Christopher Guest film reportory members Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara will star in the first scripted series from Pop (currently Tvgn and fka TV Guide Network), and it’s got a titter-worthy title.
Premiering with the Pop rebranding in 2015, the half-hour comedy Schitt’s Creek follows filthy rich Johnny Rose (played by Levy), his soap opera diva wife Moira (O’Hara) and their two kids (played by Annie Murphy and Levy’s real-life son Daniel) as they suddenly find themselves broke and forced to relocate to the sad, titular town, which Johnny years ago bought for his son as a gag.

Let’s all take a minute to applaud Awkward‘s midseason premiere — which, in my mind, could have been titled “Damage Control” — for essentially wiping the slate clean, doing away with so much of what alienated longtime fans in the first half of Season 4. And by “so much,” I mean Eva.

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Doctor Who, Finding Carter, The Mindy Project and The Mysteries of Laura!
1 | Couldn’t Bill Maher have gotten literally anyone else to introduce his Live From D.C. stand-up special, instead of subjecting us to Keith Olbermann and Michael Moore’s clunky commentary?
2 | On a scale of 1-to-“Blink,” was Doctor Who‘s “Listen” episode the sci-fi series’ best installment in years?

Before him though, next year we get a version played by "American Horror Story" star Evan Peters in Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past". Every year, we here at Sound On Sight celebrate the month of October with 31 Days of Horror; and every year, I update the list of my favourite horror films ever made. Last year, I released a list that included 150 picks. This year, I’ll be upgrading the list, making minor alterations, changing the rankings, adding new entries, and possibly removing a few titles. I’ve also decided to publish each post backwards this time for one reason: the new additions appear lower on my list, whereas my top 50 haven’t changed much, except for maybe in ranking. I am including documentaries, short films and mini series, only as special mentions – along with a few features that can qualify as horror, but barely do.

Alan Carr has said that his plans to write and star in a sitcom are on hold.

Asked what the idea was, he added: "It's about dogs, it was about me as a dog walker. I really like the idea and I was sitting and writing, and then I went, 'Oh no, s**t!'"

Andrew reviews the terrific new Doctor Who: Regeneration DVD compendium, featuring previously unreleased story, The Tenth Planet...
There's something inherently odd about the concept of a Doctor Who coffee-table-style DVD compendium, as if those people who wear hats indoors have been identified as an untapped market ready and willing to critically examine Time and the Rani as a Kierkegaardian polemic. Still, it's a nice shiny binder, and it's got The Tenth Planet in it.
Previously unreleased on DVD, The Tenth Planet is presented here with the other regeneration stories (though no extras), and episode four is entirely animated to complete one of the more important stories in the show's history. The animation is easy to accept, blending in well with the existing footage and providing us with some striking images of the Cybermen (here in their Spare Parts, hulking relic stage of development...

It seems somewhat fitting that one of the hottest days this year marks the release of All Stars – an inherently uplifting production about two kids who form a dancing troupe with the aim of winning a talent contest, and saving their local youth centre, and we were fortunate enough to sit down with the film’s director Ben Gregor to discuss his very first feature film…
How did you first come to be involved in All Stars?
I had a background in comedy and I did a show called Midnight Beast, and they just thought “that nutter did all those music videos and dialogue, he could do this”. So I was talking to them and they had this really solid script that was really well written, but I wanted to make it more quirky and heartfelt, and re-set it inside kids imaginations. With the release of X-Men: First Class, we have now been treated to five movies to date in the X-universe, and across those films we have already been introduced to numerous characters – both main, supporting and fleeting cameos. In the shape of figures like Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm and Beast, we’ve covered the majority of the major players (including the six original members), so the question we now face is one of future casts…
Who remains from the X-Men roll-call who hasn’t yet put in an appearance in the five films so far, and more importantly, which of them would be a good pick for the next movie… regardless of what timeline it comes from.
To start with, there are those who probably won’t appear, including Vulcan, the third Summers brother (the one with the Jason Bourne style amnesia backstory), Sunfire (the radioactive loner… although X-Men: First Class...

Matthew Vaughn Interview – 22 May 2011 – The Dorchester Hotel, London
Part 3 (of 3… Part 1 and Part 2) of the roundtable interview Owf took part in with X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn. The following is the last 12 minutes of our interview where Vaughn spills on the James Bond influence on his film, misogynism in the 60′s, which Oscar winning Brit actor he considered to play Sebastian Shaw before choosing Kevin Bacon, how Take That ended up providing the end credits track and a little word on what he might make next.
Q: Xavier’s quite arrogant at the start of the film at university..
Mv: Yeah, cocky…
Q: …and it’s the relationship with Erik that does start to mellow him.
Mv: Yeah, and I also think when he realises there are other mutants out there, and because of Shaw, realising that the worst that can happen is mutants getting a bad press, being hated,...

HeyUGuys recently joined several other film news sites at a round table interview with X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn.
The interview lasted over 45 minutes, and because it was only for sites that write about film (unlike other round tables where we share with all sorts of outlets), it’s pretty much concentrated on things that should interest you. It certainly fascinates us.
This second section of the interview (2 of 3 that will be published) is about the production process. It also features a few spoilers and some swearing. We’ve put an advisory notice before and after the spoilers.
To read the first section of the interview, which concentrates on Writing and Character, please click here and check back later for the final part of the interview, which...

In-depth interview with Matthew Vaughn – X-Men: First Class Director
by Kate Atherton
Matthew Vaughn has flu. With the tightest of post-production schedules, completing X-Men: First Class came so close to the wire that its director Vaughn only saw the finished product about three days before I did. It sounds as if they were trying to finish off Magneto’s Theme on the piano just five minutes before that. But now X-Men: First Class is about to be released on an expectant and demanding audience – and to rave reviews. The relief has made Matthew Vaughn ill.
I was fortunate to be included amongst a group of bloggers who were able to spend some time chatting with the very buggy director at the weekend in the comfortable setting of the Dorchester bar. Despite our assurances that, rather unusually, we were unanimous in our enjoyment of X-Men: First Class, Vaughn was clearly nervous...

Gene Sperling is White House point man for what may be the most delicate negotiations of the Obama presidency. Lloyd Grove reports on the latest turns in the debt-ceiling drama.
Gene Sperling-a key White House player in the bipartisan negotiations to raise the federal debt ceiling-is a devotee of the iron fist/velvet glove school of politics.
As President Obama's top economic adviser, he had a hand in the recent presidential speech that trashed House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's deficit reduction plan as a savage attack on old folks, college students, disabled kids and sick people, as well as an obscene gift to millionaires and billionaires.
Sperling loved that speech.
Ryan, not so much. An invited guest who sat in the front row at George Washington University during the speech, the congressman was at first surprised, then angry as he listened to Obama demonizing him and...

Bp oil rig engineer Blair Manuel was not even supposed to be working when he and 10 co-workers were killed in the Gulf of Mexico explosion a year ago. His daughter tells Rick Outzen the anniversary is about honoring her father, not lawsuits or pointing fingers.
What haunts the family of Blair Manuel is that he wasn't supposed to be on the Deepwater Horizon rig when it exploded the night of April 20, 2010. He was due to be off the weekend before the accident, but something happened with his replacement and he agreed to stay through the 20th.

Buzz Bissinger received a torrent of abuse for saying the NBA's popularity is declining without white superstars. Now comes Jimmer Fredette, who's dominating March Madness chatter not because he's the best-but because he's white.
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a column about the specter of race in the National Basketball Association. I said the league's popularity was being affected because some white fans were turned off to a game in which there was not a single white American superstar.

It was not pretty. Most of the cuts have healed except for the one on my elbow.
I fervently believe what I wrote. There was supporting evidence I should have put in but did not because a column is an opinion and space isn't unlimited at The Daily Beast. I have since discovered more compelling evidence.

Before Libyans rose up against him, Muammar Gaddafi used money, and well-timed diplomatic overtures, to worm his way into the West's good graces. In this week's Newsweek, Christopher Dickey looks at how Bush, Blair, and Berlusconi gave the brutal dictator a makeover.
The tale is a sordid one, but let's at least begin in relatively pleasant surroundings, among the leather armchairs of the Travellers Club in London. Its rooms have been a favorite rendezvous since the 19th century for gentlemen of international intrigue-and it's where Libya's urbane, white-haired spymaster, Musa Kusa, met with representatives of the British and American intelligence services in December 2003. Their purpose was to hammer out a deal to bring Kusa's boss, Muammar Gaddafi, in from the cold.

Ever since forming in Suffolk in 1991, Dani Filth's Cradle of Filth have been one of England’s highest profile extreme metal bands. Over the years their musical style has evolved from a classic black metal sound to a cleaner, more "produced" mixture of Gothic metal, symphonic black metal and other extreme metal styles. Thematically the band’s imagery has pretty much remained the same: one that is heavily influenced by Gothic literature, poetry, mythology, sex and horror films.

When it happens with a romcom or something light and cheerful, it is a series of coincidences, but what can we call such a succession of avatars when it comes to a movie dealing with the Beast, the Horned One, the good old Satan? Is it retribution? Or the wrath of an angry God at how good this movie is?
