Return to Peyton Place '79 was a 20th Century Fox one hour syndicated pilot presentation taped at the Hollywood KTLA TV studio. The presentation pilot was based on the success of the 1972-1973-1974 NBC TV daytime drama "Return To Peyton Place". George Parrish (NBC Show Producer), after NBC's cancellation of the daytime series, transferred over to Fox Television working on Fox Television Syndication projects. The "Return to Peyton Place '79" was auditioned as a cable program option for three years, eventually abandoned by the studio.
The KTLA Construction Shop built the scenery/sets in their mill, then moved the sets onto a KTLA sound stage. Major architectural elements from the 20th Century Fox Scene dock were incorporated in each set's design; curved staircase unit, fireplace mantel units, window and door units, etc. Drapery was fabricated by MGM Drapery Department. All the set dressing came from the 20th Century Fox Property Department. 20th Century Fox Television had the sets and set dressing moved from KTLA TV Studio back to their Beverly Hills Studio, where the pack of sets were stored in their scene dock. The 50' long pack of scenery units was kept intact for five years with the Television Division expecting to sell a "Peyton Place" cable series (represented at the Las Vegas TV Market show each year).
