John Oliver mocked Liz Truss, currently in the running to replace Boris Johnson as the UK’s prime minister, on Sunday night’s episode of HBO Max’s Last Week Tonight due to a tweet mourning sex offender Jimmy Savile.
“Truss has a real knack for making bad decisions and then very much sticking to them,” Oliver said. “Exemplified by the fact that this tweet paying tribute to Jimmy Savile, who turned out to be a monstrous pedophile, has still not been deleted 11 years later.”
Truss tweeted on Oct. 29, 2011, following Savile’s death two days before his 85th birthday: “Used to see Jimmy Savile at the Flying Pizza on Street Lane, Roundhay. Always in good spirits. Rip”

So “Legend of the Sea Devils” was a serviceable, fairly by-the-numbers, classic-monster-meets-celebrity historical story that didn’t hit any truly spectacular highs or lows, but which will surely be hotly debated in the comments anyway.
The biggest reveal of the episode was in the 30-second clip before the end credits. Yes, the next episode will show us the Thirteenth Doctor regenerate into the Fourteenth, we know. And in this story she’ll be facing the Master, the Daleks, and the Cybermen which, of course she is. Who doesn’t want to bring all the big stops out for the final bash?
We expected all of these reveals…except the one that truly blew us away: the Thirteenth Doctor’s final story will feature the return of Classic Who companions Ace and Tegan Jovanka, once again played by Sophie Aldred and Janet Fielding, respectively. It is the biggest special guest appearance...

Photo: ‘Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story’ Note: Due to the nature of the documentary being reviewed, this review briefly touches on subject matter involving sexual abuse that might be upsetting to hear about. The Man Who Fooled Millions Sir James Wilson Vincent Savile, or as he’s better known, Jimmy Savile, is a man who needs little introduction. Born in Leeds, England in the year 1926, he slowly became one of the UK’s most recognized figures during his adult life through a variety of means; raising high amounts of money for charity, hosting two different television shows (‘Jim’ll Fix It’ and ‘Top of the Pops’), and helping out in several different hospitals, Savile seemed like the most pure-hearted individual you could ever imagine. However, after his death in 2011, an alarming number of sexual abuse allegations against the man were made, and a lot of these allegations showed that many...

Dan Neal was issued a formal caution by 'Big Brother' last night (04.07.13) after threatening violence. The policeman - who was previously investigating Operation Yewtree, the probe set up in the wake of the sex abuse claims made against disgraced 'Jim'll Fix It' presenter Jimmy Savile - was given the warning after he repeatedly threatened to punch fellow housemate Callum Knell. Dan was furious after Callum voted for him in the face-to-face nominations, explaining his choice was because they are ''not very close'', which Dan described as a ''lame reason''. He then went into a fiery outburst and raged: ''I felt...

London, Mar h 1: Russell Brand hit back at a guest on his Us talk show who joked that he and lots of other British TV hosts were paedophiles.
Movie hunk Dermot Mulroney made the remark as Brand discussed the Jimmy Savile sex scandal.
The funnyman said that in his country, there used to be a show called Jim'll Fix It. He said that the show had to be banned because the man who ran that show turned out to be a gargantuan paedophile.
Mulroney, 49, then commented that this seems to be happening with a lot of the British television hosts.
According to the British newspaper The Sun, Brand, 37, fired back: What are.

Amanda Holden has revealed that she would love to front the next incarnation of Jim'll Fix It. The Britain's Got Talent judge explained that she'd like a show where she could make "dreams come true", but accepted that replicating the Jimmy Savile format wouldn't be wise following the child sex abuse allegations levelled at the late presenter.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the Collar & Coats Gala Ball for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home last week, Holden stated: "If I had a dream show, I probably shouldn't even mention it (more)...

The exclusion of women from the corridors of power concerns me more than James Bond's sexual antics
We live in confusing times. Lovable children's TV presenters turn out not to be so lovable after all and Jim'll Fix It badges are so reviled they're currently commanding upwards of £200 on eBay. (Don't ask me how I know that. I was just... browsing.)
And now there's Bond. He's a spy. You may have heard of him. His latest outing, Skyfall, has smashed all previous Bond records and been widely praised as a more psychologically complex Bond than we've seen before (in a nutshell: he has Mummy issues).
So rave reviews all around, until Thursday, when Times columnist Giles Coren took to Twitter to lambast it for its misogyny and linked it to a column on the subject that the Times had declined to publish and which he had instead posted on his wife's blog.

London — Police investigating child sex abuse allegations against the late BBC television host Jimmy Savile arrested former glam rock star and convicted sex offender Gary Glitter on Sunday, British media reported, raising further questions about whether Savile was at the center of a broader pedophile ring.
Police would not directly identify the suspect arrested Sunday, but media including the BBC and Press Association reported he was the 68-year-old Glitter.
The musician, whose real name is Paul Gadd, made it big with the crowd-pleasing hit "Rock & Roll (Part 2)," a mostly instrumental anthem that has been a staple at American sporting events, thanks to its catchy "hey" chorus. But he fell into disgrace after being convicted on child abuse charges in Vietnam.

A Jim'll Fix It producer has insisted that he was unaware of Sir Jimmy Savile's alleged sexual abuse of underage girls, revealing that the late presenter used to stay in a bedroom next to his teenage daughter. Roger Ordish explained that while he was aware of Savile's "predilection for younger females", he believed there had been "nothing obscene" about the DJ's behaviour. He told ITV"s This Morning today (October 16): "I didn't see anything and nothing was reported to me. "He slept in a bedroom next to my 14-year-old daughter and I hope that is some indication that we had no suspicions of anything of this nature at all." Asked by presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby why he was not concerned by reports of Savile's behaviour at the time, Ordish replied: "You hear rumours about (more)...

The Office star Julie Fernandez has revealed that Jimmy Savile groped her when she was just 14. The disabled actress, who played Brenda in The Office, appeared on Jim'll Fix It after writing to the show on behalf of her friends at Treloar School in Hampshire. She told how Savile's hands lingered "in places they shouldn't" and she felt like "slapping his hand away" while they were in the TV studio. "I was in my wheelchair, but I just remember his hands being everywhere and just lingering those two, three, four seconds slightly too long in places they shouldn't. But it wasn't particularly obvious either," Fernandez told Radio 5 Live. "It was in a busy room full of people in a studio so it was quite discreetly done and you don't kind of realise what's happening at the time, (more)...

London — For decades, Jimmy Savile was a fixture on British television – an eccentric, aggressively jocular host of children's shows and a tireless charity fundraiser. When he died last year at 84 – by then knighted as Sir Jimmy – he drew tributes from Prince Charles and thousands of fans.
Now several women have come forward to claim "Sir Jimmy" was also a sexual predator who abused underage girls.
The allegations have set off ripples of shock – but not of surprise. There had, colleagues said, long been rumors. The main question being asked now is: Why did no one do anything?
"Maybe it was just the fact that Jimmy knew everybody," Esther Rantzen, a former BBC journalist and founder of the ChildLine child-protection charity, told Channel 4 news. "We made him into the Jimmy Savile who was untouchable, who nobody could criticize."

A woman who alleges she is the lovechild of late British entertainer Sir Jimmy Savile has launched a legal bid to lay claim to part of his $12.48 million (£7.8 million) fortune.
The beloved TV star passed away at the age of 84 last October and left the majority of his millions to charity.
But Georgina Ray, 41, claims she is entitled to some of the money and she has undergone a DNA test to prove she is Savile's daughter.
Ray, who bears a striking resemblance to Savile, believes she was born after her mother enjoyed a two-week fling with the Jim'll Fix It presenter.
Savile's niece Amanda McKenna tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "We have been told she has put in a claim on my Uncle Jimmy's estate and everything is on hold until it's resolved. It's in the hands of the executors of the estate and they are dealing with it. We are waiting to hear the outcome."...

With the world gripped by more financial woes, James wonders, does our salvation lie in dystopian sci-fi movies such as Logan's Run, In TIme and, erm, The Muppets?
These are dark days, indeed, friends. I feel it in the water, or at least I do when the taps are running. There's a cold chill coursing through society, and the drafts of despair and doom are surging through the streets as we inch onwards into a winter of discontent.
The zeitgeist is one of instability, doubt and uncertainty. The worldwide financial crisis is pressing itself into our collective face as politicians and other power-people fritter about and point fingers instead of taking proactive measures to put things right. Furthermore, now that Jimmy Savile has died, there's no chance that Jim'll Fix It either.

London — Veteran British broadcaster Jimmy Savile, a famously eccentric culture figure, has died at his home in northern England. He was 84.
Savile, known for his garish tracksuits, chunky gold jewelry and boundless enthusiasm for pop music and charity work, was the host of two long-running British television programs and claimed to have been a longtime confidant to Prince Charles and ex-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Rarely seen without his trademark large cigar, Savile had initially worked in a coal mine as a teenager before embracing music and built a national profile as a disc jockey – first in Britain's dance halls and later on radio, including the renowned Radio Luxembourg.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that officers had been called Saturday to Savile's home in the city of Leeds, northern England, and said that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The cause of Savile's death is not yet known.

Beloved British TV star Sir Jimmy Savile has died at the age of 84.
The former Top of the Pops presenter passed away at his home in Leeds, England.
The U.K.'s Sky News reports police were called to the property on Saturday. The cause of Savile's death is currently not known but officers are not treating it as suspicious.
The news comes just two days before what would have been Savile's 85th birthday on Monday.
His DJ friend Dave Lee Travis paid tribute to the star, telling Sky News, "It's a shock. I guess you get to a certain age and you watch people getting older, but with Jim, you couldn't anticipate that he wasn't going to be around... He was one of the first DJs that actually became a personality... He was a slightly tormented soul; he had a lot on his plate. He was outrageously fit for his age... going running and stuff, doing what he did for charity."
Savile started his career working in a coal mine as a teenager, but went on to become a successful DJ and TV presenter.
He was the first host of legendary British music show Top of the Pops and had a long career in radio, but he will perhaps be best remembered for his beloved TV programme Jim'll Fix It, which saw him make viewers' wishes come true.
He was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal by Queen Elizabeth II in 1971, and he received a knighthood in 1990.
A number of other stars have also paid their respects to Savile.
Comedian Ricky Gervais writes on his Twitter.com page, "Rip Jimmy Saville My first guest on my first TV Show. A proper British eccentric."
Opera singer Katherine Jenkins adds, "Sad news Jimmy Saville has passed away. My sis & I always wanted a Jim'll Fix it Badge/Medal. Loved that show. Great memories."

He was one of the first DJs that actually became a personality... He was a slightly tormented soul, he had a lot on his plate. He was outrageously fit for his age... going running and stuff, doing what he did for charity."
Savile started his career working in a coal mine as a teenager, but went onto become a successful DJ and TV presenter.
He was the first host of legendary British music show Top of the Pops and had a long career on the radio, but he will be best remembered for his beloved British television programme Jim'll Fix It, which saw him make viewers' wishes come true.
He was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal by Queen Elizabeth II in 1971, and he received a knighthood in 1990.

Sir Jimmy Savile died today at the age of 84. The legendary presenter, who claimed to be the first ever DJ, launched Top of the Pops back in 1964 and went on to make dreams come true for nearly 20 years on Jim'll Fix It. Described as "pure showbiz" by DJ Mike Read, Sir Jimmy became just as well known for his flamboyant style - trademark tracksuits, gold chains and cigars - as his on-screen career. He is said to have dyed his hair (more)...

Sir Jimmy Savile has died at his home at the age of 84. The DJ and TV presenter, most famous for his show Jim'll Fix It, was just two days away from his 85th birthday. Last month, it was reported that Sir Jimmy had been taken to Leeds General Infirmary after suffering a bout of pneumonia. It is as yet unknown whether the illness was the cause of his death. Friend and fellow DJ Dave Lee Travis paid tribute to Sir Jimmy, saying: "For some unknown reason, with Jim, you couldn't anticipate that he wasn't going to be around anymore - he was such a powerful presence. "He was one of the first DJs that actually became a personality." Born in 1926, Sir Jimmy was the youngest of seven children,...

Here's a pretty crazy vintage 1979 Star Wars video of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) having a picnic with an 8-year-old kid named Danny on the Degobah set of Empire Strikes Back. It must have been a pretty trippy experience for this kid! He won a national contest from an old BBC wish-granting TV show called Jim'll Fix It. Children would write to host Jimmy Savile, asking him to make a certain dream come true for them on national television, and little Danny here won the grand prize of visiting The Empire Strikes Back production at Elstree Studios in London.
The video has kind of a creepy vibe to it. During their little lunch Hamill and R2D2 show off a clip from the film, which has been untouched by George Lucas' CGI special effects upgrades. Once Danny is done on the set, he pops back in on the Jim'll Fix It...

This Star Wars promo/contest video goes from cute to creepy in no time at all, when one little boy named Daniel is invited to the set of The Empire Strikes Back to hang out with Luke Skywalker for a day. As part of British talk show Jim'll Fix It's contest (host Jimmy Savile is kind of frightening), Daniel wins a trip to the set of Star Wars where he spends some quality time with actor Mark Hamill amongst the swamps of Dagobah. The two have a chat about school, Daniel's favorite part in the first film, and watch a preview of Empire while Hamill plugs it like gangbusters. Seeing Daniel's wide eyes and unstoppable smile instantly teleports you back to the theater seat (or sofa at home) where you watched the film for the first time as a child. There's an...
