An absolute masterpiece
ppop-146434 January 2020
An absolute masterpiece. With an extremely anti-war message. You should always go back to this great movie. Zarko Lausevic, Bojana Maljevic, Petar Bozovic and of course Aleksandar Bercek have played exceptionally good roles. But the other actors are great too. A good ending that has nothing to do with the novel. Bravo for everyone.

Faith brings you closer to God, religion is a highway to Hell
Bored_Dragon2 November 2019
I get creeps every time I hear a split on Serbs and Muslims. Being a Serb is a national affiliation, being a Muslim is a religious affiliation. It's as if we divided cars into German and sports, or movies into comedies and black and white. The tragedy of this area is ironic and I do not know what these people have sinned so much to deserve such karma. Demos divided into three religions, imbued and poisoned with religious hatred, brainwashed to slaughter each other again and again. It would be funny to me if I didn't belong to that folk. As if we have fallen out of some morbid joke. If we neglect the production and flaws of the domestic film that we learned to ignore, we are left with a story that perfectly and painfully portrays all the irony and all the meaninglessness of the Balkan wars. For most of the movie I felt disgust and shame, and in the scene where Halil crossed on his knees over the ruins of the church, I've shed a tear. I think it's one of the most powerful scenes in domestic cinematography. Draskovic wrote this novel in 1982, and with all my heart I would like to believe that the bullcrap of the 1990s would not happen if everyone had read it then. But I don't.

watched this film for several times!
riba-lav7 August 2007
I agree with the previous comment from Sweden. The film is really great. It is based on the book, whose writer is Vuk Draskovic It is worth seeing, for the Serbian, and also other people from SFR Yugoslavia. It reveals some important things. You cannot stay indifferent after watching this movie. It has historical, love and thriller elements. On the Festival in Moscow, some said that this movie should have been filmed much earlier. Zarko Lausevic is really, really excellent!Aleksandar Bercek, Bojana Maljevic also, and others. For the end i want to say hello... to the great actor, the leading role in this film, wherever he is!! If you liked this movie, you should watch some other films from M. Lekic, with Zarko Lausevic: like - Better than escape, It happened on this day

True masterpiece of Serbian cinema.
pero-bl2 September 2015
A true masterpiece of Serbian cinema explaining to the core a 600 year old feud between Serbian Muslims and Serbian Orthodox Christians, and also a great story written by Vuk Draskovic that doesn't fail to entertain anyone and leaves no one without a comment and strong reaction.

The story is true, realistic, painful, historically accurate and backed by strong historical facts.

Zarko Lausevic provided a extraordinary performance. Vojin Cetkovic, Petar Bozovic, Bojana Maljevic also provided quality performances. Miroslav Lekic proves once again he is a director that deserves respect.

I recommend this movie to everyone.

Without question a great movie.

One of the most powerful films ever made.

The story is very true, realistic, convincing, complex and painful.

There is very little things to say about it.

This is one of the movies after which you can't stop thinking about the story for a very long time.

Along with another masterpieces "Pretty Village, Pretty Flame", "The Trap", "The Wounds", "Hadersfild".....

Hopefully everyone will have the chance to see "NOZ",

because its not just a film, its a HISTORY of a nation.

I recommend it to anyone who likes a good film.

But don't expect anything in "American" style on this one.

More than movie
nenadpg26 September 2000
I must say that this is the first real movie about WWII about what really happened in our country. The first movie not about hate but about truth. Showing who are who and that we are all one nation. The movie about forgiveness. But read the book with the same title by Vuk Draskovic and you will...

One of the best movies. Top production, best cast, outstanding story against the war. Zarko and Bojana are the best couple ever. I'm sorry that many actors are no longer with us. Great roles have played here.

Its much more than a movie
JanetSnakehole39 December 2002
This movie left me breathless. I will never forget this movie as long as i live. Actors were brilliant. I dont have words to describe it. Dont watch it unless you dont know Yugoslavian history or else you wont be able to understand this movie. There is truth behind it that needs to be discovered.

Interesting story in that the previous reviewer deems everything propaganda
plemenit20082 February 2012
The story in this film really depicts the main reason and cause of the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. The movie may have it's roots in depicting historic issues between ethnic and religious conflict as "one sided" but it also has historic basis and fact that can be researched and validated. To call it Serbian propaganda is utter rubbish and based on little fact other than media bias that is used by the previous reviewer to his own end. The author of the book (Vuk Draskovic) made a valiant attempt to deal with a very sensitive subject that deals with hatred perpetuated for past wrongs that have never been fully exposed or repatriated. The film tries to keep in tune to the book and its true focus and theme - hidden historic wrongs only come back as retaliations and future food for hatred and mistrust.

Utter Rubish
andrej_66624 October 2006
Am I the only one who thinks this movie is as awful as they get? The actors should hang their heads in shame...Bojana Maljevic and Vojin Cetkovic in particular... Milica was born in Sarajevo, why is she speaking with Belgrade accent. Ljubo is Montenegrian,so why is he speaking with (?-whatever that accent is) Nobody in this movie mastered even the rudimentary points of pronunciation let alone any form of acting. Well,Petar Bozovic wasn't that bad....that's about it. What's the story with the ending? Did anyone involved in this movie even read the book NOZ? If you are interested in Draskovic and his views on ex-Yugoslavia conflicts read his books, don't watch this movie.

South Slav geopolitical fight film.
petarmatic20 November 2014
This film follows almost 100 years of geopolitical fight in what used to be former Yugoslavia.

Since that country was created on December 1, 1918 geopolitical fight for territory and power started and it is still present today.

This film follows that pattern and it is based on a novel by Vuk Draskovic, Serb novelist and politician.

I am not very fond of this film, simply because we who live on the territory of what used to be Yugoslavia are mostly sick and tired of that geopolitical religious crap. So I will just throw this film into the waste bin and try to forget all about it.

If you are interested in the former Yugoslavia this is a film for you, otherwise skip it.
