil Dead Rise (read Bloody Disgusting’s review here) open in theaters this Friday.
Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead 2013 was one of the bloodiest films I’ve ever seen in my life and this new sequel appears to be following suit. It’s going to be a total bloodbath…
In this exclusive clip, a mother and her daughter are trapped in an elevator as a pool of blood floods in. To make matters worse, Deadites are crawling in from above, chanting “Dead by dawn,” a callback to Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. The clip ends with the elevator doors busting open and Tons Of Blood splashing out, an obvious homage to The Shining.
Meagan Navarro raves in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “A fantastic pair of leads in Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland, combined...

If you think two independent, ultra-gory, unrated horror movies getting a big(ger) budget third sequel made by a major Hollywood studio sounds unlikely, then let me remind you of a little movie called "Army of Darkness?" Strange but true — the follow-up to "The Evil Dead" and "Evil Dead 2" (subtitled "Dead By Dawn" if ya nasty) is a lightly-r-rated affair that sees hapless hero Ash (Bruce Campbell) thrust into a fantasized version of the Middle Ages, one that tones down the gushing blood and bodily dismemberment of the prior films before replacing them with rampaging skeletons and exploding catapults ... and it was made by Universal Pictures.
It's a sequel that is equal parts expensive as it is expansive, especially for a franchise that began as the quintessential "cabin in the woods" horror film. In addition to Universal footing the bills for the movie, they were also in charge of distributing and marketing it.

Hello again, dear readers. Right now, we’re living in unprecedented times, and it’s nice that, if nothing else, we still have entertainment to help us through all of this. Most of us are preparing for another month of self-isolation and thankfully we have a ton of horror and sci-fi titles hitting various VOD and Digital platforms throughout the month of April. Also, I decided to feature some special streaming events here as well, beyond the regular digital releases we usually get, as I thought it might be helpful to have as many distractions as we could possibly get over the next few weeks or so.
Later today, the Salem Horror Fest is hosting a virtual premiere for Mass Hysteria over on Facebook Live and the very next day, Shudder’s new series, Cursed Films, kicks off with their first episode on The Exorcist. The next installment of Blumhouse’s Into the Dark series,...

National Geographic has produced a new series that seems like it will be really fun, crazy, and unique. They created a horror-inspired nature series called Dead By Dawn, and it “will focus on the ‘terrifying real stories of life in the wild.’”
The six-part series uses aspects of the horror movie genre to tell these dark tales in the animal kingdom. I have a trailer for you to watch today along with a clip. But before you get into those, here’s the synopsis:
Dead by Dawn delivers captivating and excellent visuals and storytelling while audaciously leaning into classic horror folly and memorable, distinctive soundtracks alongside suspenseful nature stories that begin just before sunset and end just after sunrise. Each episode features wildlife in a different country, from Costa Rica to Indonesia to the swamps of the USA. Once the sun goes down, creatures of the night battle for survival.

Jodie Fisher has become best known for her involvement in the sexual harassment scandal that prompted Hp CEO Mark Hurd to resign from the company. At this point, it may seem like a career footnote, but as the after-effects of the scandal reverberate -- the letter she wrote that led to his ouster was made public on Friday -- Fisher has begun to act in small movie and TV roles.
This fall, Fisher guest starred in an episode of "NCIS: Los Angeles," playing a woman named Emma White in an episode about a former Navy Intelligence officer who turns out to be living an illegal double life. She also had a bit part in the re-imagining of the classic Peter Fonda film "Easy Rider," in which she played a bartender.
Prior to this mini-renaissance, and before she began a career in consulting and marketing that would eventually lead her to Hurd,...
