A fun Anime series
Gonzo_Knight10 November 2003
I've seen a few episodes of this anime series. The episodes I saw were subbed and like it always happens with anime they are much better then the dubbed version. The series is about a guy named Kain Blueriver, who always wears a cape and is very good with his psi blade that looks a lot like a light-saber, his green-haired partner Canal which is a holographic representation of a their spaceship Swordbreaker's computer (she gets very touchy when somebody points out that she's a computer). There's also a girl named Millie, who is a terrible cook and always has explosions in the kitchen. She also has a dream of becoming "the best in the universe". She's a pretty good shot, though. Together they take on all kinds of weird assignments and travel to distant planets. They are usually pretty desperate since they are often short on money. If this sounds a lot like Cowboy Bebop to you, than you are wrong. Cowboy Bebop this ain't. It's much more light hearted anime series with a lot of comedic elements in it. Anyway, it's a fun if somewhat inconsistent anime series. Episode #8 is especially funny. The visuals are pretty decent for a TV series just don't expect OAV quality visuals. The music is pretty good too. If you're looking for a fun anime series with some action/adventure elements in it I suggest you give this one a try.

Lost Universe
SoulfulFX10 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
'Lost Universe' is a futuristic anime series that has some connections to the same "universe" that contains the 'Slayers' series. The animation and character types are also related to 'Slayers' in style which will be immediately apparent upon viewing. The series also shares Megumi Hayashibara's vocals and if one watches the closing sequence of each episode, the connection to 'Slayers' is even more apparent when the chart of the monster race (going from Shabranigdo's minions on up to the Lord of Nightmares) flashes on the screen. The story revolves around a troubleshooter named Kain Blueriver who commands a holograph controlled ship named Swordbreaker. Swordbreaker is one of several "lost" ships from an ancient advanced race. Besides the ship's amazing abilities, Kain himself can wield a psi-blade that uses his own mental strength to take on opponents. The overall plot is not quite as off-the-wall funny as 'Slayers' was, but it still has oodles of comic moments.

Great show

Warning: Spoilers
This anime is in the same existence as the anime "Slayers", the general layout for this existence is that everything resides upon a sea of chaos, which is the creator of all things.

In this anime we follow Kain Blueriver, Cannal and Millie, a gang of 'trouble contractors' as they take on various jobs, more or less anything from finding a lost kitten to stopping worlds from being blown up, however the ultimate story of the series is that the dark lord of this universe is awakening and it's up to this.. scary bunch of some heroes to save the universe.

Details on the characters are : Kain Blueriver : A man who wears a mantle.. and if you say anything bad about his mandle, he'll kill you! ^^; He always has his trusted Psi-Blade with him, to those not too familiar with the world of slayers, it's a sword that kind of looks like a lightsaber, to those who are familiar with slayers, it is the same kind of weapon as Gourry Gabriev's "Hikari no Ken" Gorunova. His characteristics is that he's more guts than brains, but he's not a total brainless guy like Gourry, but he's more a man of action than a man of thought, he likes to 'quote' his grandmother a lot, like "Be nice to girls, nice advice my grandmother always said" and such.

Cannal : A hologram, she is the brain of the spaceship "Swordbreaker", a 'lost ship', rumoured to be the only remains of a superior ancient civilization, in reality, the lost ships are the 'gods and demons' of this universe, like Phibrizzo and Water Dragon King etc.. from Slayers --spoiler alert-- Cannal and Swordbreakers true identity is Volphied, the 'god' of that universe --spoiler end-- Cannals characteristics are... hard to describe, think of a noisy little brat of a girl who gets anything she wants, mixed with a real smartmouthed lady.. ^^; well, that and tons of others, you can more or less look at her as Lina Inverse (same voice actress as well)

Millie : A 'detective' put out of job thanks to Kain and Cannal, she always says she wants to be the best in the universe, in everything, she's a great cook.. but.. she blows up the kitchen every time she cooks (but hey, it's the best food in the universe :P), she can hit anything anywhere when she use a gun, and she's got a brain, unfortunately for Kain and Cannal, she's a bit of a spoiled brat sometimes, and.. slightly short sighted in thinking.. which can (and often do) lead to trouble for this insane bunch of heroes.

Swordbreaker : Cannals 'true' form, the 'lost ship', the spaceship of these weird heroes, not much is known about the ship, except that it disobeys all laws of motion, power, inertia etc.. and that Cannal is it's brain

My personal note about this series : Watch it, you wont regret it!

As for the artstyle, it is exactly the same art style used for Slayers, nice effects, nice details etc. A little notice is, if you're a slayers fan, keep your eyes open, in almost every episode there is something from the slayers world as an easteregg, the first one I ever noticed was in an episode where the characters were in a bar, and on one of the beer.. thingies, Lina's 'chibi' self was pictured, it was after that I started looking for details in each episode and in almost every episode I've seen 1 or more eastereggs from the slayers world

So all in all, I give this series 5 out of 5 on my own personal anime judgment, and as a personal note, this and Slayers are two of my most favourite animes of all time. This is a series you wont regret watching (unless you hate comedy), so watch it, now! :P

The best ending I've ever seen
jdtmaster2 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
the show over all was an 8/10, but what sold the 10/10 rating; was the ending. It was Canal's sacrifice that played out beautify, and with the emotional ties that we had with the character, and Kain also sacrificed himself to save Millie, Nina, and Rail. It can be argued that the show undid the sacrifice, but we don't see Kain or Canal when the ship arrives; only Millie knows if Kain and Canal are back. The music was well placed and fit the mood well. Especially the music box theme Embrace. it is an emotional piece that no other music box theme has touched; it embraces your emotions for what is next with the backstory. Every character is likable, and despite being a Si-Fi show, real and understandable. Even when Kain, Canal, and Millie were falsely accused of a crime; that stuff happens. all in all, I love this show, and highly recommend.
