“Succession” star Kieran Culkin is poised to make the journey from the Emmys to the Oscars thanks to his role in the red-hot film, “A Real Pain.” From Searchlight Pictures, “A Real Pain” is written and directed by actor Jesse Eisenberg, who made his debut as writer-director in 2022 with the acclaimed “When You Finish Saving The World.” This one follows Eisenberg and Culkin as a pair of mismatched cousins who tour through Poland in an attempt to honor their grandmother. Their journey is threatened to be derailed, however, when old tensions and family history, rear their head once more.
The trailer for the film promises a smart, witty comedy-drama that seems perfect for the quick-fire delivery styles of both Eisenberg and Culkin. Culkin, in particular, could really shine here in his role as Benji Kaplan. In fact, we are so excited about this film that Culkin is currently in our...

Halle Berry and Glenn Close are set to star alongside Kim Kardashian in an upcoming Hulu legal drama that hails from Ryan Murphy, Variety has learned.
The series was first announced in December 2023 and is currently titled “All’s Fair.” As reported at that time, Kardashian will play a successful divorce lawyer who leads an all-female law firm in Los Angeles. Shonda Rhimes is worried about the future of television.
In an interview with Variety, the powerful writer-producer expressed concern about the “uncertain” nature of TV writing as a career going forward, as Hollywood contracts, studios avoid taking risks, and attention spans shrink.
“It’s a completely different landscape, a completely different landscape,” the “Bridgerton” executive producer said. “And I feel like when I look forward, I have no idea. It’s very clear to me that my children only want to watch things that are this long because of YouTube or whatever. [She measures an inch with her fingers.] Sitting down and watching a movie is very rare for them. It’s not the same as it was for us. Everything’s changing. I think there will always be storytelling; I just don’t know what form it’s going to take.”

Although most past recipients of the Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress SAG Award triumphed after being Emmy-nominated for the same performances, a few – including three of the last five – competed for the two prizes in the opposite order. That subgroup’s newest member is “George & Tammy” star Jessica Chastain, who is presently awaiting the result of her Emmy bid for the biographical series. As it happens, the list of performers aiming to supplant her as said SAG Award category’s reigning champion mainly consists of women who were eligible for the 75th Emmys (taking place in January 2024), but that does not apply to Brie Larson (“Lessons in Chemistry”), who could end up benefiting from her unique ability to emulate Chastain’s rare achievement.

In the 54 years since Diahann Carroll (“Julia”) blazed a trail as the first Black female recipient of a TV Golden Globe, the list of small screen Black actresses who have won the favor of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has grown to include 12 more names, including 2023 comedic and dramatic champs Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”) and Zendaya (“Euphoria”). While this roster has long since covered TV movies and both continuing program genres, no Black woman has yet been awarded a Golden Globe for a limited series performance. There is a decent chance of that soon changing, however, given the winning potential of possible 2024 Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress contenders Uzo Aduba (“Painkiller”) and Dominique Fishback (“Swarm”).
Possible Golden Globes newcomer Fishback stars on Amazon Prime Video’s “Swarm” as Dre Greene, a mentally unstable young woman whose unhealthy obsession with a Beyoncé-esque pop star drives a wedge between her and her foster sister,...

Within the past four years alone, the success rate for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress Emmy nominees who have entered their ceremonies with same-year SAG Award wins under their belts has dropped from 100% to 60%. After being followed by Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Queen’s Gambit”) in 2021, win-lose trendsetter Patricia Arquette might soon be joined by 2023 SAG Award recipient Jessica Chastain (“George & Tammy”), whose Gold Derby Emmy odds are significantly lower than those of her strongest challenger, Ali Wong (“Beef”).
Chastain and Wong represent half of their Emmy lineup’s first-time acting nominee majority, which also includes Dominique Fishback (“Swarm”) and Riley Keough (“Daisy Jones & the Six”). Rounding out the group, which features no former Emmy champions, are category newcomers Lizzy Caplan (“Fleishman is in Trouble”) and Kathryn Hahn (“Tiny Beautiful Things”).
In order to determine the likelihood of Chastain perpetuating said unfortunate trend, let’s take a closer look at each nominee.

Hot off her 2022 Best Film Actress SAG Award victory for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” Jessica Chastain is now in the running for the organization’s Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress prize as the star of Showtime’s “George and Tammy.” This would be her third SAG Award win in as many categories, as she achieved her first one as an ensemble member of the 2011 film “The Help.” It would also make her only the fourth person to ever pull off back-to-back solo SAG Award wins for two different performances.
The special consecutive champions club Chastain is looking to join was formed in 2000 by Angelina Jolie, who was honored that year for her supporting turn in the film “Girl, Interrupted” immediately after her TV movie performance in “Gia” was lauded by the acting guild. She has since been followed by Renée Zellweger and Viola Davis.

After Cicely Tyson’s performance in the two-part CBS drama “Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All” earned her a spot in the very first Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress SAG Award lineup, it took 26 years for another Black woman to be recognized by the organization for an actual miniseries. The subset started by Tyson in 1995 now includes five actresses, with the latest entrant being “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” cast member Niecy Nash-Betts. If she takes this year’s prize, Nash-Betts will be the fifth Black woman to ever prevail in this category and the first to be honored for a multi-part limited program.
Besides Tyson and Nash-Betts, the remaining three Black actresses who have been nominated by the Screen Actors Guild for their work on miniseries are Michaela Coel, Kerry Washington, and Cynthia Erivo. After nearly two decades of having her individual performances overlooked by Screen Actors Guild Awards voters, Amanda Seyfried has finally earned solo recognition from the organization thanks to her work on Hulu’s “The Dropout.” Her Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress bid for the show comes 10 years after her only other SAG Awards outing as a “Les Misérables” film ensemble member. Given that she has already collected an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award this season, she stands a strong chance of becoming the sixth female star of a non-continuing program to complete a modern industry awards sweep.
“The Dropout,” which is adapted from Rebecca Jarvis’ six-part podcast of the same name, tells the true story of how former chemical engineering student Elizabeth Holmes (played by Seyfried) fraudulently collected millions of dollars to fund her health technology company, Theranos. Robert De Niro took a moment to slam what he sees as pervasive political falsehood as he accepted the Cinéma Verité Award at CinemaCon’s closing event.
“Cinema audiences are returning to your theaters in droves. I wish verité was having a renaissance to. But this is a tough time. We have big untruths, like Ukraine doesn’t exist except as part of Russia, or Trump won the 2020 elections,” he said, taking a swipe at U.S. House Minority Leader for backtracking on recorded comments. “I heard you, Kevin McCarthy. You said it.”
The Big Screen Achievement awards closed out the annual confab, which celebrated the return of movies and moviegoers after a Covid drought and previewed what’s coming.
“I’m not sure we need movie theaters any more,” said De Niro to hoots and laughter from cinema executives. “I mean, who needs big screens? I’m just f*cking with you.

Berry then touched on the power of storytelling, adding, "It can raise our consciousness and help us think outside of ourselves and our individual circumstance. I realize we truly need to see each other's realities no matter how uncomfortable it makes us, so that we might stop judging and stop pointing fingers but rather find compassion and empathy for the others."
She concluded, "This is why I'm so grateful to be standing and living in this moment, where women are standing up and we are telling our own stories . . . we won't always be pretty, and we will never be perfect, but what we will be is always honest and true, no matter how uncomfortable that makes you.

Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” has been named the best film of 2021 at the Ee British Academy Film Awards, which were presented on Sunday in London by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
Campion’s Western drama has been a favorite all awards season, and it is the one major film not to have a significant stumble on the road to the Academy Awards, which will take place in two weeks. Although questions remain about its vulnerability under the Academy’s preferential system of vote counting, the BAFTA win is a strong indicator that it remains the film to beat, even if BAFTA and Oscar voters have only agreed once in the past eight years.

In time-honored tradition, they see each other as competitors and spend all their time sparring until they finally realize how much they have in common. They are inseparable for years, until Robert leaves to study opera in Italy, and Rachel is pushed,...

Over the first 28 years of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, 13 pairs or trios have received nominations for the same TV movie or limited series. The ones who set this precedent were “A Cooler Climate” costars Judy Davis and Sally Field, who both vied for the 2000 Best TV Movie/Mini Actress prize against eventual winner Halle Berry (“Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”).
Since then, only four of the actresses placed in these situations have pulled off victories, leaving current contenders Jean Smart and Kate Winslet (“Mare of Easttown”) with just a 33% chance of doing so. Smart and Winslet’s challengers are Jennifer Coolidge (“The White Lotus”), Cynthia Erivo (“Genius: Aretha”), and Margaret Qualley (“Maid”).
Judging by this category’s past eight instances of double or triple losses, it is most beneficial for someone nominated here against a set of costars to be younger than at least one of them. This has applied in...

Is it even Mipcom if The Grand is closed and a legion of bamboo planters is blocking off access to a vacant Grand Palais basement? As the global TV market convened in Cannes after two pandemic-stricken years, it was initially hard to say. But despite an understated affair with fewer U.S. delegates and hardly any presence from Asia, Australia and Latin America those who did attend got valuable face-time with key business contacts and a renewed sense of an industry quietly coming back to life.
Here are the 10 top talking points from Cannes:
Squid Game on Top
Few dared to travel to Mipcom without having seen at least a couple of episodes of Netflix’s smash hit from Korea, “Squid Game.” The show was name-dropped in virtually all content sessions, with breathless executives applauding its imagination and investment from the SVOD. Last month’s teaser trailer for Pablo Larraín‘s “Spencer,” starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, left everyone wanting more, and now we’ve got more. The full-length trailer for the drama dropped Thursday, giving a longer look at Stewart’s transformation into the beloved, doomed royal.
For one, we can finally hear more of Stewart absolutely nailing Lady Di’s distinctive voice, which was teased at the end of the first trailer. The two-minute clip showcases the plot of the film, which covers three days: Diana arriving at Sandringham for Christmas in the early 1990s as her marriage to Prince Charles (Jack Farthing) continues to deteriorate and paparazzi hound the royal family.
It also ends with one helluva line as Diana asks, “Will they kill me, do you think?” Oh, yes, they went there.

Keshet 12 has ordered a second season of baking competition show “The Perfect Dessert” following its successful debut earlier this summer.
The premiere season premiered on June 16 and scored the network’s highest ratings for a baking show with an average rating of 17.7% and 28.1% share.
“The Perfect Dessert,” which was originally developed and produced by July August Productions with Keshet Broadcasting, increased the slot average by 11%, compared with previous three months. The 10 episodes of the first season beat the ratings of “UEFA Euro 2020,” “Celebrity Power Couple” and “Game of Chefs.”
“In ‘The Perfect Dessert,’ looks are everything. Here judges vote with their eyes first – so only dishes with the combined ‘wow factor’ of looks and taste make it through to the next round, and ultimately, the finale,” said Ilanit St Hirsch, Keshet 12’s head of programs and acquisitions.

The main attraction in this tale of a young woman trying to understand her dysfunctional and pathological liar of a father is the pairing of director and star Sean Penn with his daughter Dylan (who has received a Rising Star award at the Deauville Film Festival).
Based on the real-life recollections of journalist Jennifer Vogel surrounding her conman dad (revealed in her 2004 book Film-Flam Man) it has the kind of appeal associated with scam artists.
Dylan takes the role of Jennifer who, during a disrupted childhood with her younger brother, gradually gets the measure of her father. It’s a performance of some insight and persuasion. Her father Sean, who plays the patriarch with big ideas most of which never come to fruition, has a certain charm invested in the character - and there is a complicity in the playing between the two of them.
The two children are forced to live.

When Halle Berry won the 2002 Best Actress Oscar for “Monster’s Ball” and made history as the first Black recipient of the award, she dedicated it to several actresses of color who came before her. Appropriately, she began by mentioning Dorothy Dandridge, whose nomination for “Carmen Jones” in 1955 made her the first Black woman to compete for the lead prize. Although Dandridge’s life ended before Berry’s began, the two performers have always shared a special connection. Indeed, less than two years before she won her Oscar, Berry took home an Emmy for stepping into Dandridge’s shoes in the TV movie “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.”
The HBO movie was nominated for a total of nine Primetime Emmys and scored four craft awards in addition to Berry’s Best Movie/Limited Actress win. Having triumphed at 34, the actress currently ranks as the 10th youngest champion in her category after initially placing one spot higher.

Korean director Hong Eui-jeong’s debut feature “Voice of Silence” stood out at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival as the year’s best film from its Cheval Noir main competition section. The film, about two men who clean up after an organized crime organization, has enjoyed an impressive international festival run, having built up strong buzz as a project when it was selected to Venice’s Biennale College Cinema program in 2016.
“In a film festival that’s known as a melting pot of genres, ‘Voice of Silence’ feels like an excellent representative for the top prize in the Cheval Noir section. It’s earnest and sincere in tone but also unpredictable and experimental, impossible to pin down, and truly idiosyncratic,” said the jury in a statement accompanying the announcement.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the fifth season finale of “This Is Us.”
The Season 5 finale of This Is Us, like so many other major episodes, ended with a surprise twist. It shouldn’t have been too surprising for longtime viewers of the NBC drama, though, that the episode that was supposed to focus on Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Madison (Caitlin Thompson), the mother of his twin babies, tying the knot didn’t actually end with the duo walking down the aisle.
Instead, it was a different Pearson sibling getting married. The opening scene of Kevin rehearsing wedding jokes in formal wear turned out not to be from his own wedding in present-day, but rather five years in the future at his twin sister Kate’s (Chrissy Metz) second wedding — to her boss, Phillip (Chris Geere).

I’m an Israeli father of two young boys here in Tel Aviv. I love them to bits. I know that across the border in Gaza there’s a Palestinian father with kids who feels the same way about his. I know we both want to protect them more than anything. Like me, I’m sure he tells them this awful conflict will be over one day, with today’s ceasefire being a welcome first step in that direction.

We view it as a hijacking of the Palestinians who most of us here see as innocent victims of a terror group. A people with whom, we personally have nothing against and would love to leave with in peace, were it not for Hamas.

It had the same host and was held in the same venue, but the 2021 Brit Awards bore no resemblance to any other version of the U.K.’s biggest music awards.

Welcome to this weeks review of Aew Dark: Elevation, the seventh episode of a show that has, honestly, varied wildy in quality… and length. Let’s see shat this weeks episode has to offer!
Match #1: Ray Fenix def. Chuck Taylor
My Thoughts: Ray Fenix is bloody good isn’t he? Somehow he seems to pull out new moves almost each and every week. Here it was a nasty leg/rope tie up on Chuck Taylor that looked really aggressive – as was a lot of this match. This was very much mat and submission wrestling rather than high-flying crazy stuff, yet with just enough flair to make this a “Ray Fenix” match. Gotta love the recent addition of Alex Abrahantes on the mic for Penta and Fenix too!
My Score: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2: Ryan Nemeth def. Ryzin
My Thoughts: Fresh of his engorged member escapades on Being the Elite,...

The main 2021 Bafta ceremony took place online on April 11; but that didn’t prevent various winners from taking centre stage with their speeches.
The British national character emerged as a recurrent theme, with Thomas Vinterberg, winner of best film not in the English language, joking, “I did have a small suspicion that you Brits might like a film about drinking.”
There was further amusement from Minari’s best supporting actress Yuh-jung Youn, who was grateful to be “especially recognised by British people, known as very snobbish people; and they approve me as a good actress...

Kingsley Ben-Adir didn’t get enough traction during the awards season to get Oscar or BAFTA nominations for Best Actor for his role as Malcolm X in “One Night in Miami,” but he did make the BAFTA lineup for the Rising Star Award, which is a breakthrough prize for up-and-coming actors. Unlike other BAFTA categories, which are decided by the British academy, the Rising Star champ is voted on by the general public. And according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users, Ben-Adir will prevail.
Because this award is decided by the general public, the winners tend to be the highest-profile stars in the category, like Tom Hardy the year he broke out in “Inception” (2010), John Boyega right after “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015), Tom Holland after debuting as Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), and Daniel Kaluuya in the wake of “Get Out” (2017). The award also strongly favors British actors,...

Growing up in the ’90s, my friends and I always dreamed of becoming movie stars. Was it because we were raised with “Sister Sister” on our TVs and “Lizzie McGuire” posters on our walls? I can’t help but think that seeing actresses on the Disney Channel, who looked and acted like me and my friends, made us feel like we could have TV shows of our own one day too.
But what happens when you don’t see yourself represented in an industry or career — like Hollywood stunts? In 2017, a study released by film researcher Stephen Follows revealed out of 7,303 movies released between 2000-2016, women made up less than 15% of stunt professionals. That percentage is even smaller when race is factored in. Did my friends and I never talk about becoming stuntwomen because we didn’t think we could?
Luckily, renowned stuntwoman La Faye Baker is here to kick down some major glass ceilings…...
