Heart-warming, funny, tragic and sexy.
Beastie-1011 November 2001
This short flick should be watched by anyone who is gay, bisexual or unsure. It's a sweet little story about unrequited love between two Norwegian teenage boys, both popular with the girls. The kiss in the snow of the title is a powerful, charged and sexy moment - thousands of emotions expressed through one quick peck in the shivering cold.

But the ending is, ultimately, tragic. And totally recognisable for anyone who's found it hard to be themselves.

The actors are superb.

delicate poetry

surprising. for the grace of story. for images. for the kiss. for the fight against feelings. for performances. and for a wise manner to translate emotions, fears, tension of meetings and the impact of an innocent gesture who change all. a sad story. at the first sigh because it is obvious - the end could not be the other. but the letter of Stian is one of the most beautiful answers to the feeling storm of his friend. the last touch who change the sense of entire story because it is the mark of kiss in snow. the delicate poetry of image. and the lovely pulse of each scene. a love story. but, more important, a definition of yourself. and this is motif for who, after the end, the three snow angels, the image from the title remains long time fresh in our memory.

The bad outweighs the good easily

Warning: Spoilers
The 23-minute "Kysset som fikk snøen til å smelte" (sounds like something with "melting") or "A Kiss in the Snow" is a Norwegian(-language) short film from 1997, so it is almost 20 years old and looking at the cast and the people who made this I see that almost nobody of them except the director (and also only sporadically) is working in film anymore. So you should not be surprised that this one here is not exactly a great movie to watch. It is a gay-themed short film that actually has a somewhat interesting premise (triangle relationship) and I also liked the snowy Norwegian cinematography, but that is really all the positive. The writing is not good, even pretty bad if you look at it in detail and the performances are not convincing either. There was more than one situation when i felt the movie was not making much sense and the letter at the end was probably the negative highlight. I can only shaky my head at people like the other reviewer, who gave this one a perfect rating and describes it like the greatest film ever made. 4 stars out of 10 is still pretty generous. Watch something else instead.
