Nice try

Love Mitch but movie was awful. Probably cost $500 to make.Mitch has funny ideas but the photography wasn't good at all. Looks like they just threw this thing together . Too bad he left us too soon. It would have been fun to see him develop even more as an entertainer. I couldn't even watch more than 5 min.

Basically unwatchable

I though maybe this was a case of a decent movie that didnt get the exposure it needed and never got popular. Nope... It's just badly done throughout. The acting (if it can be called that) ranges from "meh" to terrible. Really bad music. Bad dialog. Tried watching this three times and couldn't watch more than 15 minutes of it. Yes it is bad. Skip it you aren't missing anything

Los Enchiladas is a must see
willsperson22 May 2005
Los Enchiladas is hysterical with a perfect cast of characters and Mitch's cool in acting and writing permeates throughout the film. It leaves you wanting more.

The Austin Film Festival sponsored a tribute to Mitch Hedberg at the Capitol City Comedy Club in Austin May 23rd, 2005 The sold out event was emotional and bittersweet attended by Mitch's fans, friends and family. Mitch fans were treated to home movies and performances that gave a private and personal glimpse to his genuineness and genius.

I hope as many people see the film as possible and keep Mitch's legacy alive. He is already missed.

A Real Yawner
bladeistrue6 March 2016
This movie went nowhere; Like a puddle on the concrete after a hot summer rain it was shallow and dried up quick. Don't know why this movie currently ranks above a 3. Mitch Hedberg's stand up was funny, but he was still lacking serious popularity - His "life style" issues and subsequent death didn't help. I never laughed once at this movie, not even a chuckle and I nearly fell asleep waiting for any spark of a plot. Centering the theme around a fast food restaurant is lame. Maybe if Mitch would have incorporated his humor/jokes into this movie, added some romance, a love story and most of all any resemblance of a main plot it might have had some redeeming value. As it was, watching a pack of mutts going in circles sniffing their butts would have been funnier. Jana Johnson (Amy) was the only bright spot - should have been a love interest of a romance story, and "Amy" could have had some physical sex appeal. Perhaps it ranks higher than its worth because of Mitch's death just as he was showing signs of blossoming - Mitch Hedberg fans are emotionally confused and objectivity went out the window. Mitch said he submitted his script to several movie makers and it was rejected, I can understand why.

The best movie you never saw.
13Funbags25 April 2017
Now this is a gem.Los Enchiladas! not only starred Mitch Hedberg but he also wrote and directed it. Who is Mitch Hedberg you ask?Only one of the funniest men to ever walk the earth. It's surprising he did a movie since one of his most famous bits is about comedians becoming writers and actors. "You are a good chef, can you farm?". His drug fogged reality made for a hit or miss one liner style and he almost never looked at the audience. As sad as it was to see him die,I can't say I was surprised. Anyway, this movie is exactly what you would think a movie written by Mitch would be,FUNNY. If your idea of funny is Friends or Everybody Loves Raymond, you probably won't like it. If you like Cheech & Chong or Tim & Eric or Mr. Show, you will love this. The story is loosely based on his real life and is just about him traveling the country working in restaurants. Dave Attell and Todd Barry are also in this but the funniest person in the movie is Jim Jorgensen, who plays the wacky chef. Most importantly, this movie was never released. All that exists is one not so good VHS copy. Mitch's widow is supposed to be trying to release it but she said that years ago. If you like to laugh,SEE THIS.

Just because you love his standup...
christophervalle-001318 November 2020
...don't assume that you will love, like or even barely tolerate this movie.

I saw that one user review selected the "contains spoilers": option. There's nothing about the plot that could be revealed that would cause an issue. The spoiler is the movie itself. Don't let it spoil your appreciation for Mitch's vastly better standup work.

TECH ISSUES: I watched it on YouTube on a 65" Sony OLED, but I'm pretty sure the technical shortcomings would be noticeable on an iPhone 3GS. It was clearly digitized from a VCR tape; in fact near the beginning, the picture briefly flashed to a blue screen that said, "Play" and then back. The video was terrible and the volume bounced up and down for most of the movie. If there's subtlety in there somewhere, you're going to need a microscope to find it.

PRODUCTION VALUES: Another user review estimated its production cost at about $500.Surely an understatement made for effect, but don't expect much.

ACTING: A few "not so miserable" performances, especially the chef and his interactions with the menu author. Weird, but about the only high points.

PLOT: Slackers, malcontents and weirdos work at a Mexican restaurant in MN and their manager and chef run away leaving the inmates briefly in charge until a conclusion that more or less says, "okay, it's over!"

HOW TO USE: Late night, I got nothing better to do and can't sleep, curiosity only.

Sweet deal!
antserafin25 November 2005
If you are a Mitch Hedberg fan then this movie is definitely for you! This movie is hard to find, in fact I had a VHS copy sent to me by Mitch Hedbergs manager or someone I had gotten in contact with on his website, but then I lost it and I am now in search of another copy of it.

The movie has its slow parts and the plot is a bit shaky but the jokes and one liners and random crap going on in the movie is just hilarious. I can count two scenes I remember when all the characters break out into dancing for no apparent reason at all, and the dancing they are doing is horrible, yes, horrible, and you will just find yourself laughing for reasons beyond your comprehension. But you have to watch the movie to know what I mean. There are a couple jokes from Mitch's stand up routine in here also. I wish Dave Attel's character stayed in the movie longer, regardless every scene he is in is hilarious. Also Todd Barry, a lesser known comedian, is in this too. He plays a hotel manager at the Hotel where Hedberg's character Lee is staying. The scene between Hedberg and Barry when Mitch is leaving for work the first morning is one of my favorite, "How come the breakfast buffet ain't got no OJ man?" "Awe I take that s*** for myself." Watch this movie, and if you are not satisfied watch it again, trust me. Its like hearing the new song from a band you love and not liking it the first time you hear it but then hearing it again and again and then falling in love with it.

low production value, high dysfunction value
reckery13 January 2023
I really believe Mr. Hedberg's heart is on his sleeve in this movie. Nice jabs against capitalism - interesting characters - decent storyline. It was hard to hear some of the dialogue due to the low-quality audio; but I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Mitch Hedberg (I wrote out his name due to the minimum character limit imposed by this site) produced this with his own money (which is pretty obvious - don't be looking for high-production value here - in ways similar to Fast Times at Ridgemont High). I saw an interview of Mitch Hedberg and you could see that the film meant a lot to him and he was proud of the script. Dude is legend - wish he had others onboard with him - the same script could have been more polished and subsequently more appreciated.

brilliant
domzig-0366515 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who has ever held down a mediocre food service job will be able to see the brilliance in this movie. Who hasnt day dreamed of your manager and chef bailing and leaving you to run the kitchen. I watched this movie in unpolished form on youtube, i had no problem with the cinematography it was a typical low budget 90s production and in fact it adds to the charm. Dave Attell is perfect in the roll of the typical power tripping boss and the supporting cast are all likeable. Its not just a movie of mitch's stand up so if thats what you want this isnt for you. This movie seems to have some deeper meaning behind it although its hard to tell because it also has to be funny and edgy on top of it. I think mitch wanted to tell us all that life can be a rewarding ride if you tale chances and follow your heart wherever it may lead you.
