Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, has been crowned Miss Universe 2017!
The 22-year-old contestant beat out 91 other women to take the top prize in the annual pageant, which took place at The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday night.
Nel-Peters, the second-ever Miss Universe winner from South Africa, was crowned by last year’s winner, Miss Universe 2016, Iris Mittenaere from France.
The winner was decided by a panel of six judges, including TV personalities Ross Matthews and Jay Manuel, Ufc correspondent Megan Olivi, and Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach.
Beauty queens from the Philippines, Canada, the U.S., Sri Lanka and Jamaica made it to the final 16, before Nel-Peters took the crown.
The show was once again hosted by Steve Harvey, who poked fun at his infamous 2015 flub throughout the pageant, but had no trouble announcing Miss South Africa's title! See more in the video below.

Gillian Robespierre and Jenny Slate were one of the biggest indie breakouts of 2014 thanks to “Obvious Child,” which introduced the former as a writer-director with raunch and heart to spare and the latter as bonafide indie movie star and not just a one-season player on “Saturday Night Live.” The pair have reunited for Robespierre’s follow-up, “Landline,” which made quite the impression at Sundance this year and got picked up by Amazon Studios.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens star Harrison Ford will not be fined or lose his licence over his latest aviation mishap, Us federal authorities have said.
Ford, 74, has been under investigation for the incident at John Wayne airport in Orange County, California, in February, which saw the actor mistakenly land his single-engine Aviat Husky plane on a taxiway rather than a runway, passing over an American Airlines jet that was waiting to take off.
However, Ford’s lawyer, Stephen Hofer, wrote in a statement that the Federal Aviation Administration (Faa) would not fine Ford and the actor would retain his pilot’s licence without restriction.

“Landline” reunites the team who made Gillian Robespierre’s 2014 Sundance smash hit “Obvious Child,” but the films’ star and muse, Jenny Slate, bristles at the idea of the new film representing any kind of sequel.
“It’s not similar,” Slate said from the Sundance Film Festival. “‘Landline’ is not the same as ‘Obvious Child,’ except that Gil has a real knack for crafting characters that truly seem that they’re plucked out of our world, whether or not it’s a period piece or it’s taking place six months ago.”

On the morning of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, just a few days after the Academy Award nominations revealed another year of four categories of exclusively white nominees, Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith took to social media to tell the world that they would be boycotting the Oscars. “We cannot support it,” Lee posted on Instagram — with a photo of Dr. King in his cap and gown at his undergrad commencement. Lee wrote that he and his wife will not be attending the Academy Awards ceremony next month, though he means “no disrespect to my friends, host Chris Rock and producer Reggie Hudlin, President [Cheryl Boone] Isaacs, and the Academy.” Lee called out the four acting categories both this year and last year that launched the Twitter hashtag #OscarsSoWhite: “40 white actors in 2 years and no flava at all. We can’t act?! Wtf!!” (See his full Instagram post below.) #OscarsSoWhite... Again.

Update: Spike Lee clarified his comments in a January 20 interview on "Good Morning America," saying he's not calling for a mass Oscars boycott, he was just announcing his own plans to skip the show: "Here's the thing, I have never used the word boycott. All I said was my beautiful wife Tanya...we're not coming. That's it, and I gave the reasons. ... February 28th, we'll be at the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden. I'm going to a Knicks game." He reiterated that he's not telling anyone else what to do. "Do you. I'm not going. My wife's not going. Everyone else can do what they want to do."

"Chi-Raq" director Spike Lee announced today -- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day -- that he and his wife will not be attending the 2016 Oscars, due to the lack of any non-white acting nominees for the second year in a row.

To put it simply, Armin Van Buuren‘s sixth studio album, Embrace, is just about the best you could expect from a full-length effort released by an artist at his level of success. Let’s call it what it is: When you achieve the level of status that Armin has, you’re not just an artist anymore. You’re a full fledged enterprise, and there’s an entire team working behind the scenes to make you as profitable a commodity as humanly possible. That point where industry meets artistry on such a massive scale seldom turns out an artist’s most sincere work, but Embrace still manages to be genuine at all the moments that count.
Of course, that’s not to say that much of the album takes every opportunity to challenge the status quo. A discerning trance fan of yesteryear would likely scoff at tracks like his Mr. Probz collaboration,...

Explaining that the idea behind the effort is to embrace “different instruments” and “experiment,” he went into detail about how it’s been a very different and new experience for him.

For the next release on his forthcoming album, the legendary Armin Van Buuren has teamed up with DJ Mag’s famed Hardwell. As the second track on Embrace, “Off The Hook” is a brightly stricken tune that’s Dutch to the core.
Utilizing a cavernous kick and typical Dutch synth leads, the colossal duo has soldered components of trance and big room into one powerhouse release. A bit disjointed, the track builds and breaks into several disparate moments, though the trademark styles of both Hardwell and Armin are clearly displayed in the first and second drops, respectively.
The new song certainly gives the impression of being meant for the energy of a main stage rather than headphones, and couldn’t be farther from Armin’s work with Mr. Probz on “Another You.” While built on a solid foundation, “Off The Hook” is a good track, but doesn’t quite live...

There’s no denying the cultural magnitude of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 grindhouse classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Inspiring legions of seminal directors, as well as providing the framework for a growing horde of derivative copycats (not to mention a gaggle of flaccid sequels, prequels, and rehashes), it’s now reached its 40th year anniversary. Necessitating a half-year transfer process, the brand new 4k transfer was showcased at genre fests such as 2014′s SXSW & Fantasia Film Fests and a prestige re-showing at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. Though decades of horror films have refurbished Hooper’s methods to such a degree that the more infamous episodes of violence may seem less horrific by today’s torture porn standards, the film has lost none of its ambient potency. In all the glorious reconstitutions, no one has been able to outdo the gritty, grainy, and bizarre levels of unease accomplished here.
By now, we all know the well-tread story.

We all knew that there would be a new Blu-ray release of Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre back when they started screening a new 4K scan of the film in theaters, so when it went up on Amazon as a pre-order, it came as no surprise. However, shortly thereafter, something appeared on Amazon that intrigued fans, and came with absolutely no explanation. It was called the Black Maria Limited Edition, and cost $70.00. Now, a lot of us have already pre-ordered Scream Factory’s $80.00 Nightbreed set, so that kind of price for a single movie isn’t exactly unprecedented, but up until that point, not a single thing had been announced in regards to this set, so it has remained a mystery until today. A press release was sent out, detailing all of the specifics of all of the various releases, including a description, and photo of the contents of the mysterious Limited Edition.

The best movie culture writing from around the internet-o-sphere. Just leave a tab open for us, will ya? “Ten Lessons That We Hope 2013 Has Taught the Entertainment Industry” — Charlie Jane Anders breaks down the learning moments from the year…which will probably be ignored by an ossified industry. #3, #4 and #6 earn particularly loud cheers. “Criticwire Survey: Best Non-2013 Culture of 2013” — Landon Palmer shared in a similar exercise with his discoveries of the year. Here, a slew of critics and writers share what they found from days long past. “The Art of the Sell: Why The Wolf of Wall Street Lets Jordan Belfort Off the Hook” — Calum Marsh digs into the ethical dilemma of presenting a bad man as a badass. As G.O.B.'s favorite Europe lyrics go, it's the final countdown! At last we have reached our last in-depth recap of Arrested Development's comeback season, which appeared on Netflix a few months ago. We certainly took our sweet time sifting through the 15 episodes of the comedy's fourth season, and perhaps you did too, but whether you're still working on it or watching the season for the tenth time, here is what we've already (proudly) accomplished: Episodes 1-2: "Flight of the Phoenix" & "Borderline Personalities" Episodes 3-4: "Indian Takers" & "The B. Team" Episodes 5-6: "A New Start" & "Double Crossers" Episodes 7-8: "Colony Collapse" & "Red Hairing" Episodes 9-10: "Smashed" & "Queen B." Episodes 11-12: "A New Attitude" & "Señoritis" Episodes 13-14: "It Gets Better" & "Off The Hook" And without further adieu (drumroll please?), here's the rundown of the fourth season finale. Is it also possibly...

Paula Deen needs a black friend. Ideally, a beloved and respected African-American interviewer who will attest that she's not racist -- or at least nod sympathetically as Deen tears up during a come-to-Jesus interview. Does that sound cynical? Don't be naïve. Befriending a member of the group you're accused of hating is one of the all-time-great PR moves. Remember when Eminem joined hands with Elton John at the 2001 Grammys? Has anyone called Eminem a homophobe since? What do fishermen and pro wrestlers have in common? Tenacity, and a crazy streak rooted deep inside. Ask Tna and Animal Planet "Off the Hook" star Eric Young, known in some circles as "Showtime Eric Young." A self described "stump" of a man who is 240 pounds of pure mesomorph, the native rural Canadian proudly calls Nashville his home now. For his Animal Planet series premiering tonight, he is traveling the far reaches of North America and Hawaii embedding with teams of crack pro fishermen, every last one of them gifted with unusual techniques, to say the least. "All successful fishermen are tenacious, almost to the point of annoyance," laughed Young, who hosted M&C and other journalists...

While his parents and siblings might be the main focus of the story, it’s Buster Bluth that provides so many of the memorable moments in both the Arrested Development of the past and this new season, most especially in "Off the Hook."
In an episode that relied heavily on callbacks and tropes, we are reminded how much better the Bluths are when they are working together. At the same time. On the same screen.
It would be very easy to fall into a roofie circle when it comes to a character like Buster Bluth, repeating the same jokes ad naseum, because he doesn’t have much depth to him so it’s impressive that the writers were able to take this Motherboy and have 35 minutes revolve solely around him. I don’t know that is was a complete success because so much of what makes Buster, Buster, is his relationships.

[Spoilers for those who have not watched all fifteen episodes of Arrested Development's fourth season.] Of all the Bluths, Buster has the least amount of screen time in the new Arrested Development — the unfortunate result of Tony Hale’s commitment to his other show, HBO’s Veep. “I would have loved to have been able to do more, but scheduling was a little tough,” Hale said. Fortunately, Buster’s 35-minute chapter (“Off the Hook”) revealed many new sides to the youngest Bluth, who spent time motherless, back in bed with Lucille 2, back in the army, fitted with a big bionic hand, moving on to a new mother, who then became a lover … Vulture spoke with Hale, next appearing opposite Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock in The Heat, about Buster’s (too quick!) spiral out of control.Your nude scene with the sewing machine was very Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. In the seven years since Fox cancelled Arrested Development, its influence has not necessarily been as widespread as one might expect, given its rapturous cult following. A few series have attempted to emulate its heavily serialized approach to building and contorting gags over episodes and even seasons – Archer, in particular, springs to mind, as well as Community and 30 Rock, for those inclined – but for the most part, televised comedy hasn’t made the sort of evolutionary strides that drama and genre TV have been making over the same period. That Arrested Development is now the recipient of perhaps the largest-scale resurrection in television history would seem to make sense, then: as it has no definitive heir, its re-emergence in the 2010s doesn’t feel redundant.
The odds of the show returning at full strength, however, were always minimal. Seven years is a long time to preserve any comedy’s character dynamics,...

Vulture is doing fifteen immediate recaps for hardcore Arrested Development fans. Five regular Vulture writers will write on three episodes each. More in-depth analyses of the new episodes will appear in the coming weeks. And now we come to Buster. This season of Arrested Development was about what happened when The Bluths went their separate ways after Lucille goes to prison. Everyone becomes lost in his or her own way, but predictably, Buster takes it the hardest. "Off The Hook" was a fine showcase for Tony Hale that not only allowed him to show off many different shadings of Buster's oddness (from "puppy dog who can't take a hint" to "nude and muttering to himself" and of course "several-day-long videogame-slash-drone-pilot-binge and subsequent crash"), but also show some new sides to Buster in a way that seemed natural — which is no small feat for a character that is designed to remain...

Nightclubs never forget! On Feb. 15, Drake was told to take his party elsewhere by bouncers at the Hollywood nightclub Playhouse. The reason? Because Chris Brown and his crew were already inside. Click to read the whole story.
No bottles were smashed inside the Hollywood nightclub Playhouse all because a few promoters have good memories. They begged rapper Drake to go elsewhere because Chris Brown and his posse had already been seated at a table, and Rihanna was expected to arrive as well.
The Chris Brown/Drake Brawl That Playhouse Hoped To Avoid
The Drake-Chris Brown beef has simmered considerably since last summer, but Playhouse wasn’t taking any chances. No doubt, their no-entry policy towards the “Marvin’s Room” rapper was a safeguard against repeating what went down between the two stars at W.i.P. in New York City on Jun. 14, 2012.

Frank Ocean is not Chris’ prime enemy anymore. Chris and Drake are going after each other again — this time, in court!
Chris Brown and Drake are suing each other over their infamous nightclub brawl at W.i.P. on June 14 in New York City, which involved bottle throwing and facial lacerations!
A French model, Romain Julien, initiated the legal battle, as he filed a suit against Chris, Drake and the club for injuries he claims he suffered during the fight, TMZ reports.
And now, both Chris and Drake have filed their own legal documents, pointing the blame towards each other. They’re basically asking the judge to put the blame on the other. In other words, if the model wins his suit, Chris and Drake are doing everything they can to get the other to pay the fines.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Psychedelic Pill (Reprise)
A far better album than Young & Crazy Horse's shabby Americana from earlier this year, not so much because it's songs written by Neil (certainly nobody will be impressed by the rather feeble lyrics on display here) as that he stretches out and jams with the Horse. Really stretches out, as in tracks lasting 27:35, 16:48, 8:33, and 16:26 (along with five tracks in the three- to four-minute range). He quit drugs, but he didn't quit reaching for another state of mind; I'd even say that he may be using this music as his drug. The hypnotic trips he takes here make this his best new album in over twenty years, and one of his top five post-'70s albums. Pretty good for a guy who just celebrated his 67th birthday.
David Byrne & St. Vincent: Love This Giant (4Ad)
This could have been a style rip-off.
