Simply Irresistible

Its not just the extremely well acted scenes, or the amazing plot, but the EXTRAPOLATED beauty of Thalia. She does all in this drama/musical soap opera: sing, dance and act, all summed in a marvelous performance. The rest of the cast is very good, but is just the beautiful and gift talented Thalia, who covers the small screen. 8 years had passed since I saw this soap opera, and I remember it every day of my life. I'm just waiting to see Thalia again, in the small or even in the big screen; I hope so. Summing all, if some day the Academy Awards gives an Oscar for the best soap opera of the past century, I'm pretty sure Rosalinda will take home the golden man. If you don't believe me, see it for yourself.

Rosalinda... 'mi amor!'

Rosalinda... 'mi amor!' By Leo P. Udtohan

Source: Philippine Daily Inquirer, April 1, 2000

FACE it. Thalia continues to reign in the hearts of many Filipino viewers.

I once attended a general info competition and was thrilled when the quizmaster asked: What is the real name of Thalia who stars in the famous telenovela of the century Rosalinda? Only one person got the correct answer. Ariadna Sodi y Miranda.

Independence

Thalia's name denotes peace, godlinesss, love, charm, beauty, independence, and the sophistication that the modern world expects of a woman.

I first discovered Thalia when I was in third year high school, four years ago. Since then, she has occupied a special niche in my heart.

I have many friends who for years have helped me with my special "mission" to collect all forms of information about Thalia. They include Dustine Rene Bernasor on the Internet, my Mexican friends Ana Christi Christodou and Viviana Camares, my sis Ruth and close friends who had helped me collect more information via cyberspace, by infochat (not heeding the cost of surfing, so what?) and reading numerous tabloids, magazines and newpapers.

New TV persona

And now, after three years of absence from our screens, Thalia is back! She is now Rosalinda-- a beautiful woman with a rose in her hair. She once made thousands fall in love with her as Maria Mercedes, Marimar and Maria la del Barrio, but her new TV persona is similiarly captivating.

Some people look down on telenovelas. which they deem too pat for comfort- the same, old plotlines--poor girl and rich man, and they lived happily ever after, etc! But even if some soap operas are boring,Thalia's acting, beauty and charms shines through it all.

"Rosalinda" is a combination of drama, reality and fantasy. It is a telenovela filled with love, passion and revenge and is expected to be a worldwide smash. A record of 110 countries has purchased the broadcast rights to the new Mexican soap.

It tells the story of a 20 -year-old girl from the lower class and her pursuit of love and happiness. Her greatest aspiration in life is to become a famous singer. She goes to school and sells flowers in order to make money to pay for her education. Rosalinda was raised by her aunt Dolores (Tina Romero). Unknown to Rosalinda, her real mother Soledad (Angelica Maria) is in prison because she was blamed for the murder of Fernando Jose's father, a murder which she did not commit.

One day, she went to a restaurant and met a young man, Fernando Jose Altamirano (Fernando Carillo), a rich lawyer , a pianist and who sings love songs. Rosalinda instantly fell in love with him. Soon they get married, but were later forced to separate.

When Valeria (Lupita Ferrer), the mother of Fernando Jose finds out who Rosalinda really was, Fernando Jose leaves Rosalinda who was pregnant at that time. Because of her sadness, she gave birth prematurely.

"Rosalinda' has made a history in the Latin TV entertainment. More than 2, 500 flowers have been cultivated for use in this soap opera.

Debate

There's a debate on whether "Rosalinda" will be Thalia's final telenovela. What do you think? On this, Thalia has said, " Do you know how many people have said that to me? They are certain of that."

"But look, having the affection from the public and their support, I will continue doing everything." Thalia promised. "I have dedicated my life to my career.

If Thalia decides that "Rosalinda" will be her final telenovela, I am sure Thalia's fan will cry or even go on a riot! But even she decides to devote more time to her personal life (she could even get married), she will continue being the same Thalia to her fans.

"I could devote myself to my family. On the other hand, I would never leave my public," assures Thalia.

Her love that is so genuine that people can feel it strongly, that "realness", that comes only from a person whom we all know as Thalia.

Let's end this piece with the lyrics of the theme song of Thalia's latest telenovela:

'Rosalinda'

When you have a reason To love intensely you suddenly discover that, at last, your heart beats harder.

Ay, when passion calls us we find ourselves face to face to love each other madly and to give ourselves to love without holding back.

Ay, my love, stay deep within me here is your Rosalinda to live in your dreams Ay, my love, I am dying for you It is she your Rosalinda who only wants your kisses.

Ay my love, ay my love Here is your Rosalinda to live in your dreams

Take my soul, drink my body Because I am dying for your kisses, ay!

Rosalinda, Rosalinda Rosalinda ay my love, my love!

I had a couple of days of school my mum and sister-in-law loved it i got into it and just adored it. it was sad but still makes you jump and scream at the TV screen i cant believe the cant see Rosalinda her husband nearly ran her over. still cant see her. its so sad how she loses her mind. its a show to die for try and watch it some day. first of all i thought boring. its really good her own cousin married her husband so Eastenders like but know were near as good.OK then lets get to the bit were the bagger takes her away. and hurts her not really but he doesn't help either, he uses her to help him beg. of course i couldn't watch it but my mum told me about it and recored it for me.

Classic Telenovela Must See
gwenplato5 April 2020
This was my first telenovela. My sister and I used to watch it on DVD. I was watching it to help me learn Spanish and she was watching 'cause she lives for the drama. I really loved the characters and I wish I could watch it again now in better quality or at the very least, with English subtitles. I wish Netflix or Amazon Prime would get the rights to stream this. #QuarantineReview

Great!

This telenovela reminds me of my childhood - I was 8-9 years old when it was on TV in my country and me and my parents were absolutely obsessed by it. I think it was one of the reasons why I decided to learn Spanish at a later point in my life. Thalia's performance is outstanding, and overall this is a very sad telenovela, straight from the 1st episode. I stumbled across it now, I don't know how many years later, and it has again caught my attention. It is very impressive how a lot of the character names reflect their stories, in ex. "Rosalinda" - "Beautiful Rose", "Soledad" - "Solitude", "Dolores" - "Pains / Sufferings". It is one of the very few soap operas that remain unforgettable up to this day, even though it has all classic twists and turns - but also a lot of unexpected ones.

Great show!

Bueno Diaz!

This show is one of my favourite telenovelas. The credit should go to the scriptwriters for the exciting sudden-turn-abouts. But sadly, only 2 points dampens the show: #1. The lack of choice of the music. It's quite irritating to hear the same tunes for 70 episodes in a row. #2. I REALLY hate the close-ups. For example: "Oh no! Rosalinda's got an accident!" *Close-up to Soledad's face*. It's pretty predictable, really. I would like to say that the scene where Paloma gets hit by the car seems so realistic! But the part where Fransisco Quinonez gets shot by Valencia Altamirano needs improvement.

Overall, I give this series 8.5 stars.

pretty good... but not enough

I think this novela is pretty good. It's of course as all Mexican novelas... a poor girl... a rich man... and so on. In the beginning I really liked it, and I love the music of Thalia. But then Rosalinda lost her memory.. and her sister married her husband. I mean, it was a little too unreal... well... I like novelas from Chile, they are better. Like "Pampa Ilusion" and "Romané".

Thalia Rox

Thalía plays the leading role in her last soap opera, "Rosalinda", in 1998. It has been called the "Titanic" of "telenovelas" and the most-awaited soap of the century. "Rosalinda" brought Thalía back to the small screen after a three-year hiatus. It was sold in approximately 60 countries even before it was written, just because Thalía was secured as the leading lady. She acted by the side of leading man, Venezuelan actor, Fernando Carrillo. The storyline also focused an a poor young girl who grew up to become a rich and refined woman, but with a twist! With "Rosalinda", Thalía, the Queen of "telenovelas", secured the title of Mexico's top actress. It is Thalia's last soap opera, since she has been concentrating in her career as a singer, until she find an adequate next project.
