The point has already been made in Trivia but there are at least two items on the ether purporting to be this lost film. Both are in fact the Edison film The Congress of Nations. While this may owe something to Méliès in its technique (Edison was copying Méliès wildly in film after film at this time), it is quite different in its message, being a piece of patriotic flag-waving. Méliès' film in fact shows sympathy for the Chinese, beleaguered and bullied by a shabby alliance of all the Great Powers (the US included).
