With very few exceptions there is no smoke produced when firearms are used and no character is seen putting percussion caps on his (anachronistic) caplock pistols. Probably most shots are fired without a charge and a sound effect added later.
Everyone in this film uses caplock pistols. The film is set in 1833. At this time even the imperial Russian army had just begun to introduce them and it took until after the Crimean War more than 2 decades later for them to be universally used by the armed forces. In a backwater like Moldavia both army and rebels/bandits would still be using flintlock pistols and muskets with only a few officers potentially being in possession of the more modern caplock arms.
Also many of the depicted caplock pistols are of a far more modern design than would fit the era.
