A strange, intriguing journey
StarInspector10 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A space police crew witness a mysterious ship destroy an international police space station. The attacker is destroyed before its next target, but it's revealed to be the Antares a corporate ship that disappeared years before. Commander Lazarev is tasked with discovering the mystery of the missing crew of scientists and the terrorist ship.

If your looking for action, look elsewhere, this is a slow sci fi mystery from Soviet Russia. This movie ahas an interesting take on many familiar sci fi concepts and the characters act in ways non-Russian will likely find strange.

The highlights include many of the visuals, like the amazing space sequences. More importantly it is well written. While characters may act strange to some viewers, they are consistent and have good development. Initially the commander doesn't act without specific orders from his superiors. When they begin receiving orders that make no sense, our heroes start to adjust to making the decisions themselves. Wilkins, a scientists, also has a character journey from passive to a man who regains his individuality.

This isn't a perfect movie but it's well made. If you're a fan of sci fi, it's a great watch. On its own it's a fairly competent film and interesting story. Getting to see different cultures take on sci fi definitely adds to the experience.
