Live by the rule that sad is bad and happy is COOL!
I know it's only natural for someone to say that modern shows aren't as good as the shows he/she grew up with. It's the nostalgia factor that keeps our childhood shows sacred in our hearts. But nostalgia aside, Lamb Chop's Play-Along was still awesome. Shari Lewis and her personality-packed puppet gang were head-and-shoulders above their contemporaries like Mr. Rogers and Barney, because they went places and did things that other shows never thought to.

While most other shows were (and still are) pounding things like spelling and counting into children's brains, Shari taught her viewers magic tricks, riddles, Mother Goose parodies, drawing, boredom-busters and more. Today, the average five-year-old is wiggling around with the Teletubbies. When I was five, I was making jumping origami rabbits out of business cards. Somebody really needs to put this show back on the air. It's hard to stomach the idea that a generation will grow up without Shari, Lamb Chop, Charlie Horse and Hush Puppy.

Oh, yeah, and they also taught kids how to annoy the heck out of their parents: "This is the song that doesn't end, yes it goes on and on my friend....." ;)

I grew up watching this show and i enjoyed it every day. i watched it on apt every day after school. lam chop was a great show and i learned so much watching the show. i wish i could find the show on DVD and watch all of them over and over again. i loved this show so much. i hated to see it go off the air but every great show must end some time. this show helped keep me out of trouble and enjoy my child hood more and more. i will never forget this show and the joy i got when i heard the lam chop theme song. when i heard it it made me happy. i am happy to say that i remember lam chop's frequent saying " sad is bad but happy is cool" or something like that. the show never stopped making me smile and send enjoyment in my day and it always brightened my day every second i watched it.

Fun Variety Show

I vaguely remembered loving this show as a young kid and sought out episodes on YouTube to see if they were worth adding to my kid's line-up. Surprisingly, this show holds up pretty well.

It's made up of corny kid jokes, magic trick segments, games, learning songs, dance numbers, and skits featuring the beloved puppets of Shari Lewis. The children in the show are diverse (but are mostly background actors).

Shari has unbelievable energy and clever lyrics. This is one of those shows that I would really enjoy watching along with my daughter. Not all the episodes are available on YouTube, and the available ones aren't always good quality. It's a shame they haven't kept this available through a DVD collection, especially because it has aged so well. Well worth checking out.
