When you think of classic MGM fare, if you're like me, you think of the musicals. If you think of the musicals, you think of Judy Garland and Gene Kelly and Vincente Minnelli. Maybe Arthur Freed for producing and writing songs, Robert Alton for shooting those amazing sequences.... Charles Walters for choreography and... and...
But what about the people who actually made the music? Did they just come in, do their work, collect their paychecks and go home? Didn't they ever think about their parts in creating what turned out to be art and wish for their moment in the MGM roster, where, the boast went, there were more stars than there were in heaven? Here they are. And Tschaikovsky too.
