Dripping with praise
pooky-85 August 1999
This movie sports a cast of young, good looking, talented actors who dazzle the screen with their lack of Hollywood taint. Not only do you get to see these geniuses at work, you are also blessed to receive a good dose of Austin rock and roll! To miss this movie would be a great mistake, as it is director Bob Ray's chariot to the stars, guaranteed to take him straight to the top. The movie, shot around Austin, combines good old fashioned Cheech and Chong type marijuana jokes with witty dialogue, turning Ray's feature length directorial debut into a great big, hazy (albeit amusing), misadventure. Don't miss this movie!!

Shot in the butt of laughter!

This movie is hilarious! It is the best drug-hazed movie about scraping by in a band and getting into crazy situations ever. Anyone who knows what type of nutty, fun adventures you can get into hanging around a the local reeferaddicts will totally identify, and those who do not are in for a vicarious treat as well! You should see this movie, or failing that, buy a copy

The South Will Rock Again
prof_murder19 August 2001
This is one of those movies that makes me proud to live in Austin. We had Slacker to showcase our town in 1990 and now Rock Opera rounds it out in 1999! Want to have some idea what it's like here in Austin, Tx? Check it out....but don't move here. The South/North Austin in-joke rages on and the ones in the know can totally relate. You don't have to be a Texan to get into this one since these "types" live all over our fine country. Many Austinites will be pleased to see Ginny's Little Longhorn used twice in this film (once as the bar in Vidor, Tx. and then as the bar in Del Rio, Tx.). A great cast (not pros, but talented) and some great tunes by the FuckEmos and other acts. A slice of life for the local band/stoner lifestyle...grab your favorite 12 pack (Lone Star if possible) and strap on your gasmask bong and enjoy this rockin' little flick.
