Old Keystone Kops Never Die, They Simply Join the Fire Department
boblipton11 November 2016
When Flora Finch has the leg show that Peggy Shaw is appearing in closed, her son invites the entire chorus home for a party. When his mother, a burglar and a fire appears, chaos ensues in this one-reel comedy.

I was surprised to see that Dave Fleischer directed this live-action comedy, the first of the "Carrie of the Chorus" series brother Max produced. I was familiar with Dave's work as director of the brothers' cartoons and his later work as a cartoon producer for Columbia. Miss Shaw's career was mostly as a showgirl for Florenz Ziegfeld.

This movie is short and fairly primitive for the era, with the assortment of frantic comics running through their gags competently, in a manner that had gone out of style. It's mostly interesting as a historical curiosity.

If you wish to see it for yourself, it is the last (and alas, the least) offering on ACCIDENTALLY PRESERVED 4, compiled by and with lively scores by Producer Ben Model. All of the shorts on this DVD are drawn from 9.5 mm show-at-home prints for the "Pathe Baby" system.
