A cult cartoon with a 1990s feel
bhermann-4060831 March 2020
Already from the first episode, I was hooked, knowing this series would be better than Zevo-3. The show has a serious 1990s feel (it aired in 1999 and 2000). One of the major themes, other than government secrets, is continual media manipulation to cover up what is really going on. While the series seemed to drag on, perhaps too long, it does keep you interested nonetheless, with strong characters like Logan, Sh'lainn, Rinaker, Trueblood, Nema, Fitzpatrick, and Ti-Yet. The show is a bit of a cult classic, and the Wikipedia page an utter mess. I could say, sure, this is worth your time, but you need over 14 hours to finish the whole series, so getting through it takes time!

Mystery, Intrigue, Humor, and Quality Stories - Great Show!
CarlosRay194517 September 2015
This show is grossly under-known, and underrated. It has a lot going for it, and pays homage to the western myths, such as Chupacabra, Banshees, Lycanthropes, and Vampires. The show follows Nick Logan, who is on a quest to find his father. Along the way, he meets Sh'lainn; a Banshee who is alienated from her people. Together they investigate and capture other aliens, myths and legends. It is a great quality show, its only main drawback is in its occasionally poor art style. Some may find the dialogue poor, but it, to me, feels like 80's action films with funny quips and lines, often stating the obvious. An overall great show with a very small fan base. I would highly suggest it to anyone who enjoys sci-fi television, and 80's style action.

I Want To Believe: Complete Series Analysis
amiranda-3927417 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I never watched this show as a kid, I discovered this show by complete accident on the internet, and once i watched the first episode i was hooked and binge watched the entire 40 episode series. The show is a x files, men in black hybrid that utilizes the best aspects of those shows into one, really lamp shading on conspiracy and the truth. Aliens are the main focus of the show, but there is so much more to this show then meets the eye.

Story: The show's premise is that aliens have been living among humans for centuries, and were the origins of many of the creatures humans know from myth, folklore and legends, including Banshees, vampires, werewolves, golems, minotaur's and even a superhero! A secret organization known as the Alliance has the responsibility to keep these creatures a secret from the world, and are tasked with handling all kinds of threats that are alien related. Nick and his team are the first line of defense against these threats, but are also self aware that the alliance has become corrupt, which is why nick is trying to discover secrets that someone is doing their best to make sure he doesn't find out. While the show is mostly episodic, with every episode focusing on a new alien threat, there is a massive conspiracy happening that each episode provides a little clue to the bigger picture . Unlike most shows this one keeps its consistency despite a few filler episodes and absolutely delivers on every level in a epic finale, revealing all the answers to all the questions you will amass watching every episode and its completely satisfying to watch.

Characters:

Nick Logan: He is a bounty hunter, who becomes the Alliances greatest agent. He posses a vendetta against aliens, because as a child, his father disappeared during an unexplained alien encounter at Roswell, New Mexico. Nick was raised by his step-father, who secretly trained him to be an alliance agent and to fight aliens. Nick also has the rare ability to see through alien disguises and illusions ( which comes really in handy). To discover the truth behinds his fathers disappearance, nick becomes a rogue within the Alliance, many times not following orders, and taking many actions upon his own accord. This can make him appear arrogant and reckless at times. He's also very prejudiced against aliens at first, not realizing that many are victims themselves. He eventually decides to protect the aliens from the corrupt alliance, and try to discover the truth for ever conspiracy placed before him.

Sh'lainn Blaze: She is a beautiful banshee who believes humans and aliens should coexist together, unfortunately her people dont agree with her and try to kill her. While on the run she meets nick logan and becomes his partner. They have a great meet cute and begin a budding romance as they work together to unweave countless conspiracies and try to create peace between aliens and humans. Being a banshee, blaze has an armory of special abilities, including telekinesis, teleportation, energy blasts, and hilariously the ability to predict how much time Nick has to live. ( This happens a lot)

General Rinaker: is the head of the Global Alliance, he is responsible for staging the Roswell Incident. Rinaker is committed to protecting humans from the aliens among them and to preserve the secrecy of the Alliance at any cost. Throughout the series Rinaker displays prejudice against the aliens and desires to get them all off the planet, however that entails. Because of this he ends up budding heads a lot with nick and his other subordinates, but he always reminds them of the true threats they face and that he is a necessary evil. Speaking of which, it is quite obvious that he is the man keeping the most secrets and despite being in charge of the alliance, he is the most antagonistic person in the series. and his constant habit of playing with his keys will irritate you to no end.

Fitz: He is a master of BS, and is one of the most hilarious characters in the show. An Ex-CIA agent with a wild imagination and the ability to convince anyone of anything. Fitz's job is to cover up all evidence of alien activity or the existence of the Alliance. Despite his goofiness' he ends up being really reliable, and his loyalty to his partner, nema, is very heartwarming.

Nema: She's a weapons specialist who is Fitz partner and helps him with the cover ups. Very logical and practical but with enough of a sense of humor to play Fitz's straight man in their relationship, which does become more romantic as the series goes on.

Chief Trueblood: is the badass leader of the S.T.A.R. team and Rinnaker's right-hand man, tasked with capturing every alien, the alliance encounters. Despite being a soldier boy, trueblood is not afraid to do the right thing when the situation calls for it. Despite his loyalty to the alliance, Trueblood is also the chief of his native American tribe and is hiding his own secrets from the alliance.

Ti-Yet: is a Yeti and the second alien to join nicks team . His people were forced into slavery by the werewolves, but were able to escape to earth. Being the guardian of his people, he ensures their protection by becoming an agent of the Alliance and along the way a trusted friend to Nick.

There are so many other characters in the show that really make it something special, in fact even the most obscure extras in the show are revealed to be very important down the road.

Action: the series animation is not the most impressive, but it shines with all the action scenes, there are so many explosions and laser blasts that it really elevates the show. the aliens all have unique abilities and weapons, so of course the alliance has to get creative with their arsenal as well. Despite there being a handful of filler episodes, each one has excessive action with spaceships, monsters, and did i mention explosions already? ( yes, there's a lot of explosions!)

In Conclusion: The animation is not that impressive at first glance, but i am a sucker for hand drawn animation. The show does have a tendency to step backwards in development, such as logan getting over his prejudice for aliens in one episode, only to start hating aliens again the next episode. There are some dumb epsiode's that have nothing to do with the overall conspiracy and are only there to serve as filler. My main complaint is that all the episodes are too short, only being 20 minutes each, this can cause the story for that episode to be resolved too quickly, which is why i feel this show could have benefited better with 2 parter's, but i digress, the show does maintain its consistency with its plot points and characters, and delivers by the finale. Despite its flaws this show is still a solid experience, i didn't have much expectations going into this show except the alien concept, but i left gratified and wanting more. Theres news that there might be a reboot of the show this year, so here's hoping for more adventures with Nick, Blaze and the rest of the Alliance. Its safe to say, i would have loved this show as a kid, since i love it now as an adult, and if your a sci fi lover this show is for you. There are so many sci fi alien/monster movie references here (its a gold mine!) such as MIB, X files, Cameron's Aliens, E.T. When the earth stood still, even Superman! This show will make you believe in Aliens.

DVD box set PLEASE!
Steve R-210 August 2006
This series was great. The basic premise is that all the myths and legends of western culture like vampires, werewolves, banshees and the like are all actually species from different planets.

The two main characters are a detective who is trying to find out what happened to his father and a banshee who has decided to work with the humans to maintain peace on earth.

This show it like an X-Files/Men in Black hybrid in that the two main characters are working for a governmental type organization which is regulating the alien presence on earth, but they are hiding a lot from the two main protagonists.

This show has aliens, monsters, humour, mystery, conspiracies, great characters and some great story lines.

It's a travesty that with all the TV stuff that's been release on DVD that this has missed out. There doesn't even seem to be any news of it happening any time soon either.

** Please release a DVD box set with all 40 episodes - ASAP! **

Bring it back!
allen-bohbot16 September 2019
This show was very popular and high quality at the time and it has been 20 yrears, it is time to bring it back! Vampires, werewolves and banshees have lived among us for centuries and we need these bounty hunters to protect us.

This show has great humor and story lines, timeless story lines....

A 3D version now would be awesome!
