One of the biggest kids series on the planet is coming to the big screen. DreamWorks Animation is in the works on “Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie” and has set it for release on September 26, 2025 from Universal Pictures.
“Gabby’s Dollhouse” is the DreamWorks mixed media series for preschoolers that airs on Netflix and, according to Nielsen, was the most-streamed series that’s original to streaming in 2023. Each episode follows a girl named Gabby unboxing a surprise before jumping into a fantastical animated world of adorable cats living inside Gabby’s dollhouse.
Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey, who created the series, are executive producing the “Gabby’s Dollhouse” movie. Ryan Crego, who earned a Children’s and Family Emmy nomination for his TV feature “Arlo the Alligator Boy,” is directing the film.
In the new film, Gabby heads out on a road trip with her Grandma Gigi to the urban wonderland of Cat Francisco.

In 2004, Bonnie Allen was a 12-year-old girl in Wilmington, Delaware, who loved Spongebob Squarepants, Lizzie McGuire, and the Grease soundtrack. She had fine, corn-colored hair she regularly chopped up and dyed jet black or Elmo red, and a grin that stretched across the entire bottom half of her face, showing off her braces. She was an early-aughts “scene kid” before anyone else in her town knew that was a thing, showing up to church choir practice in fishnets and miniskirts and combat boots. “All of us were wearing Abercrombie & Fitch and Aeropostale,...

Action shonen anime dominates the medium, for better and worse. Every big franchise eventually gets an original movie — or a dozen. "One Piece" has 15, "Dragon Ball" 24, and "Naruto" has 11.
The problem is that these mostly tend to be non canonical movies without much consequence. They are cute, fun adventures, for sure. Still, they are more concerned with providing fan service than providing substance. The best ones are those that manage to make the most out of their non canonical status and present truly experimental movies, like the best of the "One Piece" films.
Now comes "Spy x Family: Code White," a movie based on one of the most popular manga, published in Shonen Jump magazine — which makes this technically a shonen anime movie, regardless of its actual genre. The premise is simple. Loid is a spy, Yor is an assassin, and together they fake a family for convenience (and for...

Sony is reportedly now in the mix to acquire Paramount in a move that would bring many of entertainment’s best-known franchises under the control of one company.
Well here’s the very definition of a power move: according to reports, Sony may have joined the race to acquire Paramount Global, the company that is currently on sale.
Paramount has been in the shop window for a while now but most analysts believe that 2024 is the year that a deal for the company will be done and for a good while now, Skydance Media has seemed to be in pole position to acquire Paramount Global. With that comes Paramount Pictures, the grand old Hollywood studio that boasts a rich history that is intertwined with the history of Hollywood itself.

SpongeBob needs no introduction, which has captivated audiences since debuting on Nickelodeon in 1999. On top of 14 seasons over the span of the past two decades, the character has also witnessed three theatrical releases, with the last one being 2020’s Sponge on the Run. However, some are conflicted about the upcoming theatrical release, after director Drymon revealed that the upcoming film will feature n-dity.

As part of its big CinemaCon Presentation this year, Paramount let loose a barrage of animated movie news, not the least of which was word that Dave Bautista and Eric Nam are aboard to lend their voices to what is currently titled Aang: The Last Airbender.
Yes, with interest perked back up in the franchise thanks to the Netflix live-action take, Paramount naturally wanted to offer an update about its animated film version. Alongside Bautista and Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten and Roman Zaragoza are in the voice cast, while original animated Airbender series veteran Lauren Montgomery is directing. There is an episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants" wherein SpongeBob makes a clown of himself by ripping his pants while trying to pick up a measly stick while "training" on the beach with friends Sandy and Larry. When everyone laughs with him rather than at him, Spongebob rolls with it.
Of course, this being SpongeBob, he takes things too far. He starts ripping one pair of pants after another for a laugh until everyone at the underwater beach is annoyed and eventually disgusted by him — even his ripped pants take consciousness and abandon the poor sponge. The episode ends with SpongeBob singing a phenomenal song about his ripping his pants costing him his friends, and everyone forgives him.
What does SpongeBob have to do with "Star Wars"? Usually very little. Stephen Hillenburg's masterpiece is lighter on pop culture references than most of its contemporaries. But they do have something in...

Xbox has announced the latest round of games that will join its Game Pass subscription service in the month of March. The Netflix-esque service offers a vast library of games for a monthly fee. This makes it a great option for players who want to explore a wide variety of genres without the upfront cost of buying individual games.
It seems Microsoft has been closely following the Helldivers 2 discourse, with players fiercely campaigning for an Xbox release. In response, the Game Pass library will see the addition of a comical co-op shooter in March that will hopefully quench the players’ Helldivers-sized thirst.

By the time you figure out where a song by New York rapper and producer Xaviersobased is coming from, it’s usually already over. On 2021’s “115 & LSD,” which the 20-year-old cites as a creative breakthrough in his music, he builds up a cacophony of exotic-bird whistles, overlapping hums, overheard yells, exploding machine-gun shells, and blown-out 808s across just two minutes. Xavier’s songs often repeat halfway through at double speed; his voice tumbles through verses about twerking and trapping and blunt toking and Xbox. “On My Own,” from his recent mixtape Keep It Goin Xav,...

Paramount Global ended last year with around 67.5 million subscribers to its flagship streaming service Paramount Plus, the company announced on Thursday.
The data point was revealed in Paramount’s fourth quarter (Q4) and full-year earnings report, through which Paramount executives affirmed their subscribing losses peaked two years ago, and they expect Paramount Plus to be fully profitable by next year.
The 67.5 million subscribers reported on Thursday represent a net increase of 4.1 million customers. The figure doesn’t include the number of customers in the United States who purchased Paramount Plus with Showtime to stream the Super Bowl earlier this month, because the event fell outside the scope of the earnings report.

The second overtime game in Super Bowl history delivered a gigantic audience on Sunday — the biggest one in the history of total-viewer ratings, in fact.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers averaged 120 million viewers on CBS, by itself the largest telecast on record. Simulcasts on Nickelodeon, Univision, Paramount+ and other digital platforms pushed the total to 123.4 million. No other broadcast in American TV history — at least as measured by Nielsen — has drawn more people.
CBS says the Super Bowl was the most streamed ever; Paramount+’s portion of the audience is rolled into the 120 million viewers for the CBS telecast as they were showing the same feed. Univision averaged about 2.2 million viewers for its Spanish-language broadcast (a record for a Super Bowl broadcast in Spanish), which would put Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob-themed alternate telecast at 1.2 million.

CBS will deploy 165 total cameras for the Super Bowl this year, including “doink” cameras inserted into each endzone pylon.
It’s almost hard to believe that the NFL season is nearly over. There’s just one game left to go, but it’s the biggest one of them all: Super Bowl Lviii. The Big Game will be played in Las Vegas’s Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Et and will air on CBS and Paramount+, and there will also be a special “SpongeBob SquarePants“-themed broadcast on Nickelodeon. From a technical standpoint, CBS’s production of the Super Bowl will be quite impressive, including its first-ever broadcast of a 4K event and the use of more 4K zoom extraction cameras for the game than have ever been employed before.

The streaming gods have smiled on Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
The Disney+ series based on author Rick Riordan’s best-selling books opened to a good-sized audience in the week before Christmas. The first two episodes, which debuted the evening of Dec. 19, drew about 572 million minutes of watch time, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. With a combined run time of 80 minutes, that works out to about 7.15 million complete runs (or “views” as currently defined by much of the industry) of the two episodes in the United States.
Disney had earlier said that the first episode had earned 13.3 million views worldwide — equivalent to a little more than 505 million minutes — over its first six days. The Nielsen figures for the premiere put Percy Jackson ahead of Disney+’s last two Marvel premieres, Secret Invasion (461 million minutes) and season two of Loki (446 million), in total viewing time.
Prime Video’s Reacher moved up to the overall No.

As the year winds down, it’s time to look back at Netflix’s biggest hits, and today, we begin by looking into what kids’ TV shows picked up the most points in the Netflix top 10s over the past 12 months.
This list is compiled using FlixPatrol data collected from the daily top 10s on Netflix from over 80 countries around the globe. They assign points and values to each title that gets featured on any day. Their data isn’t perfect as their method doesn’t quite fully capture the complexity of viewership data, such as total watch time, repeat viewings, or demographic details of the audience. Also worth noting is that Netflix changed up its top 10 metrics midway through the year to favor views over pure viewing hours. That said, their data provides a pretty accurate snapshot of what performed best over a long period.

If you want a risk-taking Broadway musical that weaponizes disco-glamour to tell a story of crumbling democracy, I hope you already invested in a ticket to the immersion of "Here Lies Love" in its dying breath. If you want a work of artistic and personal self-reflection, see the "Merrily We Roll Along" revival. But if you hunger for Broadway-based belly laughs, you have two musical options: "Gutenberg! The Musical!" or the "Monty Python's Spamalot" revival.
"Lovingly ripped off" from the 1975 "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" as well as other "Monty Python" media, "Spamalot" reigned for 1,575 performances from its 2005 Broadway premiere. Transported from the Kennedy Center run in May 2023, this Broadway revival at the St. James Theatre serves up the oldies with adequate variance to its secondhand Pythonesque humor.
From the moment the Arthurian tale opens with an irrelevant Finland number, anyone who has not seen anything "Monty Python" is in for hijinks.

Since the beginning of SpongeBob SquarePants, a few elements of the series have always been essential. It takes place in Bikini Bottom, Patrick is goofy, Squidward is serious, Mr. Krabs is greedy, and SpongeBob is the focal point of each episode...until now.
