Annette of my childhood

I grew up watching different Japanese anime series from the Iranian television (all dubbed in Persian), and for me this one is the most memorable of all. I remember that I first watched it in 1987 when I was just about 4 years old…

Although I have not read the original novel on which this anime series is based, I am sure it captures every emotion the novel has intended, from Annette's anger toward Lucien to her later feelings of missing him. The main point here is the childish romance between Annette and her friend Lucien. They are close friends until Annette's little brother "Danny" is damaged and almost paralyzed due to Lucien's almost unintentional mistake (at first there was an invisible rivalry between Lucien and Danny). After that accident, Annette does not speak with Lucien again and that makes Lucien really sad…

Apart from his feelings of guilt about what he has done to Danny, the fact that he is now rejected by Annette is intolerable for Lucien and he tries to repair their friendship again, but Annette is a strong-willed and stubborn girl who just can't forgive and forget so easily… (I remember as a child my heart broke watching Lucien so upset after his wooden horse was deliberately destroyed by Annette)…

In short, I can say that just as the characters did, I also experienced different feelings of happiness, hatred, hope and despair my way through this unforgettable series…

Another good point of this series was that the mountain village in which the story takes place was depicted so beautifully as I can never forget the beauty of snow covered Alps and also the snowy nights in it.

But above all, what makes this anime so special for me is that in my childhood days I saw similarity between Annette and myself. At first, she was the only child (as I was) and then she had a baby brother (and I did too). And what was interesting was that almost around the time Danny was born, my brother was born too! and Danny was an extremely beautiful and charming little thing, just like my own brother (actually the only difference was that Danny grew up much faster than my brother did!) …As a child, I wanted to be like Annette (that was before she broke the wooden horse of course!) and I remember that watching her cook for the family, made me want to do the same, though no one would allow me to do the cooking!
