Kevin Smith tells us how he wound up making Yoga Hosers, a movie about miniature Nazis made of sausage...
Among geeky film fans, Kevin Smith needs no introduction. He’s brought us such treats as Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma, and recently he’s had a massive resurgence as a giant in the nerdy podcast world.
So far, two movies have come out of Smith’s podcasting: first was Tusk, branching out from a SModcast episode about a Gumtree advert seeking someone willing to dress up as a walrus in exchange for lodgings. Justin Long starred in that one, with Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith featuring in the supporting cast alongside her best friend Lily Rose Depp and her famous father Johnny Depp.
And now we have Yoga Hosers, a spinoff from Tusk in which Smith Jnr and Depp Jnr’s Canadian convenience store clerks...

Ocsar Wilde championed the notion that life imitates art. He believed the old saying “results not merely from life’s imitative instinct, but from the fact that the self-conscious aim of Life is to find expression, and that Art offers it certain beautiful forms through which it may realize that energy.” Wilde was a miraculous writer and thinker. But sometimes the classic Aristotelian worldview he opined against proves just as accurate. Sometimes art imitates life. To my disgust, such is the case with Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier film and the history of the United States. Kind of.

If you’re reading this, you’ve likely seen it. Cap 2 made over 700 million dollars worldwide. It was a success commercially (still only fifth highest grossing of 2014), but more than that it was respected by critics for its political-thriller/espionage flare that set it squarely in our post-Patriot Act, drones at the ready,...

Much of history is open to revisionism, particularly when it comes to the matter of genocide. These acts are so terrible and frequently come with such a stratospheric body count that countries where atrocities were committed would rather look the other way and downplay that a genocide ever occurred. Or if it is recognised, it is not on as wide a scale as historians have postulated.
The 20th Century witnessed atrocities that were very extreme in nature and happened all over the globe. There has never been such a systematic, cold attempt by dictators like Stalin and Hitler to exterminate people in campaigns such as The Terror and The Final Solution. Despite this, only a tiny amount of genocides have been officially recognised by the Un – including Rwanda, Bosnia and the Holocaust. The perpetrators of other overlooked genocides seem to get away with it.
