The 2012 Us presidential election has laid the groundwork for data to lead the charge in the 2013 Australian federal election, but will the parties use it or lose it asks Richard McLaren.
The early election call from Prime Minister Julia Gillard has, unsurprisingly, already sparked much debate in our industry. Just how the two parties will plan and strategise for the many months of fierce campaigning ahead is yet to be seen, but in today’s online-driven world, the battle could be won or lost on the digital playing field.
With Barack Obama inaugurated for his second term as Us President just last month – on the back of a campaign that many commentators say was defined by the smart use of digital media and sophisticated data targeting – it’s clear we’re entering a new era of political campaigning.
More than 16 million Australians are now online, with digital and social media consumption at an all-time high.

Intensive “fracking” (when the earth is blasted apart to get at valuable minerals, oil etc in voids beneath the ground) opens up the ground around New Orleans and giant, mutant, albino spiders appear, intent on killing everyone they find. They turn out to also be able to shoot flames out of their mouths.
An assortment of local tour guides, bus drivers, militia-men and military types try to stop the tide of encroaching nastiness, but they are outnumbered and generally incompetent. And yes, before you ask, this is a Syfy production.
*****
Starring Edward Furlong and one of the aliens from Star Trek: Voyager, this was never going to be a high-brow affair. The above synopsis makes it clear that we are in silly territory, but this is so utterly incompetent a production, so joyless and witless a venture, so singularly lacking in anything resembling decent acting, photography, special effects or script-writing...

J.D. Souther Studio 201 July 21, 2012
Fans of '70s rock know John David "J.D." Souther's work even if they don't recognize his name. Linda Ronstadt, always good with a bittersweet ballad, made several of his highlights of her mid-decade LPs. Fellow Detroiter Glenn Frey and Souther hooked up again after both had moved to Los Angeles, and this eventually led to Souther co-writing several of the Eagles' biggest hits.
Those who do know his work swear by his output for the talented if commercially unsuccessful supergroup Souther-Hillman-Furay Band, and his occasional solo LPs offered his own versions of his songs made familiar by others plus plenty of "deep tracks." But after his fourth solo LP in 1984, he didn't release another one until 2008' If the World Was You. Fortunately he's kept his comeback going, and the opportunity to hear him in a very intimate setting arose thanks to a friend...

Co-created by Sackhoff and Sxv'Leithan Essex
Co-creators Katee Sackhoff and Sxv'Leithan Essex have given SuperHeroHype an exclusive look at the character design for Versus, their genetically-created antichrist wrapped in a Vargas girl's body.
Plans were to announce Versus at Comic-Con this year. So what happened? "Things got really crazy for the both of us with a few other projects which unfortunately took time away from Versus," says Sackhoff. "We wanted Versus to have an impact at Comic-Con and had some very visual ideas to make her seen but time became the enemy and we don't want her to get lost in the mix."
The image is drawn and colored by Essex based on the detailed discussions between the two of them. Essex explains: "We talked about everything to make her sexy but tactical. There's a reason why her suit looks so pin up doll meets assassin. Versus has a hidden...

AICN had a video up this morning called "Workin' Out with Sly." It's Sylvester Stallone mid-workout getting ready for his upcoming film The Expendables....this man puts other men to shame and I am digging the goatee.
Head over to AICN for the story and the Quicktime video, flash version is below, nothin' like lifting weights to a little Eagles!
Wait, due to copyright the audio has been stripped, head over the AICN to hear The Long Run accompany Sly and his weights.
At the end, he says "getting in shape can kill you" in true Stallone style.
