Down to their last yacht....Not!

Warning: Spoilers
Welcome to Catalina, an island of dreams where the rich congregate and spend over $20 for a bowl of baked beans and the poor save up their hard-earned money only to spend it all in one night. The blonde and the redhead (Carol Tevis and Dorothy Granger) are back in this very funny entry in the RKO series, once again helmed by rising director George Stevens. They are being accompanied by feisty granny Zeffie Tilbury (the sling-shot shooting grouchy old lady in "Our Gang's" "Second Childhood" and Jane Darwell's ancient mother in "The Grapes of Wrath") who poses as the mother of the captain of a swanky yacht whom they believe to be away. Granger and Tevis have their sights set on the dashing Cully Richards and shy Grady Sutton whom they believe to be members of the uppercrust, not realizing that they are crew members of the yacht they take over to throw a lavish party. Of course, Tilbury's "son" pops up, and in a very amusing sequence, she shows him around the yacht, pointing out a copy of the classic "Blue Boy" painting and claiming that it's her son as a child and using other drawings to indicate family members. Tilbury adds great amusement to this deliciously funny short, reminding us that it isn't only animals and small children you have to watch out for as scene-stealer's, but cute old ladies as well.

Quite enjoyable.

Two young ladies (Dorothy Granger and Carol Tevis) are out with their aunt, looking for rich husbands. And, to make sure there are nothing but rich folks, they hang out in a swank resort. However, they are broke and can't even afford the lunch they just ate....so they come up with a clever way to skip out and then set out in search of rich guys. The aunt discovers two well dressed guys and introduces them to her nieces...not realizing they are crew members on the big yacht...not the owners. Nonsense ensues.

This is a clever short and it's a shame that it's very unlikely you'll ever see it unless you get the DVD of the Tevis/Gallager/Brewster shorts from Alpha Video. Well made and fun.
