Quotes
-
Jasmine : How long does a rabbit live?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Um, well that depends. If you take care of them they can live six, maybe seven years.
Jasmine : But does the rabbit know that? He grows and eats and sleeps. He doesn't know his life is short, he just lives it. Every second means so much.
-
Jasmine : Don't trees have leaves?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Trees? Ah yeah, yeah. Well part of the year, and in the spring they grow back and then they grow all summer.
Jasmine : And in the fall they die?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah, but then they grow in the spring. It's like a cycle kind of thing.
Jasmine : I hope I get to see it, spring... summer.
-
Dr. Peter Hamilton : [upon seeing Jasmine's elderly face] It's... it's okay. You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
Jasmine, 80 Years Old : It's too late.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : [tearfully] I'm sorry. I'm very sorry. Can... can I do something for you? Anything?
Jasmine, 80 Years Old : [last words] You already have. I've had a lifetime with the one I love. Summer must be beautiful. I wish I could see it with you.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : [embracing Jasmine] It's okay.
-
Jasmine, 4 Years Old : I'm still hungry Peter.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Ah you can't be.
Jasmine, 4 Years Old : I'm a growing girl remember?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah. You can say that again.
Jasmine, 4 Years Old : That shouldn't be necessary.
-
Jasmine, 4 Years Old : [holding a jasmine branch] What's this?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : That is called jasmine.
Jasmine, 4 Years Old : Smells pretty. I like jasmine.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah, jasmine. That's a pretty name.
-
Jasmine, 8 Years Old : When will it stop being cold outside?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : In the springtime.
Jasmine, 8 Years Old : When is spring?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Well, spring is when uh, the snow melts and it gets warm out.
Jasmine, 8 Years Old : [smiling] I think I'll like spring.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah. I think you will too.
-
Jasmine, 12 Years Old : Where did I come from?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Uhh... well, can't say for sure. Umm... you know, somebody left you here so I could help you.
Jasmine, 12 Years Old : But then who am I? I know about the conception process. I know I have a mother and a father.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Well...
[looks at the now 12-year-old Jasmine]
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Oh boy...
Jasmine, 12 Years Old : I've grown again, haven't I?
-
Dr. Peter Hamilton : I'm just... basically shooting in the dark.
[12-year-old Jasmine looks at Peter with a puzzled expression]
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Oh that's just an expression.
-
Dr. Peter Hamilton : [after showing Charlie footage of Jasmine's rapid development] I have a newfound respect for you raising your kids through teething and potty training.
Charlotte 'Charlie' Tanzi : Least I didn't have to do it in a single night!
-
Dr. Peter Hamilton : When I was a kid, um, I was very smart, kind of like you and uh, my parents made a deal with Concord University that if they paid for me to stay here and study here, uh, they could do some tests on me, to try to figure out why I was so smart.
Jasmine, 12 Years Old : So you grew up here too? Just like me?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah. Yeah, you could say that.
Jasmine, 12 Years Old : Did you grow up fast too?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Uhh...
-
Charlotte 'Charlie' Tanzi : How goes the battle?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Well, I'm narrowing it down from... hopeless to impossible if you want to call that progress.
-
Jasmine : [looking at a rabbit in a cage] Why do they have to be in cages?
Charlotte 'Charlie' Tanzi : Well, uh because otherwise they'll just jump out and run away, honey, it's... for their own safety.
Jasmine : Like me? Is this... my cage?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : No no no no, no no. Uh, not at all.
Jasmine : Then why can't I go outside? I won't run away.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Well, we'll go out together, I promise. But, right now we gotta keep working.
Jasmine : Peter, a minute for you is like a day for me.
-
Jasmine : [responding to Peter's & Charlie's frustration about AccelRate] Why not ask Mark? Why won't he help us?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Umm... Jasmine? Mark's dead.
Jasmine : [visibly confused] I don't understand.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : He... killed himself. Took his own life.
Jasmine : [pause] How could he do that?
Charlotte 'Charlie' Tanzi : 'Cause he was afraid. He just couldn't face what happened to your mother.
Jasmine : [in shock] He may have taken my life too...
-
Jasmine : How could Mark throw away his life like that?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Sometimes you need something to live for.
Jasmine : Peter, I don't want to wait. If there's a chance we can have a life, I want it now.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : What if it doesn't work?
Jasmine : Then it really doesn't matter, does it?
[Peter nods in agreement]
-
Jasmine : Did you like hockey?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah. Well, I mean, I never actually played 'cause uh, once they found out I was all smart and everything, my whole life was uh, school and... never really got to do anything else.
Jasmine : What about all those posters on your wall? Venice, Paris, London?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : I know I know. Those are places that I'm gonna visit... someday.
Jasmine : Can we see them together?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah. Yeah, I'd like that.
Jasmine : You have to mean it Peter.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : [watching Jasmine skate ahead] I do.
-
Dr. Peter Hamilton : [at a conservatory] I used to come here and uh, study and... pretend I was in the Amazon.
[chuckles]
Jasmine : Is this what summer's like?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah. Well sort of. It's, it's uh... you know it's, it's sunny out and uh, everything's green, and it's warm and, people go on vacations and have fun.
Jasmine : Do you ever do that?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : No, I don't. But, I'm going to. I'm gonna do it.
-
Jasmine : Did you find Mark?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Umm... uh no, I didn't, umm... but I, I, I think it's alright. We... we still have some time.
Jasmine : [worried] Do we? Something's happening to the sky.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : What?
Jasmine : Look.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Oh, no no no, it's just getting dark out.
Jasmine : Night. Hung be the heavens with black, yield day to night.
-
Jasmine : [after Peter stops her kissing] Didn't I do it right?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah, yeah. Um, I... I'm s-... I jus-, I don't think we should do this.
Jasmine : But, isn't that what people do when they care for each other? When they love each other?
[Peter nods and hugs Jasmine]

[last lines]
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Thanks for keeping all this stuff for me.
Charlotte 'Charlie' Tanzi : No problem.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Umm, I'll call you when I get back. Who knows, maybe... maybe I'll just stay over there.
Charlotte 'Charlie' Tanzi : [hugging Peter] Well, you be happy, okay?
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Yeah, yeah.
Charlotte 'Charlie' Tanzi : [sighs] Oh my god. Alright umm, I'm gonna go uh, put the stuff in the car.
Dr. Peter Hamilton : Okay, I'll be right down.
