The Prophetess Of Thebes (1908)

aka La prophetesse de Thebes

An astronomer (Georges Melies) creates a telescope that when you look into it you can see your future. King Thebes decides to take a look at his future and doesn't exactly get what he bargained for. When Flicker Alley released their "Georges Melies: First Wizard of Cinema" collection they included the various fragments of the director's work. This here is sadly one of the films that only exists in a fragment and it's a shame because the thing looks to be quite a bit of fun. There's just under two-minutes of footage available but you get a pretty good idea of what the director was going for. Whatever creatures are shown on screen should entertain horror movie fans and film buffs will enjoy the special effects used for the telescope to "show" its images. Hopefully one day a complete version will be found but until then at least we have this to see.
