Apparently the premise of this show is to illustrate how smug, egocentric, self-centered, and materialistic 20-somethings are. If that's the case, it succeeds beyond its wildest dreams. Planned Parenthood should use episodes from this show as training films; the moral would be, "If you have kids, they might turn out like this!" The men--for lack of a better word--are invariably totally obsessed with their bodies; many of them take their "dates" to a workout at their gym. They then spend most of the date strutting, preening and bragging about their sexual prowess, and can't understand it when the women don't laugh at, or even get offended by, their smarmy, juvenile attempts at double entendre. The women don't come across much better, either. They're either simpering bimbos or arrogant, balls-to-the-wall barracudas determined to show the guy who's boss and take control of everything from the get-go. If this is an example of the generation that's going to take over from us, then we're in worse shape than I thought.

Nasty
PWNYCNY5 August 2006
If you like to watch a show that confirms the utter hopelessness and emptiness of dating, and how dating brings out the absolute worst in people, then this is the show to watch. This show is about how men and women play games with each other and how dating is the ultimate waste of time and is utterly devoid of any redeeming social value except as proof of the hypocrisy associated with people trying to assert their dominance through devious means. The men are invariably portrayed as fools as they try to play up to the women who are arrogant, self-centered and manipulative and absolutely not worth the effort. This show is further proof that money cannot buy love as the men take the women to fancy restaurants where they engage in meaningless talk which sets the stage for the woman's rejection of her hapless companion. On this show every man is portrayed as awkward and socially inept while the women are portrayed as self-centered man-haters who basically have no use for their dates except to use them as a means of acting out their contempt of men.

Funniest show and a reason for...
Reno-0076 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Yes to continue my title this show is a reason to sign up with a paid service online. I found someone wonderful on a paid service and that is so much better instead of this silly show. For entertainment purposes Blind Date is absolutely hysterical. Case in point, they had a show last week where the "Hall of Shame" had one of the most obtuse and obnoxious idiots ever trying to swoon a lady who from the very beginning had no interest whatsoever in this jack ass. Even when they do the after interviews this woman plainly stated that she wouldn't date this dunce in this or any lifetime. Then aforementioned dunce said that he "won" her over and that he will definitely be going out with her again. But what stands out the most and I might add other comments very truly stated, is the absolute arrogance and stupidity of both the guys and the gals. Most of these dudes think they are God's gift to women and that the ladies are helpless whenever they are around their incredible charm. Most of the women are in-your-face whinny tarts who think that they'll find "Mr. Right" and when their expectations rightfully crash and burn they have this offish and ball crushing attitude. But the funniest is when the couples who obviously hate each other go off and it almost turns into fist to cuffs! Oh, and one more thing to add is the incredibly ridiculous and downright asinine things these people do on these dates. Are you kidding me? In no way would I go "go karting" or "skateboarding" on a first date. Other laughable romps include dance lessons, batting cages, paint-ball, tarot readings and massages. Hello producers, those are things that people do WHEN THEY'RE ALREADY IN A RELATIONSHIP! But all in all it does show the mediocrity that permeates the 20 something folks today. And as an earlier poster said that that is a sad look at the future if these nitwits procreate!

Blind Date TV
pomahatchd30 July 2007
I can't even begin to say how lame those thought bubbles are!!!Roger Lodge is usually so smug it makes me ill.Let us just watch the frigging' date without the VERY lame comments in those thought bubbles.I mean they are so bad,on the credits no one even wants to be credited with them.I wouldn't doubt if Roger Lodge did them thinking he was clever. Blind Date SUCKS!!!!!!!!Oh my gosh,I've got to come up with ten lines for this to be submitted.I guess I'll have to start with,How bad does this TV show suck?Let me count the ways. The smugness and downright unfunny Roger Lodge is just tough to watch.Tougher to watch are the very lame and unimaginative 'thought bubbles' which contain little or no thought. The dates themselves are not bad at all,I wish they'd just let us just watch the dates & let us make our own thought bubbles to ourselves!!I try watching entire episodes, but VERY rarely can take it.The ONLY thing that does is a really funny or great date, thats ruined by the lame comments inside the thought bubbles. On my best day I'd give this show a 2 or 3,but overall I can't,in good conscience, give it more than a 1 after tonights episode, which I fought to watch the whole 1st date.I can't believe all the positive comments I read on this train wreck of a TV show.Awful show!!!

Funny Dating Show!
dgordon-17 February 2007
"Blind Date" is one of the better dating shows to come on the scene in a long time. To date, my favorite dating show was "Love Connection", but "Blind Date" comes in at a close 2nd. It's a lot better than shows like "Studs", "The Fifth Wheel', "Elimidate" and the worst one of all "Shipmates". One thing that I've noticed on this show is the candidates that they choose for dates. I don't know where they get these people from! A lot of them just seem to be looking to get some booty. You would think that this would be happening with the young daters, but it seems to be right across the board, even with the older people. I know that most of the Producers of these shows love it when couples don't get along. This makes for better ratings and is more entertaining to the viewer...or so they think. It would be nice if some of the couples really connected, and not just for one night. In past episodes, when they do a follow-up on previous daters, none of them have lead to marriage, or even a long term relationship. Most of the follow-ups have been the same scenario. The couple will maybe go on a few dates after wards, then something comes up and the dating stops. The other point I've noticed, a few times, are the people that go on the show and they are already in a relationship! I assume they are thinking that some talent scout will spot them on the show, and make them a movie or TV offer. Guess what? That is not going to happen. To me, they end up making fools out of themselves when they do this. The other point it could be is that they are looking for the elusive BBD (Bigger & Better Deal). This is fine, but do they have to go on national TV and make a fool out of themselves? The host of "Blind Date", Roger Lodge, is funny. His sarcastic comments and facial expressions are priceless. He is no Chuck Woolery, but he does make the show fun. What really makes this show entertaining are the thought bubbles, and the animated characters that come on screen to show what the daters are really thinking. The "Fifth Wheel" tried doing this too, but "Blind Date" does a better job with it. Even though most of these dating shows seem to follow the same formula, "Blind Date" is entertaining and a lot of fun to watch.

The best "reality show"... period
zapdude5 May 2003
The premise is simple: the applicants create a video description of themselves, and the Blind Date team hooks them up. They choose from a list of "activities", then drive a special camera equipped vehicle to their date. After the activity is dinner, then a camera equipped cab ride to a bar, then a cab ride home.

The entire time, we are watching the couple interact. In post-production, they add in thought balloons and clever comments. When I first watched this show, I thought it looked stupid, but a girlfriend convinced me to watch. Now I'm hooked!

The best part of "Blind Date"? I'm not sure there is one. Sometimes you know they hooked up incompatible people, but in general I think they choose couples that look good on paper.

The very few of these dates that work, work well. You can visibly see the connection as it's made. But the majority don't work.

And why don't they work? Many reasons. Is it really true that most guys are so incredibly "on the make"? Some of these guys are absolutely pathetic in their attempts to get their "prize". Laughable.

And some of these women are shallower than a rain puddle. Several times I've seen some really nice, sincere guy getting totally sneered at by his "date" because he isn't wealthy or "attractive" enough.

I would say that this series says more about PEOPLE than any other "reality show". Instead of fake and contrived situations, this is just a low budget documentation of things that people DO in real life.

Seriously, there is no other "reality" program than can even come close to real life as Blind Date does. It's worth watching, it's even worth watching repeats to get details and nuances you may have missed the first time.

How To Ruin A Date
hillari10 April 2002
The best thing about this show are the "thought bubbles" and cartoon drawings that supposedly tell what the couples are really thinking. Those are very funny. I have to wonder though--where do they find some of those people? From what they say in the little intro before the cameras start following them on their dates, I get the impression that most of the participants are 1) sex obsessed, 2) have huge egos, 3) very immature, 4) lacking social skills, 5) crazy. Do they even want lasting relationships?

Have you any shame?
muttley7929 July 2005
I have seen this show several times, and it amazes me how shallow and superficial some of these people are. I saw this one guy tell his date that "you're not pretty enough to be with me!" right to her face! When tact was being handed out, this guy must have been combing his hair or flexing his muscles. I thought I had seen it all, until I saw another episode when one particularly attractive young woman jumped into a cab during her date, and the man literally chased the cab on foot yelling "We can work it out!" My goodness, don't you have any pride! These people can't be serious....wait, maybe they are!

In any event, "Blind Date" is a cool show, so if you're up around 1am, check it out!

Love, American Style for the New Century.
nycritic22 April 2005
A simple premise: a man and a woman talk to a camera and state the kind of partner they are looking for and add their likes, dislikes in and out of bed. Then they meet, and either have the best date of their lives and even open the door for a second date (which often ends up in some heavy action), or have some of the most dysfunctional, hilariously bad dates that the camera has ever seen, and those predictably end up inches away from a fist-fight... or in one audacious scene, the woman literally leaping from her date (which was on a boat) and swimming to shore, effectively calling it a day. While it is occasionally nice to see a date that doesn't go outrageously bad, it pays to see people make fools of themselves by putting themselves in the most embarrassing of situations while carrying out their quasi-date, and hearing Roger Lodge's wry observations at the beginning or end of these skits, and of course, the stars of the show are the often spot-on bubbles that "describe" what the daters might actually be thinking, especially in scenes of escalating awkwardness.

I Love This Show
TequilaMockingbird6329 January 2005
I wish it was on more. The "thought bubbles" are ingenious. hysterical! Who ever you have writing for your show I wish was my best friend. Without the thought bubbles the show would not be bearable to watch. I even purchased the "Blind Date Uncensored" video and i never buy videos I like the show that much. A fine collection of LA's best oafs, morons and Village idiots. Sometimes the dates work out and thats nice. But its amazing to see how many people will act like an ass on national television. Roger Lodge, keep up the good work! OK, I do have to ask one more favor from my room mate..., bring back the lesbian episodes they were great!

Oh those crazy youngsters

Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS CONTAINED IN THREAD**

its a show which features men and women doing what they do best, wooing each other and trying to get eah others attention. Between the thought bubbles which appear over the men and women and the craziness the men and woman put themselves through, you are left witha big bundle of mess. the best thing you can do is try not to look at this show as a dating tool and look at it for the car wrecks of blinde dates. Do not try to learn anything from this show about how to treat people or conduct yourself on a date. This show is entertainment and shold be thought of as such. Definetly watch this show, but do not try to think of this show as a blue print as to how to meet people. Also, check out rodger lodge in the movie, "not of this earth". He's great in that movie. This show gets a 10 out of 10 for showing the rock and roll california lifestyle.

Hilarious
Harrison-1518 June 2000
Blind Date is an hilarious show. The producers got wise pretty quick and figured out the dates would be more interesting if they paired opposites instead of people who might actually get along. Just watch, the results are among the funniest things you will see, and the writers do a surprisingly good job with their comments during the dates. Consult your local listings.

Ingenious combination of reality and written comedy
growler8625 December 2000
When the creators of Blind Date hatched their ingenious idea and convinced Universal they could produce it as a twice a night strip, that was the first victory. The second one was combining it with written comedy. Introducing a pure reality date with no pop-ups would have grown weary by the end of the 1st season, but, right from the first day of shooting the pilot, surely the producers discussed their vision and agreed they needed to give the public a double dose of fun. I never miss an episode this show sucks you in and never lets you go.

Hmmmm
randyw0119 June 2004
I watch too many of these dating shows; it creates images in my head that many people are going through life partly unaware of the impression they make, and are slightly clueless as to how they related to others. I need to remind myself that TV isn't true reality, since there can be much tinkering behind the scenes.

If we think of the contestants of this show being awful, what do we consider the ones on other shows ( where some feature more than two people leading to competition, extra insults/tension, bickering ).

Roger Lodge is a very good host. Many people on television ( not just dating shows ) just try too hard; they chatter a bit too much and use forced humor ( example: Jillian Barbarie of Ex-treme Dating ). Lodge tries go with the flow and does not force himself on the audience.

I have noticed contestants on dating shows who appear on more than one of them. It's a small, tiny, strange trend of current reality TV. Are these people obsessed with trying to be on these shows? Are they appearing simply because the producers of shows know each other and suggest contestants to each other? Who knows....
